Starting with Morrowind, Bethesda made a great looking sky. Was one of the best looking skys i'd seen in a game yet, and Oblivion's sky looked pretty good too. Its safe to say Skyrim will have many varying weathers, because its been a trend throughout they're games.
Morrowind had varying storms, sometimes it'd be a shower, others a thunderstorm, so various weather conditions within the actual systems are possible.

Skyrim is also focusing on the signs and constellations, so i'm sure we'll see an overhaul in the night sky.

Shivering Isles also improved on many gameplay and world features that Oblivion lacked. They remembered we all liked giant mushrooms, reminds us of the good old Morrowind days

Agreed :) Morrowind had the most impressive game sky even years after it's release.

I hope so too.

I'm hoping for very detailed skies. Volumetric clouds are in it seems.
Dynamic sky box would be kinda of a must too (it's really not that hard to implement, and it looks way better than the sky-feature in Oblivion/Morrowind/FO3).

The sky and water was just phenomenal in Morrowind. Hopefully the devs realize that there is more to a world than the heightmap the player drums his/her feet upon.

Shivering Isles also improved on many gameplay and world features that Oblivion lacked. They remembered we all liked giant mushrooms, reminds us of the good old Morrowind days

Not sure if that was their point or not in the design. I always read into the "Realm of Madness" and a copious amount of shroom...

Yes shivering isles sky was good indeed,as was morrowinds.
But oblivions was plain?...not to me it wasn't i thought i looked awesome, and still do.
Looking at the sun rise and fall in anvil an other places, was exellent.
In oblivion 90% of the time you could tell when it was going to rain.
The wind would pick up,and you would see darker clouds coming.....then rain....how's that plain?
Each to their own i quess.

Indeed. I really like Oblivion's sky. it was honestly one of my favorite graphical things in the game.

No, not all. I came from Daggerfall and expected to see at least some similarities, but all I got was weirdness :P That high fantasy style fits Shivering Isles better, but then again, I knew what it was, and just avoided it. Or in certain places in Oblivion, which I didn't mind because they made sense.

I would like to see actual dynamic weather patterns. I remember in Asheron's Call when storms would move across the map and it was so cool. Actually, that game had a vast streaming world way ahead of its time, even if the models already looked outdated for the standards of the second generation MMO's.

I can't find the thread again now, but I'm sure one of the magazine articles recently confirmed that there are fancy cloud/weather effects of some sort (I seem to remember it mentioning clouds gathering around mountain peaks, or something like that).

I have high hopes for Skyrim's skies, in any case; Morrowind's were beautiful, and Oblivion's were beautiful.

If it's as good as Oblivion, I'll be happy. I really enjoyed looking up in that game :)
But since this is 5 years after Ob, I expect it'll be even better. Graphics have improved, we've seen evidence of dynamic clouds, and the stars are bound to be given more attention with all the talk about constellations and perks, skills, etc.

I'm looking forward to finding a nice hill in Skyrim, lighting up my skooma pipe and lay back to enjoy the heavens :)

Looks good, but i still say oblivions was better.
There were different clouds going faster than others too in oblivion....if i remember right :).
No matter how many playthroughs i did in oblivion,i always looked at the sky,day or night, and from different places.
I would go and look for places just for the views :)
