I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that contributed to making the DID playstyle a part of the Bethesda Softworks Forums. The initial thread began, and still resides, in the neighboring forum of Fall Out New Vegas. The founder .46ACP (Gunny) who was inspired by Longknife.

Now for the basics. If you are unfamiliar with, or would like to know more about the DID playstyle. Please visit the DID Gaming Playstyle page, in the DID Graveyard Wiki.


Just one rule...Dead is Dead. /dead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' :dead:' />

1) When your character falls in battle or falls from a cliff, that's it. They are dead. Game over. No reloads. Feel free to restart, ( at the cave exit ) with the ole "I or II", after their names. If you so choose.

*Exception*

...If your character falls due to a glitch, the game locks up or due to any outside action and/or distraction ( kids / pets / mother-in-law ) at no fault from the player. No shame will fall upon you to revert to a previous save.

NOTE : Difficulty has no bearing in DID. It should be set, according the comfort of the player. Pending things like character build, roleplay, limits, mods, and experience, this can easily vary among players.


If you want to try a run, feel free to list your new characters, with a backstory if you like. As well as, their starting stats and limitations. Update your progress. Much like the "Where are you now", thread. It's really not any different from most of your guy's/gal's playstyle...aside from the dead and done part.

When and if that happens, post their name, date of passing and any info you want to reflect on their tomb. I will list them in the OP, so they will be forever remembered.

NOTE : You must start a new character, in the thread, for them to be eligible for the Skyrim Memorial.


Player Tomb Listings :

1) I will list the players in alphabetical order.

2) The graves, of your fallen characters, will be added to your Tomb.

3) Any info on your char will be added, to their grave, according to your post.

4) Each character's grave will be limited, to 7 lines of info, for simplicity and unity. I will be more than happy, to tie a link to your character's name for pics and stats.

5) The Tombs will have a heading, with the players user name.

*NOTICE*

...With regards to the memorial...If you commit to a DID, your character dies and you post " My dude died, on such and such, but I'm going to continue playing him/her", OR you play with a varied version, like restarting from a "half-way point". That is NOT Dead Is Dead and you will NOT get added to the graveyard. This prompted a lot of frowns and nasty comments, in the other forum. So, we can prevent this before it happens.

Backstory: A hunter/thief looking to scavenge through Skyrim, she has snuck in with a Caravan under the pretense of guarding it. Haven't found the right opportunity to leave, she's stuck with the camp right outside Markarth. When it comes to robbing bandit camps and caves, she prefers to use illusion spells to pacify potential enemies rather than killing them outright. After all, dead people = less people to rob or swindle.

She was the daughter of an infamous assassin, but she always despised that line of work. Especially since her father was trying to mold her to be just like him. But she escaped that life as a child by running away. Was adopted in to a prominent gang of thieves, but decided to leave them after a raid on a small town ended in bloodshed. Now she is out on her own, trying her best not to cause needless bloodshed.

Side Note: Since illusion spells are going to be part of her toolkit and backstory, but aren't given to her at the start of character creation, I am going to have to use the command console to give her a starter set. But no other cheating will transpire.

There are two particular incidents for me to cover in this update, both of which occurred on my trip to Solitude. After killing Mirmulnir, I spent some time hunting down bandits in Whiterun hold and built up a couple of thousand gold doing so. White River Watch, Redoran's Retreat, Silent Moon's Camp, Valtheim Keep and Halted Stream Camp all fell at my hand. But, tiring of my days of hunting bandits and seeking a more consistent employment for a time and even a meaning for my time in Skyrim, I decided to follow Hadvar's advice and travel North to Solitude to join the legion. Now the last time I tried to do so on an imperial ranger character resulted in what can only be described as utter chaos in which I did battle with my arch-nemesis 4 separate times and even lost the sixiest horse in existence. It was a mess of dragons, ghosts, animals, my nemesis and bandits. This time I decided to make a go at travelling through the Labyrinthian Pass by sneaking past the Frost Trolls that sat within (4 or 5 of them). What a brilliant idea you are are probably thinking sarcastically. Well I made it past three of them without any problem but I had one major flaw: I thought there were only three frost trolls. So as I sneaked through then region, I was reaching the end when I saw another one just below me. My heart stopped as I saw what I dreaded the most, the steady widening of the 'sneak' eye. I sat there in silence, waiting for a moment before finally the eye stopped and thinned out again to nothing. I breathed out with relief and turned to give the troll a wider berth to allow me to reach the exit and be on my merry way to Morthal and promptly saw another frost troll right behind me (I'm unsure if this was a 5th Frost troll or one I had already sneaked past). It turned around and seemed to be going and so I wasted no time in setting off again. It saw me. Then the rest of the frost trolls saw me. Then I started sprinting, as fast as I could, dodging the frost troll that guarded the exit and skidding down the mountainside towards the bottom. They were behind me, trying desperately to hunt me down and kill me but I kept running. Down the mountain and through the now-misty forests and into the swamps. Finally I could see Morthal and I brought myself to a halt to enter the town and rest up for the night.

Morthal is easily one of the most atmospheric towns in Skyrim for me, at about 9 at night (Skyrim time) I found myself stood outside wandering around Morthal by myself. The only other people out were the guards who occasionally wandered by and commented on various matters in Skyrim at the time. But what stood out to me was the utter, pervading and smothering silence of the town. The sky was partially clouded over but I could see the bright and brilliant colours of the Skyrim aurora and only a corner of the larger of the two moons peaking out through the gaps. It bathed the skies in an ethereal and eldritch glow as a thin mist settled down over the marches, the wind whistled past every so often with its ghostly music and all was silent. All I could hear was my own footsteps, the occasional breeze and the trickling water of a stream beneath the bridge. There I stood, the eldritch skies above me, the smothering mists around me stretching out endlessly into the marshes and the utter, deafening silence around me. It was the kind of night that could fit well into an old Gothic tale and the town seemed to fit. That beautiful, horrifying atmosphere, the kind in which one might expect to find themselves investigating Cthulhu or other abominations from beyond our world, was one of my finest moments in Skyrim and it didn't even end when I finally went inside. There was no talking from the NPC's inside save for the short discussion between me and the innkeeper for me to rent a room. Even the bard seemed like he had no intention nor desire to play a song but simply tapped on his drum well into the night. Men and women sat there, fixated on their drinks as if they held a deep fear of leaving the warm, safe building to face whatever the night might hold for them, even if it was just to return to their homes and the, seeming safety of their beds. It was this state that serenaded me to sleep.

I set off the next morning at about 5 am, hoping to leave early to reach Solitude and talk to Tullius before it was too late in the day so I might have time to explore the city and sell off some of the goods I was hauling about before nightfall. There was a fine mist pervading the marshes when I set out and I seemed to pass by the new court wizard of the city as I made my way out for Solitude, this early in the morning it would seem he had been out there in these ghostly marshes all night. Doing what? Never mind, I continued on my way and gradually the mist began to lift as the imposing cliffs of Solitude rose up before me and the deep yet inviting waters of the widening rivers that separated my bank from the city itself. As I reached the banks of the river, I heard a familiar sound from behind me. The roar of a dragon and, as I turned, I saw a bronze dragon (let's call him Smaug) rise up out of the marshes and spiral into the sky. The sun was starting to rise and it seemed to set the mist behind me ablaze as I turned to run. Luckily Smaug didn't seem to be too interested in me and I would have been able to secure my escape. But then I realised, I was one of the few in Skyrim with experience in killing such beasts and there was a major city nearby that was at risk of suffering the same fate as Helgen if I left it alone. I cursed myself and drew my bow. What followed was a dance of fire and death across the marsh, as me and Smaugexchanged our fire for hours on end in a fight that soon culminated in me hiding desperately with very little health left in a small cave in the hope that Smaug wouldn't find a way to hit me with his fire. Smaug prowled outside and even occasionally grew tired of me and went to hunt other, more easy prey but always returned to try and bring me down. Hours passed as our battle turned into a series of very small and very occasional skirmishes. I found an area of the cave in which I was safe from his fire but could only hit areas of his tail with my arrows when he hovered above the cave. However it was a small area and one tiny movement would allow him free reign to blast me and turn me into deep fried imperial. Occasionally he got lucky, including one time where I thought he had landed on top of the cave and I peeked my head out to take a look and was caught right in the face by his fire. I only got a few shots with each and every skirmish but gradually whittled him down. So we did battle. What proved especially problematic was that there was a certain area of the cave that my arrows just hit if I tried to fire, so I was limited to hitting only the very tip of its tail. I couldn't leave the cave because it would only take a few hits from its breath to kill me and I had already expended my healing potions trying to get to the cave in the first place. It was me or him. One of us would die here.

Then came the defining moment of our battle. Smaug fled. He flew of into the marshes, greatly reduced in his health and flew off to the West. Now remember, I am an idiot and naturally I followed him, determined to end him while he was low on health. I followed for a while but was unable to find him and was about to turn back when suddenly he erupted from the ground to my right, mysteriously healed by a good margin and proceeded to attack me. Luckily he was a bit distracted which allowed me to gain some distance but, when he finally turned his attention back to me, I found myself unable to return to my cave and instead chose to dive into the water and swim for Solitude. He pursued, lighting up the water around me with his breath and I was only thankful for a necklace of waterbreathing I had stumbled across earlier and didnt decide to sell. Because I was able to keep my head under and avoid his attacks for the most part before taking refuge underneath the Solitude docks. The battle now raged on the docks as the Solitude guard and I desperately tried to bring Smaug down, using whatever cover we could find to protect ourselves from his attacks. But with greater numbers and a more secure position, we quickly worse his health down and Smaug, realising the battle was lost, chose to flee. I couldn't follow him this time as he fled North over the mountains towards the Sea of Ghosts leaving me the Solitude guard victorious and alive. I climbed up from the docks, past the stables and finally made my way, a full 10 hours after I first saw the dragon, up to Solitude itself....

Then Smaug returned. We fought another small skirmish, duelling Smaug down from the city, to the stables and finally back down to the docks where we once again emerged victorious and drove Smaug into retreat. He was persistent, but, I would continue to fight him until he either died or fled for good. For a second time, I headed up to the city and had a quick chat about Roggvir before I heard Smaug overhead yet again. But this time, Smaug had no interest in a fight and simply flew over the city and fled out towards the Marsh where he finally disappeared. At 5:42 PM, 12 hours after I set out from Morthal and about 11 since I met Smaug for the first time, I lost track of Smaug and entered Solitude. Silently I swore that the next time I met Smaug, he would meet his death by my hands. It seems I have a new arch-nemesis.

TL;DR: Went to Morthal with some frost troll shenanigans, had some quality time in Horror-ville before setting out for Solitude. Fought an 11 hour battle with a dragon. Finally reached Solitude and watched a guy get decapitated. Got a new nemesis.

She′s an Imperial spy! Trained by the Synod, she was sent to Skyrim to join the Stormcloak rebellion three months ago along with her husband, a Bosmer who was going to infiltrate the Thalmor embassy, but her party got attacked by vampires and everyone else died. She barely made it out alive, with a horrible scar to tell the story of the battle against a Gargoyle, but no papers to tell the story of her infiltration to the Imperial Legion. The plan had not been disclosed to anyone in Skyrim for precaution.

When she was caught along with the rebels, the irony hurt more than the prospect.
