The Skyrim Dead Is Dead Thread III

Welcome to the Skyrim Dead Is Dead thread.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1255838-the-skyrim-dead-is-dead-thread/
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1277166-the-skyrim-dead-is-dead-thread-ii/

*ATTENTION* When posting updates on your character, If it contains information on areas, items, enemies or anything that is beyond general information, wrap those lines in spoiler tags. Do not let this keep you from telling your adventure. It is encouraged for people to post a description of where you are at and what you are doing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that contributed to making the DID playstyle a part of the Bethesda Softworks Forums. The initial thread began, and still resides, in the neighboring forum of Fall Out New Vegas. The founder .46ACP (Gunny) who was inspired by Longknife.

For the support of a DID community, I would like to make an Honorable Mention for Sten The Ugly.

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1248083-the-dead-is-dead-thread-9/ OP is maintained by Gunny

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1250157-the-oblivion-dead-is-dead-thread-ii/ OP is maintained by SENIOR CINCO

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1244573-the-morrowind-dead-is-dead-thread/ OP is maintained by Murandus

Now for the basics. If you are unfamiliar with, or would like to know more about the DID playstyle. Please visit the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_is_Dead:_A_gaming_playstyle_choice page, in the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/The_Graveyard_-_A_Dead_Is_Dead_gamplay_site_Wiki.

Just one rule...Dead is Dead.

1) When your character falls in battle or falls from a cliff, that's it. They are dead. Game over. No reloads. Feel free to restart, with the ole "I or II", after their names. If you so choose.

*Exception*
...If your character falls due to a glitch, the game locks up or due to any outside action and/or distraction ( kids / pets / mother-in-law ) at no fault from the player. No shame will fall upon you to revert to a previous save.

NOTE : Difficulty has no bearing in DID. It should be set, according the comfort of the player. Pending things like character build, roleplay, limits, mods, and experience, this can easily vary among players.

If you want to try a run, feel free to list your new characters, with a backstory if you like. As well as, their starting stats and limitations.
Update your progress. Much like the "Where are you now", thread. It's really not any different from most of your guy's/gal's playstyle...aside from the dead and done part.

When and if that happens, post their name, date of passing and any info you want to reflect on their tomb. I will list them in the OP, so they will be forever remembered.

NOTE : You must post notice, of starting a new character, for them to be eligible for the Skyrim Memorial.

Player Tomb Listings :

1) I will list the players in alphabetical order.

2) The graves, of your fallen characters, will be added to your Tomb.

3) Any info on your char will be added, to their grave, according to your post.

4) Each character's grave will be limited, to 7 lines of info, for simplicity and unity. I will be more than happy, to tie a link to your character's name for pics and stats.

5) The Tombs will have a heading, with the players user name.

*NOTICE*
...With regards to the memorial...If you commit to a DID, your character dies and you post " My dude died, on such and such, but I'm going to continue playing him/her", OR you play with a varied version, like restarting from a "half-way point". That is NOT Dead Is Dead and you will NOT get added to the graveyard. This prompted a lot of frowns and nasty comments, in the other forum. So, we can prevent this before it happens.

Thank you for participating and enjoy your game.

Stick Okan-Za in the memorial, will you?

Okan-Za

My new character actually died last night, but it was glitchy. For some reason he found himself temporarily unable to swing any sort of weapon, or even his fists. Had to reload my last autosave just to be able to fight again. I'm enjoying him more than Okan-Za now, probably because he's more specialised. It's a shame pretty much all characters are shoehorned into using the lockpick skill just to get dungeon loot though. I might need to keep an eye out for some sort of lock bash mod. My warhammer should be able to crack open those wooden chests without too much bother.

Will there be a mod that adds a graveyard to skyrim, with all these tomb stones?

Maybe. For sure, I'll be creating a mod with all my dead characters. Some will run shops, others offer training, it all depends on how their characters played out. I may add a graveyard for the other dead characters too. Graveyard would be updated whenever one of my own characters is added.

I don't see why would you want to turn the gameplay into pain instead of enjoyment...

For me, it just enhances the enjoyment. It forces me to think twice before going into combat and trying to power through things.

Hi,

This DID thread is actually a good idea. It should help us becoming better players, more careful and focused. ;) Now my character died killed by a blood dragon too; her death is documented here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198049816745/screenshot/648746351786756559?tab=public. I carried on playing her be now that I've discovered this place I'm willing to start a new game with a new character. Would you accept Cayla in your Hall of the Dead, please?

Spoiler
Deidranna made herself an exit through the wall. an old mage order was buried in this secret tomb. She went deeper and deeper, fighting off the guardians of this place, eventually finding herself in a hall with only one big coffin. A Draugr overlord, not pleased with her disturbing his rest. Now this fight was crazy. wo hits and her health droipped below 10%. That was the moment we realised we had no health potions left. We shouted at him and ran away, casting as many healing spells as possible before he striked again...it took about ten minutes, with every potion left used (heavy armor, block, fortify magic, health and stamina, draught of the warrior). Hit by hit, block by block the health of the undead dropped down. Deidranna tries not to get hit by the mighty powerattacks of the two-handed sword. Unreleting force makes in the end the difference. One last shout and she impaled the overlord. After this fight I had to make a break for five minutes bevor venturing on to the magic ball in the middle of the tomb. The first step to becoming archmage was made...

After reporting back we finally took the right way towards Dawnstar, unaware of the evil that befell this place...

So, Urma Gorku has just (Companions spoiler)
Spoiler
become a werewolf
. He won't be using that particular approach too often though. He initially joined the Companions for a taste of adventure, and as a source of coin while training as a blacksmith. His decision was also influenced in no small way by the fact that he rather likes the look of Aela's legs, and would greatly enjoy becoming more acquainted with them. He might not have the looks - he is an Orc - but could a warrior Nord with a sense of honour ever come to love him, if he does enough to prove himself to her?

Here we are, meet my new character, Fallen Angel, Nord, no particular skill, she uses bits of magic, can use stealth mode and fight: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198049816745/screenshot/648746351798075510?tab=public&filter=app_72850.

Fallen Angel was thus named after her parents (at least she thinks that it was her parents who put her there) left her along a road, somewhere in Cyrodiil one night and she was saved from predators by brave souls who decided to keep her. From this episode of her life, she keeps a claw scar on her left cheek. Later she covered it with a bloody war paint. Her saviours found a small note in her clothes who read: "May you forgive us once, little fallen angel."

After her foster parents died, killed by brigands in an ambush near the Imperial City, and she had learnt about her origin by reading a secret journal she found in her mother's belongings, she decided to sneak into Skyrim in search for the truth. Being a Nord she thinks that Skyrim would be the right place to begin. Right now, she's at Ralof's sister's place in Riverwood, resting.

Im on my 7th character playing DID, master difficulty, level 10. Im not much for storytelling, but I will say, sneaking through a forest at night and suprising a spriggan or bear and turning running for your life gets the heart racing!

Ok this just has to be the most ridiculous death so far.. I started a new character and alduins fire killed me. :o

Name: Sir Gorbad.
Race: Imperial, Male.
level 0 :D

I'm currently level 10 with an imperial male named Sir Gor von Badd. Playing on master difficulty, only rule I have is to not use a single buff thing when crafting, so I can't use too powerful gear. I'm not going to use invisibility at all either and full heavy armor will stop me from doing unhonorable sneak attack kills :)

Edit: Also no summoning, an atronarch turns the attention too much away from me. In addition, any companion I choose must use their basic gear.

If you want to do this for fun, then go ahead.

But I can't see the appeal at all, it feels like your turning the game into a chore...

For example, sometimes I like to save, then kill everyone in a town just for the combat. Or throw myself of a massive building, for the death.

Just seems a bit dull to play the game like this.

Horses for courses. Personally, I think your way sounds pretty hollow. I'd get bored of that pretty quickly. Playing DID, we all get pretty attached to our characters. I see no reason why any of my characters should even dream of throwing themselves off a roof for the lols. Of course, that may change if Aela knocks back Urma...

Shujaq is drunk half the time and hung over the rest owing his fantastic physique to more bar fights than any 3 orcs could claim to with a straight face. Playing dice in some run down hole in Riften he went one bet to far and lost the cloths off his back and hasn't looked back since, something about never having laundry to worry about again. He knows full well He'll die a grisly death sometime soon but until then there's bound to be more beer just over the next hill.

I enjoy making and playing complex builds, however if death has no meaning then there's no real reason for me to follow that complexity while leveling the character up, since I can always reload if something goes wrong.

When playing Dead-is-Dead, however, I don't have that safety net, so I play and build my character a lot more carefully. Since I can lose the character forever, he/she actually has substance, which gives me reason to stick to his/her RP rather than leveling and playing any-which-way. As a side benefit, going into a previously unknown location (I'm also playing 'blind') can be pretty suspenseful even if it's a brightly-lit grand hall; I have no idea what's there or where it's hiding, and even one ambush could mean the end for that character, so I have to be careful rather than just blasting through the place.

One thing I quickly discovered is that when you need to take your time and go slowly through a given interior, you have the opportunity to really see the details they put into many places, as well as the chance to scope out good places to set ambushes of your own, should the opportunity arise. You also get an appreciation for planning out battles and/or escape routes, since there are no second chances if you screw up.

Dead-is-Dead also happens to mesh well with one of my favorite play-styles in TES, the Mystic Archer (Arcane Archer to some folks); if I do it right I can take down pretty much anything, but if I screw up (and I sometimes do) things can get ugly really quickly. Since I can't take much in the way of hits (at least until I can make high-quality top-end armors) and Bows aren't very useful at point-blank range, I need to use everything my character has at his-her disposal to insure they can't reach me. This makes for some intense boss battles, since they can 1-shot my summons and my 'jedi mind tricks' don't always work on them; large groups can also be a problem, although there are ways to thin them out without undue risk.

I really like this idea. It adds together roleplaying and gameing. I will give this a shot. I hope this thread does not die..:)

This will be my first character with DID.

Name: Vortissa Shadowstar
Level: 1
Race: Nord
six: Female
Born: 4E 180
Description: Tall and well muscled just like all of Nord stock. Piercing blue eyes, a scar running down below her left eye and short red hair.

Can I post her adventures or just when she dies?

Would you mind sticking Asangar into the memorial? He was my first entry into DiD and I'm pretty dang proud of him.

Asangar
Born - Unknown
Died - Unknown
Level - 12
Male Imperial
Soldier of the Empire
After slaying many foes in the battle for Fort Dunstad, Asangar met his end impaled upon a Stormcloak soldier's steel greatsword.

Absolutely! That is what this thread is all about. It's about the marriage of heavy RP and DID. Tell your story.

Read through the first 2 links of the OP, to get the idea.

Enjoy your game.

Got some news from Fallen Angel; a messenger just gave me a letter from her:

"Dear Friend,

As promised I'm giving you news, although there's nothing much to say right now.

I spent a day and a half in Riverwood mostly resting and improving my armour and weapons at Alvor's forge. I'm a bit sorry to admit this, but I didn't have much money so I helped myself ito his iron and steel ingots... I know it's wrong but he apparently didn't notice. Oh well, what is done is done...

I made interesting encounters in Riverwood. There was this foolish Sven who tried to have me fool the woman he loves (Camilla, the general store owner's sister) with a fake letter from his rival, Faendal. After a visit to the store, I learned that it had been robbed and I promised to help retrieving the stolen object. While accompanying me to the bridge and showing the way, I told Camilla about Sven and the letter. It's not that I like to do this kind of thing but really, what kind of man tries to smear another man's name instead of confronting him directly? Camilla was thankful and said that I should talk to Faendal. I'll did it but after I had run to Whiterun and report the dragon attack to the Jarl. While there,I got a quest from his court Wizard; I can't recall his name right now. I don't like wizards, mages and so on. slimy characters.

On the way to Whiterun, I passed imperial soldiers escorting a stormcloak prisoner. I would've loved to free him but I had to renounce: three fully armed and trained imperial killers against me alone... After that, I met a group of "Companions" as they call themselves fighting a giant and they killed him! Wow! Interesting people, I'll have to consider joining them in the future.

After I made myself a steel sword at Eorland's forge in Whiterun, I'm now back to Riverwood where I hired Faendal. We're now heading to Bleak Barrow Falls where we should find both the stolen object and the thing the wizard wants me to retrieve for him.

Good Talos, this letter mus be a bore! I'll try to do better in the future.

May Talos be with you,

F.A."
