The Skyrim Blog

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 5:19 pm

So I have 3 things I do in the morning when I go to work.

1) Check the Skyrim Blog(http://theskyrimblog.com/)

2) Check another skyrim blog(http://skyrim-cover.blogspot.com/) I like this one better in truth

3) Check the skyrim forums(aka. This kickbutt site)

I love my morning routine but site #1 is REALLY starting to get on my nerves, which is difficult.

In the case of the first site, it started pretty small with a humble web designer that was trying to attract an audience. Throughout the months his site got larger, and larger. Now his blogs average 50-60 comments which is
pretty darn good for a small site. However, the attitude of the site has turned..for the lack of a better word..haughty.

http://theskyrimblog.com/?p=2305 <--this is a link to his latest blog rant(it seems 1/3 of all new topics he posts are either "my site is doing so well!" or "stop pissing me off people"

I understand the points that are made but going about it in a totalitarian manner is a BAD idea when there are MANY other skyrim blogs (#2 being a better and funnier blog) to choose from, you might not want to treat your loyal
readers like garbage.

Stupid Idea.
Blog is so old and out of date.
Pete Hines/Forum.

Edit:
Don't all blog writers get like that?

There's no fault in the administrator's plea for folks to stay on target. Obviously, if they did not adhere to the guidelines he is free to delete comments that he thinks are off-topic or do not add to a particular study.

Besides, people who comment on a blog aren't really subject to 'free speech'.

Skimmed over the blogs on that site. The blog the OP linked to appears to be the only one that's specifically about the site.

Absolutely no fault, I agree.

An Example if you will: If the government wanted to stop street protests they could a) use the police force to usher/warn the crowds to disperse or B) use lethal force. both would achieve the same goal.

Yes I would prefer the site and all skyrim sites stay on topic, however the end does not justify the means. Ya it's your site so you can do with it what you want. His site has gotten a lot bigger than when it first started, so with
great power comes great responsibility. You cannot act in a childish manner and lash out because boo hoo you had to get up at 5 in the mornign to delete 50 posts. Guess what, that's what happens when you have a popular
site, deal with it appropriately. Don't act like a fuming child, get moderators(he has admitted that he needs help in this department)

No one is subject to free speech, this is about as good as it gets.

I don't really like that one. I usually just go to the forums and check out what good old Pete have to say about the game.

Indeed, there are 214 posts on the blog, and someone chooses to start a thread on the Official forums (for some reason) about the one that is about people posing masses of off-topic spam.

Oh well

OK, in truth I probably overreacted this morning when I posted that. I'll probably let the thread run for a while to let people have a say, then close it and/or make it invisible. But the point still stands, off topic spam IS annoying - whether it be blog, forum or web site. It's not that much to expect that people would try to stick to the topic at hand - as they do on this very forum.

Anyway thanks for looking ;)

I'd be more than happy for a Mod to close it

I only posted since it was about me - an accusation that I am 'on a power trip', which isn't even remotely true BTW.

If you have issues with a site you should contact the webmaster of that site instead of ranting on another site that has nothing to do with the site you're complaining about.
