The Skyrim Dead Is Dead Thread III

Why don't you guys just cut off the middle man and remove the 360 hard drive when playing or better yet every time your character dies you have to snap your disk in half and buy a new one.

^trolololol

So here is my character...I had a background before, but decided to go Orc (Orcs are so awesome)

Skyrim Journal
Character: Vendayn
Race/Class: Orc, Warlock
Short background: From his home of Orsinium, he was forced out due to events and travelled to Cyrodiil. Many of his brethren had travelled to Skyrim instead, but Vendayn wanted a more civilized life and more freedom to do…his necromantic magic. However, he had received a letter from an unnamed source, revealing to him that his destiny would be revealed in Skyrim. Normally, Vendayn would throw away such a letter, thinking it was a trap. Most thought him an idiot, simply because he was an Orc. Fools soon learned otherwise. But, inside was a tooth from his wife that he had thought had died during the invasion of his home. He had no choice but to take the little he had, and travel north, to Skyrim.

Difficulty: Expert

Day One: There I was, crossing the border when I was captured! The Empire took me prisoner along with these rebels called Stormcloaks. The Stormcloak leader was captured with us. The Empire thought me as part of the Stormcloaks, but the Stormcloaks had ME captured! They took us to Helgen, where they planned to execute us.

Well, out of legends and fate, a dragon appeared! Seconds before I was soon to have no head. The Stormcloaks managed to escape, along with Ulfric, during the confusion. I could have killed him! BAH! I have no love for Stormcloaks, but my mind was on the dragon and survival. A dragon! Born out of legend. Ulfric would have been dead if it wasn’t for that dragon. I may have died, but the war would have been at an end. Next time I see that Rolof and Ulfric, I’ll kill them and raise them from the dead!
Kidding…of course…
I met up with Hadvar, who led me through the keep, where we killed many Stormcloaks…Hadvar tried to reason with them, but they attacked us, even with our weapons sheathed. It wasn’t long before we made it out of the passages and into freedom. Again! I saw the dragon flying past us! It didn’t seem to notice us, luckily for us.

He led me to Riverwood, and there was a conversation at the table…but my eyes were closing and I paid little attention. Something about going to a place called Whiterun, and an Imperial city that I missed the name of. Even writing this, I can barely stay awake. For now…I sleep…but I feel my true adventure will begin in the morning. Maybe I’ll even find information on my wife.

Well, obviously you don't get it and this doesn't seem the playstyle for you. Instead of trolling, move along.

I didn't update for some time. The reason for that is a friend, who sent my a copy of Terraria. Awesome game. But I will continue today I think :).

I just saw all this DiD stuff, and while my initial reaction was "what a silly thing to do. I'd really hate losing my character at high levels after all that work".

But then I thought about it, and since my severe alt-itis would likely keep any of my chars from high level anyway, what the heck ...

Of all my alts out there, only one (beyond level 5) hasn't bought the farm yet, so here goes ...

Orc, Level 10
Name: Gor
Born: A few days ago :)
Died: Probably real soon (and he knows it)

Favoring 2H weapons ONLY (and only 2H swords at that), and Heavy Armor (of course), he is known to use a bow but sneaking is beneath him, as is shooting an enemy who is unaware of his presence. He picks locks out of necessity but only because, for some reason, no lock or door can be bashed.

He also totally eschews alchemy. While he has no problem chewing on the occasional antler or lump of troll fat, he would not be caught dead picking flowers.
Enchanting is out as well. That's for wimpy tissue-paper mages and cowardly sneaky thieves to lean on.

Smithing is where it's at and he approaches it with the usual Orc-ish enthusiasm.

As for caution, this Orc fully realizes that life is short and you only get one, so he tempers his urgings to charge into battle, and will employ caution and planning beforehand. However, once engaged, and despite my objections, he will not run (thus the prediction of the soon-to-be time of his death).

The over/under for the level the skeevers start gnawing on his remains is currently at 5 levels (15).

Anyone know when the civil war exactly started? I'm trying to make so my character's father was in the great war, and his father's death effects him joining.

I believe the event that started it was 20 years ago. If you do the Forsworn quest in Markoth you can find out about the originals of the rebellion. It seems that 20 years ago Ulfric stood up for the people. ~5 years passed and the actual fighting started, but it seems that only recently was it a full on war.

Like a lot of people on here, when I first learned about DID I thought it was a silly waste. All that time and effort spent on a character that could be lost in an instant? Then I thought about Dead Space 2. It had a Nightmare mode where you had to make it through the entire game with only 2 saves, a good 12+ hours of game play. It definitely made it more "Survival-horror" that way. So I figured I would give DID a go. Created my first DID character last night.

Name: Lilianna
Race: Redguard
Occupation: Sellsword
Specilizations: Mace, Shield, and Heavy Armor
Difficulty: Expert

So far my impressions are really good. It certainly makes things more intense. Considering every option, weighing risk vs reward. I'll report back if my fate is epic or embarrassing!

I have been doing a character for this currently he is still alive:

Name: Zacarius the Second

Level: 24

Race: High Elf

Occupation/Orientation: "Justicar", he is a good character

Specilizations: Light Armor, Block, Conjuration, One-handed

Difficulty: Expert

Description: A light armored warrior, quick on his feet and with superb blocking skills and a strong sword hand, if overwhelmed he will summon Atronachs or the best corpse lying around to aid him, in such manner he has a high capability of surviving - letting his minions into the midst of battle while he shells himself behind his shield and looks for an opportunity to gain an advantage.

Will announce if he ever dies

Currently doing pretty well, which might change now that I finally unleashed the dragons into the game world. Patch needs to fix elemental resistance or he'll die in the next dragon fight for sure..

S'Thassa is almost level 69 now, and has finished the Main, Companion and College quest lines, and I've decided to put her aside for a while; at the point I've reached with her there's not much else to do (she won't be joining either the Thieves' Guild or Dark Brotherhood) aside from seeking out more Shout components and doing the occasional side-quest, and even looting has lost a lot of point now that she has 100 Speech and doesn't need to sell everything in sight to raise it anymore. Her career isn't over, though, whenever additional content comes out she'll be the first one I run through it.

Based on experience it's pretty clear that I spread myself a little too thin with her build. I decided to raise Health and Stamina and cover Conjuration costs with enchantments, however it turns out that Dead-is-Dead practically requires Magic Resistance; unfortunately, MR takes up some of the same slots as Fortify Marksman and Fortify , which makes for a real headache when attempting to plan allocation. It's possible to not raise Stamina, however as an archer I make extensive use of the zoom-in perk and the base 100 Stamina drops like a rock when I do that, which leads to a similar, albeit lesser, problem as with spell costs.

As a result I've started a new Archer who is dropping magic use, except for select Alteration spells that don't require I raise Magicka since they're not constant-use, and adding Dual Daggers. He'll also be joining the TG and DB, as they fit his role of thief. It's my first stab (pun intended) at a DW-user, so if there's anything I should know regarding which 1h perks in the middle column I should be taking, please tell me.

Name: S'Kivir B'eyt
Race: Argonian
Gender: Male
Role: Thief, with cover identities of Blacksmith and Veteran Mercenary

After the escape from Helgen, S'Kivir B'eyt made his way to Riverwood where he assisted the local blacksmith to start establishing that cover in the area. Having been asked to relay information concerning the attack to the local Jarl, he then traveled to Whiterun, were he helped a group of mercenaries deal with a marauding giant. Impressed with his quick actions, a woman from the group suggested he speak with their organization's head in their base Whiterun if he was interested in joining them. This was perfect; he'd been looking for a way to establish the Mercenary cover, and they'd unwittingly handed one to him.

As requested he spoke to the Jarl, and was told to speak to the Jarl's pet mage, who had a job for him. This was just too good to pass up, so he readily agreed, despite some misgivings; he hated fighting the undead, despite his protection against the sicknesses they always spread, as he knew from experience that vengeful spirits were dangerous adversaries and there was no better way to stir them up than sacking their resting places. Despite this, he could barely believe his good fortune; it would be all too easy to establish the Mercenary cover, as completion of all the tasks he was being offered would send his local reputation skyward, with possible effects elsewhere thanks to word being passed by bards and trade caravans.

He had met one of the latter outside Whiterun, in fact, composed entirely of Khajiit; normally he would never trust a Khajiit, since they tended to compete with him over high-profile targets and he knew they'd knife him in an instant over one as he would them, however this group was clearly not involved in the trade. Their leader, who was also the merchant, was willing to buy anything, no questions asked, which would be handy for disposing of ill-gotten loot should they be in town when he was. He made a mental note to be on the lookout for other such caravans as well; if there were enough of them he wouldn't be dependent on fences to get rid of stolen items, which would increase his profits by removing the fence's cut from the exchange.

Having sold off a bunch of items he'd dragged out of Helgen for the purpose, he had a decent starting fund and paused to consider his options: work the smithing cover first (the local smithy had a goodly supply of ingots and ore to work with and a smelter to boot), or start in on the mercenary work? He wouldn't start stealing stuff right away, that much was clear; he'd seen the symbols etched onto doorposts and foundation stones, and their presence meant there was an active Thieves' Guild here. He didn't recognize some of them, which meant that he would need to make contact with, and get accepted by, the local guild so that they would be willing to provide that information; it was never a good idea to independently rob a place the guild had either targeted or declared 'safe', as this was a sure way to get on the guild's bad side and lose access to the invaluable services they provided, and knowledge of these marks was the best way to make sure that didn't happen.

After some deliberation he decided to do some smithy work, and look into the mercenary organization once he had better gear; as this place was clearly their bases of operations the mercs weren't going anywhere any time soon, while the local smith had gotten a massive order she clearly couldn't fill on her own, and was pressed for time in delivering it so would be grateful for his assistance.

Deidranna is venturing on, searching for all the daedric artifacts to reach real power. She is level 31 now and whilst her focus was much on conjuration (85), she now trusts even more on her combat skills, concentrating on heavy armor (67), one-handed (81) and her shield (38). She brews potions to help her out in certain situations, but most of the time she is fine that way. Her new pet is a dremora lord.
She also became a werewolf and hates it. She also hates the companions and everything they stand for. She is looking for a cure and the time will come when she wipes them out.
Resaerching in the Dovakhiin topic made her realise that the powers of the dragon come in very handy and will be a great help in achieving her goal of getting al the artifacts. Therefore she decided look into the matter to see what she can get out of it.

Oh, and I changed the difficulty from adept to Expert. It got a little too easy otherwise.
-------------------------------

Now, since I really can't stand not having a thief/assassin to fall back to, yesterday a lizard arrived in Skyrim.

Delekhan II
profession: Thief/assassin, before that tavern brawler (he is really strong and can take a few hits, although he tries to avoid being hit)
age: Unknown, something around the 30s I guess
focus: Sneak, One-handed, light armor, archery (in that order). He will brew his own poisons (and only poisons) when time and perks allow it. He also keeps his weapons sharp.
Difficulty: Expert

Hearing from the war going on in Skyrim he thought there should be enough work as an assassin. Also the chaos coming with war in general helps with getting a smart man rich. He ventured out to make sure he gets his share from the conflict when he ran into a patrol at the border to the throat of the world. Since tehre is a price on his head in all of Blackmarch and Cyrodiil, they took him in to end his "career".

He is now level 8. He already met the right contacts, following a lead to some boy. This brought him the attention of the Dark Brotherhood. The contract brought him to Riven where he met some fellow outlaws. He was surprised that they are indeed pretty well organized (although not too successful) and decided they could be useful, if only to sell stolen goods.
So there he is.

I will go for bleak falls barrows and kill the dragon, just to allow random dragon encounters. I won't use any shouts though and mst certainly won't follow the main quest since he couldn't care less about the fate of the world.

Name: Lilianna
Current Level: 12
Near Death Experiences: 4

Here is day one of my first DID character... sorry if I got carried away! ;-)
--------------------
As she sprinted down the hillside, Lilianna wondered how she had gotten herself into such a mess. A fireball screeched past in a fury, embers trailed along the ground, the snow turning to mush from the heat. A second, much closer this time, singed her clothes and hair. It traveled on and collided with a snow packed tree. There was a bright burst of light, and Lilianna had to shield her eyes as she ran. "It’s amazing how much trouble one can get into in such a short time," Lilianna thought to herself. Idly she wondered if Lydia was still alive, but she dared not waste the time to glance back.

Two weeks prior, Lilianna had been traveling to Skyrim to offer her services as a Sellsword. She had heard of the rebellion and knew there was always money to be made in a civil dispute. A whirlwind of events occurred before she had even made it into the providence. The ambush, capture, near execution, and worst of all, the dragon. Escaping the ensuing attack had gone well enough, for her at least. Following the advice of a fellow escapee, she made her way to a local town for supplies, as all of her equipment was lost in the ambush. Not surprisingly, many of your things can mysteriously vanish when your captors don't expect you to see another sunrise.

Telling her story to the townsfolk had netted her some provisions for a few days. In exchange, she had agreed to inform the local Jarl of the dragons. She didn't particularly care about the town, but if there was money to be made, the Jarl's palace would be the best place to start. After settling a romantic dispute in town and gaining a travel companion to Whiterun, Lilianna set off to retrieve some stolen property for a local trader. She would need the money if she was to get any kind of proper attire. She and the young elf, journeyed into the barrow. Through bandit and undead alike they battled. Finally coming to a vast open room with a high wall, the likes of which neither had ever seen. A quiet chant rose in Lilianna's ears. Her companion attested that he could hear nothing, and as she ran her fingers across the stone, she felt a rush of knowledge. Before she could stop to comprehend what had just happened, a crashing sound echoed behind her and she knew another battle was to ensue.

After the fight was won, she hefted a large intricately carved stone. It was very ornate and she figured, someone might offer her well for it. Traveling to Whiterun, she met with the Jarl and was asked to retrieve a special stone for the court wizard. Pulling the intricate stone from her pouch "Is this what you seek?" she asked. Stunned, the wizard only managed to stammer out a confirmation before shouting arose in the main hall. With a new task set before her, Lilianna ventured out to face a dragon in battle. She had no idea why the Jarl thought she would be more help than any other soldier, but she guessed it had something to do with her omitting that she spent most of the last dragon attack running away. She parted company with her travel companion, as he wanted no part of this.

The dragon was surprisingly easy prey for a beast of legend. After its defeat she felt a rush of power, much like what she had experienced from touching the wall. The men spoke of her being "dragon born" and the Jarl instructed she should go see the Greybeards. Turning away from the Jarl, she rolled her eyes. "You aren't going to catch me hanging out with some dusty old monks", she assured herself. Going about town, she found much work that needed to be done. She also met Lydia, a housecarl granted to her by the Jarl. She accepted her company and proceeded to give her all of the supplies to carry. Lydia glared at her through narrowed eyes, "I am sworn to carry your burdens", she said with clear distain.

The next few days saw the companions retrieving a lost sword, clearing a crypt of the dead, and putting a stop to a rogue wizard that had been terrorizing travelers. As they went to exit town one day, a guard mentioned he had seen a dragon circling a nearby mountain peak. Curious to investigate and find out more about this power she felt from slaying dragons, she pair set off to the mountain. It was dark before they reached the base of the mountain. Lilianna paused and crouched low, spying an elk in a stand of nearby trees. She loosed an arrow at it, striking true, but the beast bolted. She flanked around the rocks, trying to get another shot, knowing she could never outrun the beast. After a few minutes of climbing she could see the elk had chosen to cross the river and was now out of range. Turning, she found that Lydia was nowhere to be seen. Scanning the horizon in the darkening twilight, she spied no movement.

Lilianna headed for a nearby outcropping of rock to get a better view. As she crested the rocks, she spied a Saber Cat just 20 feet away. It turned towards her and hissed, baring its claws. Noticing the rocky gap between the two, Lilianna came up with a quick plan. Run! She sprinted as hard as she could up the mountain in the opposite direction. Turning she found she wasn't being followed and she breathed a sigh of relief. In the same moment, Lydia came trotting up. Thinking it best not to mention what had just happened, she had a reputation to maintain of course, the duo set off back up the mountain. As they neared the top, Lilianna realized she had slept less than 10 hours in the past week, and wondered how that was possible. Lydia didn’t seemed to be worried about sleep either.

Errant thoughts soon fled, as they came upon another of the strange walls. A dragon perched motionless atop it. Someone less observant might have thought it was part of the wall. Maybe it was sleeping or meditating, Lilianna did not care, she crouched low, aimed, and released an arrow that pierced the dragon's snout. With a roar the dragon took flight. It scanned the ground for its mysterious attackers and once spotted released a gout of flame in their direction. An old fir tree took the brunt of the fire and the two strode out to battle the dragon.

After a fierce battle, Lilianna could not wait to inspect the wall. From over her shoulder, Lilianna heard Lydia speak, "I've got a bad feeling about this". "The dragon is already dead," Lilianna replied, "what could you be so worried about?" In response, a large stone tomb near the wall began to shake. The lid flipped off, crashing into the snow. Out rose a ghastly figured. It hovered several feet above the tomb, with no legs that Lilianna could spy. It wore a tattered cloak and a mask made of iron or some other base metal. It began to glow a soft blue and removed a staff out of the air where none had been a second before. Lydia charged, greatsword held high. It was clear that this new creature was a spell caster, and as Lilianna had learned through the years, they were often best dealt with quickly before they could bring their power to bear.

The two women laid into the beast, slashing ribbons off its robe. The creature bobbed and weaved, quietly hovering. It flew back quickly, releasing a fireball from the end of its staff. It struck between the two warriors, blackening parts of their armor. A strong pain rose from Lilianna right leg, and she knew the flames had burned her along the gaps in her armor. The women closed in to prevent another such attack, but unexpected to them, the abomination released another blast at point blank range. The ferocious blast struck all of them. Lilianna staggered back, the creature seemed to pay no heed to its smoldering garments. She turned to see Lydia fall to her knees in the snow. In that instant she knew there was but one hope.

Turning, she sprinted down the mountain. The creature hissed and pursued her to the rocky ledge. As Lilianna made her way down the steep peek, the monster fired upon her again and again. It did not seem willing to pursue her any further, but had no problem launch volley after volley in her direction.

Snapping out of her trip down memory lane, Lilianna saw a safe haven. Once out of sight, Lilianna dove into some bushes. From there she watched the creature search along the mountain side for her. After what seemed like forever, the creature retreated back up the mountain to its home. Lilianna returned to Whiterun. As the heavy gate closed behind her, she fell onto a nearby bench to rest. "That was a pretty close one," she mused to herself. Just then, a shadow fell across her. Blinking, she stared up at the face of Lydia. Her armor burned and battered. Sitting up quickly, Lilianna said "Whew, I'm glad you made it! Seems my diversion did the trick!" Lydia started back at her blankly. "It was the only way I could think to save you," Lilianna grinned unconvincingly. "Come now, don't look at me like that. Tomorrow is another adventure", Lilianna exclaimed patting Lydia on the back.
