I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that contributed to making the DID playstyle a part of the Bethesda Softworks Forums. The initial thread began, and still resides, in the neighboring forum of Fall Out New Vegas. The founder .46ACP (Gunny) who was inspired by Longknife.

Now for the basics. If you are unfamiliar with, or would like to know more about the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_is_Dead:_A_gaming_playstyle_choice. Please visit the DID Gaming Playstyle page, in the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/The_Graveyard_-_A_Dead_Is_Dead_gamplay_site_Wiki.

Just one rule...Dead is Dead. /dead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' :dead:' />

1) When your character falls in battle or falls from a cliff, that's it. They are dead. Game over. No reloads. Feel free to restart, ( at the cave exit ) with the ole "I or II", after their names. If you so choose.

*Exception*

...If your character falls due to a glitch, the game locks up or due to any outside action and/or distraction ( kids / pets / mother-in-law ) at no fault from the player. No shame will fall upon you to revert to a previous save.

NOTE : Difficulty has no bearing in DID. It should be set, according the comfort of the player. Pending things like character build, roleplay, limits, mods, and experience, this can easily vary among players.

If you want to try a run, feel free to list your new characters, with a backstory if you like. As well as, their starting stats and limitations. Update your progress. Much like the "Where are you now", thread. It's really not any different from most of your guy's/gal's playstyle...aside from the dead and done part.

When and if that happens, post their name, date of passing and any info you want to reflect on their tomb. I will list them in the OP, so they will be forever remembered.

NOTE : You must start a new character, in the thread, for them to be eligible for the Skyrim Memorial.

Player Tomb Listings :

1) I will list the players in alphabetical order.

2) The graves, of your fallen characters, will be added to your Tomb.

3) Any info on your char will be added, to their grave, according to your post.

4) Each character's grave will be limited, to 7 lines of info, for simplicity and unity. I will be more than happy, to tie a link to your character's name for pics and stats.

5) The Tombs will have a heading, with the players user name.

*NOTICE*

...With regards to the memorial...If you commit to a DID, your character dies and you post " My dude died, on such and such, but I'm going to continue playing him/her", OR you play with a varied version, like restarting from a "half-way point". That is NOT Dead Is Dead and you will NOT get added to the graveyard. This prompted a lot of frowns and nasty comments, in the other forum. So, we can prevent this before it happens.

I have another update for Alice

As regards memorials, my characters die quickly enough that I feel i'd soon need a full post to myself so I'm not over eager to have memorials established

speaking of Alice:

Deciding the Jarl couldn't want the "Dragonstone" all that badly or he'd send a squad of city guards to retrieve it,

Alice left Whiterun with the intention of looking into the bounty she'd received for the bandits at Valtheim Towers. A

little way along the road she passed a dirt path muttering about whose turn it was to mug the traveller. Intrigued,

Alice approached the path and found the voices coming from behind a group of shrubs atop a ledge. Sighing, she pulled

out her sword, freshly crafted at Alvor's forge, raised her shield and slowly advanced round the crest to White River

Watch. Two bandits came into sight, one keeping his distance with a bow and the other charging in with an axe and no

shield. Alice caught the first blow on her shield, feeling the shock reverberate up her arm, the second swing she

preempted with a bash of the shield throwing the bandit's arm wide and thrust her sword through his chest, ending his

life. Turning her attention to the archer, Alice stomped towards him slowly and deliberately keeping her shield raised

and catching the arrows on it that were actually on target. Closing to within sword reach Alice cracked him around the

face with the flat of her blade before spinning round and nearly severing his head.

Entering the cave Alice was greeted with an old bandit so blind he couldn't even tell she wasn't one of the male bandits

she had killed outside. Walking past him, she almost let him live in a fit of pity before thinking better of it and

burying her sword vertically through the top of his skull. Moving onwards Alice stirred up another three bandits and

made short work of those before encountering a large cavern housing another four bandits and a caged wolf. Listening to

the bandits Alice heard that the wolf was not trained and better yet, half starved and tortured by the bandits. Pulling

the cage release, she stood out of sight and listened as the wolf savaged the unprepared bandits before joining in and

finishing off what the wolf could not. Taking everything of value not nailed down, she ascended the curving rock path

around the walls to the peak exit. Emerging into darkness, Alice realised just how much she'd lost track of time, then

she spotted the Chief, Hajvar Ironhand. Catching a volley of arrows on her shield, Alice charged forward and pummelled

him with sword and shield. Hajvar threw aside his bow and grabbed up an iron greatsword from the nearby table before

returning Alice's assault. Her shield proved its worth as the blows deflected almost harmlessly off and allowed her the

opportunity to return the received blows and finished off the chief with a jumping strike, piercing the bandit chief's

heart.

Deciding to return to Whiterun and rent a decent bed for the night, Alice indulged in her favourite winter childhood

passtime and sat on her shield to slide down the mountainside. Skidding across the bridge, Alice got to her feet and

jogged the rest of the way to the Bannered Mare. Arriving at the inn, Alice rented a room and went directly upstairs

before collapsing into unconsciousness. The next morning Alice rose early and took a trip up to Dragonsreach to use the

enchanting table under the watchful gaze and barbed comments of Farengar, who apparently expected her to hop to any task

he dreamt up immediately and without question. Tiring of Farengar's attitude Alice reasoned the best way to shut him up

would be to just do as he'd requested and explore Bleak Falls Barrow after all. Recalling the vague instructions

received from Farengar, Alice sold her remaining junk to Belethor and followed the road to Riverwood until she came to

the bridge across the river, then turned right and climbed the faint path up into the mountains. One wolf and several

bandits later, Alice stood in the great entrance hall of Bleak Falls Barrow with two more bandits huddled around a fire

further in. Slaughtering her way past these too, she pressed further in until she came across a bandit attempting to

unlock a puzzle door. Watching him fail spectacularly and fatally, Alice quickly aligned the obvious combination pillars

to match the carven heads mounted on the wall, granting access to the deeper levels of the barrow and rousing a trio of

skeevers to attack. Having no difficulty dispatching the skeevers, Alice continued down a rotten wooden staircase,

through a web covered doorway and into a large chamber that was home to an enormous frostbite spider and a bandit held

securely in its webbing across the other exit to the room. Alice charged the giant spider as it descended from the

ceiling, catching it unawares and getting in a few good, solid hits before it could recover. A few more blows and the

monster lay dead at her feet with the bandit now demanding to be released. Alice walked over and asked for the Golden

Claw, which he claimed was impossible because of his restraints. Considering his words, Alice severed the webbing and as

the bandit fell to his knees, she severed his head. Retrieving the claw Alice continued further into the ruins, she

encountered her first few undead but with judicious use of her shield they posed little danger. Dashing through a hall

of swinging axes, Alice pulled a chain to deactivate the trap before fighting her way through more undead, fire traps

and another axe trap, Entering an enormous cavern Alice was struck by the beauty of the place, with shafts of light

breaking through and a small stream bubbling through, but the biggest draw was a large platform containing a sarcophagus

in front of an ancient wall, the like of which she'd never seen before. It was enormous and covered in intricate

carvings on the upper half, the lower half being plain, smooth stone marred only by deep claw-like gouges. As she

approached Alice felt a powerful urge to touch the wall, like a vibration in her blood with an ancient chanting rumbling

through her mind. Surrendering to the impulse Alice staggered closer to the wall and pressed her palm against it. In an

instant she felt a surge pass through her, akin to a powerful shock spell but without the pain or spasms and she could

feel soemthing new....like when you want to say something but can't quite find the word even though it's balanced right

on the tip of your tongue. The feeling slowly receded as she backed away, only to hear a loud crack from behind her

followed by the dull thud of the sarcophagus lid sliding to the floor. Whirling around Alice saw another zombie

sruggling to stand up and in a flash she was upon him, hacking away with her sword. In a matter of seconds he was dead

again, or at least not moving anymore and Alice removed the Dragonstone that Farengar had sent her for.

Escaping the ruin through a secondary cave, Alice emerged into a clear night with both moons full in the sky. Scrambling

down from the ledge she had emerged on and following the nearby lake shore Alice made good progress back towards

Riverwood until she was attacked by two wolves. The wolves themselves posed no problem, but they brought with them an

Ancient Spriggan Patriarch looking like a giant walking tree and using a smaller tree as a club. Gaining some distance

from the monstrous creature, Alice pulled out a bow she'd acquired from a fallen undead. Three dozen arrows and a few

relocations later the giant walking tree was a giant dead tree. Returning to Riverwood with no further encounters, Alice

entered the Sleeping Giant Inn looking for a bed for the night but there was no Delphine. Asking Orgnar provided no new

information, apparently Delphine was "out" and so it was impossible to rent a room. For lack of better options, Alice

found the least sticky patch of table she could and put her head down to get a few hours sleep before morning. The next

day she returned Lucan's Claw in return for a nice reward and sold off much of her junk before he ran out of money.

Leaving the store she sold the rest to Alvor and picked up a dwarven bow to upgrade over her ancient nord one before

heading back towards Whiterun to present the Farengar. On arrival at the Whiterun stables a courier barreled up to Alice

and handed her a letter from someone called Calcelmo. Apparently the creepy guy had somehow found out already that Alice

had bought her dwarven bow and had time to dispatch a courier from halfway across Skyrim to deliver a letter to that

effect. Feeling disturbed and a little violated she turned around and marched straight to the carriage driver and bought

passage to Markarth to sort this out herself.

Entering the city Alice was struck by how different the architecture and layout was from any other place she'd been and

gazing around, even in the fading light of evening, she thought it might just be somewhere to settle down. Her mind

changed immediately when she saw a man in miner's garb pull out a knife and kill a woman in the middle of the street.

Rushing forward to help the guards restrain him, Alice accidentally nicked a meat merchant who decided to step in front

of her mid-swing. She surrendered immediately and marveled as the guard was more interested in reading her rights than

in the mage fire he was being doused in by the miner. After serving her time with hard labour, Alice moved directly to

the Jarl's keep to find this Calcelmo and find out what he knew of her and how. Calcelmo ultimately turned out to be a

disappointment, after he'd finished ranting about his own self importance, it became apparent he knew nothing of use to

her but was willing to pay double the value of her bow to acquire it. Accepting his offer and confessing some small

curiosity about the excavations under way, Alice got herself talked into another good will gesture agreeing to kill

another giant spider by the name of Nimhe. After disenchanting what she could, Alice headed through the gigantic metal

doors and into the ruins and made her way down through grand dwarven halls and excavation tunnels roughly hacked through

the stone until she found the spider nests. Disposing of the smaller arachnids by sword, Alice crept further through the

tunnels until she disturbed Nimhe herself and had to retreat from the globs of venom hurled in her direction. Thanking

the Gods she'd had enough sense to hold onto a back up bow, Alice pulled it out and proceeded to exchange ranged shots

with the spider, hiding round a corner to avoid venom and popping out only to fire an arrow.

With the demise of Nimhe, Alice saw a body lying in front of a web covered gateway. Investigating, she found an unsent

letter on the corpse describing an expedition into the ruins but with Nimhe standing guard here, there was a chance they

hadn't been able to escape. Resolving to try and find the expedition and save them if she could, Alice cut away the

webbing and entered into the ruined dwarven city. Rounding a corner, Alice stopped and dropped into a crouch with an

arrow nocked and ready to draw. In the dim light further on she could see pale, goblin-like creatures shuffling around.

Firing arrows into the gloom, Alice killed two of the creatures without much trouble but they were clearly tougher than

the average bandit. Examining the bodies, she found they had pointed ears like an elf, skin so pale as to be almost

translucent, jagged and pointed teeth and no eyes, but they had fired arrows with greater skill than most bandits she

had encountered. Making a mental note to be careful with these things, Alice progressed slowly, exchanging arrows with

one of the pale creatures on a lower level and pushing another off the high walkway she was walking along. Reasoning the

research team would have taken the first point of interest to investigate, Alice pushed her way through a huge metal

door. Straight ahead of her she saw another of the foul goblin things arrayed in what looked like shell pieces from a

giant bug. Raising her shield and sword, Alice approached and saw another goblin coming up a flight of stairs in the

background with a bow in hand. Heart beating hard, Alice engaged the first creature and struggled to best it. The armour

they wore was of better quality than expected and swords so sharp they threatened to rend her steel armour like paper.

Finally besting the creature, Alice retreated around a corner to cast a healing spell, but it left her magic dangerously

low. Rounding the corner again Alice kept her shield up to catch the goblin's arrows as she closed in. The creature

continued firing arrows with deadly accuracy and although she caught them on the shield, they protruded clear through

and stuck in her arm. Lunging forward Alice skewered the goblin with her sword, greatly wounding it but not killing. As

she unsheathed her sword from its chest, the creature loosed an arrow straight into her face and in the moment before

everything faded to black Alice knew she'd never truly stood a chance of saving the research team.

I find it hard to write every update in story fashion but quite enjoy writing small linking pieces...so here is a little bit of a linking piece...

“Yes my mother?” I breathed, “Who has called out to the void?” “A lonely minstrel summons your blade, spurned by love. Head to the capitol, where the songwriters gather, and the contract will be made.” Her voice was barely a whisper yet every word was as precise as an assassin’s cut. “It shall be so”.

Snow was falling as I emerged slowly from the concealed trap door in the hills above the city. I distrusted the thief, he knew too much - he had been close with the traitor after all – but his workmanship had to be admired. His fear of a knife in the dark should keep his mouth shut until a more permanent arrangement could be met.

Wrapped in a thick travelling cloak I pushed my way through the thick snow, my tracks would be covered soon enough. Once inside the city limits I made my way to the water’s edge where the ferrymen waited. The journey by boat would be rough but I did not fancy a hard slog through snow banks and marsh just to quell the shame of a petty singer. I stepped aboard, dropping a bag of gold on the bench and murmured a single word - “Solitude”. As the ferryman readied the boat I drew my hood yet closer around my head and set myself against the cold.

I awoke to the feel of hard steel at my throat and opened my eyes to see hatred staring back at me. Hatred set beneath the darkened helm of the Imperial Guard. I chuckled, “A guard dog without a master...have you reached out to the Dread Father for guidance? This is not the usual way, you know…” A hand struck me in the face before I was wrenched to my feet. “No escape for you this time assassin, you will rot for your crimes.”

It seemed they were true to their word. I was thrown to the deepest dungeon, a pit of darkness, ankle high in sewage and there I waited. No torture, no execution just the enduring darkness. A torture befitting the city’s name – solitude. Years passed in the eternal gloom, yet sanity did not depart me. The strains of conversation that penetrated the cell’s thick iron door nourished me more than the scraps they threw for my sustenance. Whispers reached me of the stagnating civil war, Imperials and Stormcloaks locked in an ongoing stalemate, unwilling to spark full on war, of vampires spreading from the north, the Hall of the Vigilants sent up in flames, the Dawnguard resurrected to purge the growing menace.

The sound of footsteps approached the door. Not the shuffling steps of the patrolling guards, the heavy step of steel on stone. “What are you doing here? The prisoner is not to be taken!” “The Emperor’s death lies on your hands as much as hers, stand aside by the order of General Tullius” With a screech, the heavy bars across the door were withdrawn and the great slab of iron swung slowly open. Five men, armored in bright steel stood in the entrance, the prison guards cowering behind them. Even in their disheveled state I could make out the armor of the Imperial Guard, it seemed I wasn’t the only one to suffer for my crime. Rough hands grabbed me and pulled me into the light, my eyes burning in the sudden brightness as I fell to my knees.

Strong hands grasped my arms and I was dragged through dingy corridors until eventually they dropped me onto the cold stone floor. An icy voice cut through my clouded mind, “The end has come…Listener.” I peered up at the man; I had not heard that title for a long while. A once proud face stared down at me, dark eyes set in a face weathered by time and long war. His armor was edged in gold and quicksilver but beneath it his body was frail. “Not just a mere servant sent at their master’s bidding but the legend herself. The head of the Dark Brotherhood, the Listener…and when the head is struck from the body, the body crumbles into dust. I will march you through the streets of the Imperial City, and before the gates of the Imperial Palace I will end this Brotherhood once and for all. The name of Tullius will rise above the chaff and no longer be sullied by this pitiful rebellion. Now get her gone!”

I was bound, hand and foot and led to the waiting cart. Chained to my seat with guards on either side, I could see no escape. The General’s cart setting in behind, surrounded by a mounted escort, the procession rumbled out of the city gates. We had travelled for many days, a slow meandering route south before the horseman came. There were three of them, Imperial couriers, mounted on horses that looked like they had been ridden to hell and back. “General Tullius, Sir. We have him! The traitor Jarl, Ulfric!” “By what fortune is this?” The General exclaimed. “An Imperial patrol fell upon him and his men outside Darkwater Crossing, they are holding him at Helgen.” “The gods smile upon the Empire today,” The General smirked. “The headsman will earn his keep.”

The column rolled into Helgen the next day and, still bound, I was pulled from the cart. Leaping from his carriage with a fresh energy, Tullius called out to his men “Bring out the rebels, Imperial justice will be realized this day. Send for the headsman” A small band of soldiers were lead from the guard tower, a proud man standing tall at their front. “And so it ends Ulfric, at least for your men. Your fate is not met today, you shall merely watch as the men who fight in your name are sent from this world. May their death lie heavily on your shoulders.”

The tall man was gagged and made no response but one of his comrades spoke up, “Enough with your preaching Tullius, we would follow Ulfric to whatever end and today we go to Sovengarde. So be it.” The man strode towards the headsman and stared him proudly in the eyes before kneeling and bowing his head. He looked up at Ulfric, “I will await you in the mead halls of Sovengarde my King”. The headsman’s axe came sweeping down and the blonde head rolled in the mud. The next prisoner was pushed forward but as he knelt the very air began to freeze and a wind howled from the east. A darkness set over the land and the heavy beat of wings filled my ears. Raising my eyes to the sky, my vision met a sight of pure horror. A dragon, black as the night sky, crashed into the western watchtower sending a shower of masonry to the ground. Eyes, wreathed in flame, surveyed the scene before its maw opened and rent destruction across the courtyard. Screams erupted as I was hurled from my feet. Rough hands grabbed me and pulled me upright. “C’mon kinsman, get to the tower. The guards won’t give us a second chance!”

Just to clarify this is still the same Kestral, I just moved the whole Helgen thing to this part of the story...She has been very busy in her progression of the main quest since her escape and has just left Septimus' outpost in the ice fields on the hunt for an Elder Scroll. On escaping Helgen she made her way to Riften, for a wanted master assassin it seemed a good idea to change her appearance a little (and rotting in a dungeon for a few years isn't great for your skin ). Returning to Dawnstar she was shocked to find the sanctuary deserted, it seems without their Listener the Brotherhood crumbled after all. Setting off into the world she heard further stories of dragon attacks and rumours the Jarl of Whiterun was offering a reward for anyone with knowledge of the recent dragon attack at Helgen. The rest is history...

RIP Kestral III...

Slain by the Draugh Warlord Gathrik in Ironband Barrow after the two adventurers she had been aiding fled in terror. Yet again I forgot all the means at my disposal in a tough fight, namely my spectral assassin buddy and Become Ethereal for a second or two of respite. In the end though a couple of swipes from the Deathlord's Ebony Sword was enough to end this adventure and yet another Dragonborn fades into history.

It was a good run though and she completed a quest line I had never done before and the first full quest line I have completed playing DiD so all is well. Time to retire the feral girl however and move onto the next one...

Aw soz Sulu. But she did do very well......and as you said.....just a couple of tactical decisions could have seen her win and still been alive.

Best advice is learn from the hindsight. Get better, stronger, faster etc. In a fight like that where you've got room to play with you don't have to get into a toe to toe slugfest unto death. Back off frequently to recover..run around a bit....also gives you thinking time....or cheat by just pausing combat while you have a think with a cup of tea!

Cheers guys, she was the furthest I have ever got on the main quest - had recovered the Elder Scroll and was collecting Elf blood when she got distracted by the ruin. So getting closer!!

They say it's best to get straight back on the horse so here we go...

Jericho is an Imperial what I would call Battlemage, rocking heavy armour, mace and destruction magic. Want to really get to grips with enchanting too, something I've not really explored before.

Trying to have a more 'natural' playthrough, I don't really know what questlines he will do - depends on what he encounters. Normally I have a set itinary for them to go through so this is a change for me...

So far he has travelled to Whiterun at Alvor's request and picked up a few quests there (Amren's Sword, Bounty, Gildergleam and Dragonstone). The Bounty is done and he is currently deep inside Bleak Falls. He is contemplating joining the Companions also, having aided in their giant fight, but Hadvar recommended the Legion and he feels it offers more adventure so leaning that way.

This game is hard when you don't use Block! Managed to battle my way through a couple of the Sanctuary guardians with Lydia's help but once she got overwhelmed it was curtains for me...

I'm taking a break from DiD play for a couple weeks, playing a reloadable character with Requiem installed and i'll be crashing on a friend's couch all next week babysitting for her over half term.

I'll be able to loiter around the forums on my phone, but as I say, no actual play/character posting myself

sulu, I enjoy your linking pieces. RIP Kestral and Jericho. I’m a big fan of battlemages. My favorite character is a battlemage who uses a shield. I find their large skill sets tend to need a closer eye than simpler warriors as they come along so that no combat skills fall too far behind. Good luck with your next adventure!

Jacelyn is outside Rimerock Burrow thinking over her plan. Her new hired guard Belrand did not do so well against the frost trolls and snow bears on the way up from Solitude. She has Vigilance to guard the horses, but now she wonders if he will need to guard her mercenary, too. Part of the problem might be Belrand's cheap iron armor. She has the armor she has been collecting for Vorstag with her, but she is reluctant to give it to Belrand. Jacelyn is not so great at making decisions.

I've decided to give a full on pure Mage a crack, I know it's tricky and very squishy at early levels but hopefully I can survive until I can get some decent Mage armour.

Went with a high elf in the end due to their increased magica and having fury from the get go seemed a good idea...

Dwemer spheres are the worst, in fact everything inside dwemer ruins freaks me out - so I do my best to stay away until I'm forced to go!

Rauol's life as a Mage is progressing well, feel like he has got past the immensely squishy stage (now only greatly squishy) and certainly doesn't have to run away from so much anymore. Something that has been a huge help is the shout Ice Form, good for keeping tough enemies away while magica recharges.

Started off doing some odd jobs around Whiterun before heading off to join the College. The only College quest done so far is Saarthal, having got very distracted since then. After picking up the amulet and strange writ from the draugh corpse his reading in the library has set him on the course of the Gaulder amulet. On top of that he seems to have become the Orc librarian's personal assistant and is on the hunt for no less than 5 different books.

He has made some interesting discoveries in the College, things I have never seen before myself. Decided to take a wander in the Middan (I have been in there only once before) and stumbled upon the attronach forge and a strange daedric hand. All I managed to do with the attronach forge is conjure a hostile flame attronach but I feel these some more power there. The daedric glove was easier to figure out with a book allowing me to locate and retrieve the rings taken from it. What will happen when the rings are returned remains to be seen...
