THE Skyrim Horses topic...

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:50 am

So yeah, there are horses in Skyrim. You can ride 'em. All over the place. And put them in stables. Some are very nice.

But THAT'S ABOUT IT.

Why?

Forget all the boring stuff like, I don't know, shooting arrows, fighting from horsekack (typo, but I'm leaving it in) in general, or carrying stuff, or being able to call him like a taxi, or name him Buttocks Rodriguez, or anything like that.

What I want to know is, WHY DOESN'T HE EAT PEOPLE? I know, the animation would be really long and some might say (not me) boring, but it's for immersion.
I mean, if they wanted to speed things up he could just svck the bones and meat clean off of people in an instant, like a long spaghetti, leaving a pile of bones.
I'm disappointed that Bethesda overlooked such an obvious feature in the game.

What do you all think?

I didn't use horses in OB and I don't use them in Skyrim only because I can't kill while riding my horse.

I LOVE horses, I have been riding since I was 8 yrs old. It's NOT boring stuff like shooting arrows. I should be able to do that from my horse.

Yeah I'm pretty sure a horse svcking the flesh and muscle off of a human breaks the laws of physics.

It's not possible.

Maybe you can replace it in your mind with other yucky-sounding words. Like "flapnibits" or "hobubbles."

Perhaps it's because the game is trying to be somewhat realistic in certain aspects, and since horses eat grass, I would think it would be weird if they ate the enemy I just killed. It wouldn't even enter my mind to think my horse would do such a thing. Also, I used horses for a short time, but to me, they are more of a hassle than anything.

Oh, why bring "physics" into this? There are dragons, magic, nonhuman intelligent beings, a rash of kneecapping archers targeting adventurers, various planes of reality, square snow...SQUARE...SNOW... :cold:

I love them, too, and so does my wife, who likes to watch me play, and similarly to what you said, I don't have a horse is skyrim because she would be DEVASTATED if it died. I would be, too, but would think of raising it with necromancy, saying "Fight for me again!!!!!", and then immediately dismiss the idea.

I actually kept Friar Balmorel's Horse for the entirety of Oblivion because it was the first one I was able to ride, and I would perch him outside of frostcrag spire when I went to make spells, such as a burden spell I made called "fifty pound genitals".

The horses are there it seems more to ... be there than to accomplish anything. You can ride a horse and it's slightly faster than running at the beginning. The one big advantage is that you can fast travel on a horse while overburdened. That's about it.

Oh, and this post earns me a star!

THIS!

Why limit yourself?
Actually, I agree, it would be great. I would even settle for being able to cast Clairvoyance on horseback...

I just got an image of a bunch of Thalmor on horseback (even though they're always walking like Mormons), riding through Skyrim, not fighting since you can't, and, since they're in unfamiliar territory, having to stop avery 2 minutes, dismount, hold out their hands and squint (casting clairvoyance), then getting back on their horses and repeating this process again and again.

I am starting to think that horses are DESIGNED to be able to go up almost vertical mountain sides. Using a horse to get over a mountain instead of walking all the way around (or jumping up by foot) is much easier; it would also explain their total lack of speed when compared to running on foot.

Man, I would LOVE to be able to stable my horse. As far as I've seen the closest thing to stabling is him running to the nice warm spot inside of the dragon's tummy where he is eventually fated to reside.

Had an urge to post this.

I ride Shadowmere. :P
Might have a stolen horse in my past, beyond a quest, but Shadowmere is my horse of choice in a world of dragons, and dangers.

Overall, I like horses. They work like a strength potion. If you're over loaded with gear, hop on a horse, and you can fast travel. Shadowmere will gladly trample a bandit, or a dragon nearby.

Lacking horse combat is annoying. It's why I don't ride, coz I don't like getting caught with my pants down, so to speak. That, and my follower can't ride, nor keep up properly.

Kinda weird that your horse will detect you, too. When you're sneaking in hostile areas, it can throw a person off, right?

Another gripe is the fact there's no hose call. I'd like one, honestly. Not necessarily something crazy like calling your horse, and it teleports across Skyrim to you (Unless it's a shout. o.O) but something for if your horse is kinda close, but out of arm's reach, you know? Sometimes after a fast travel your horse isn't near the enterance to a cave/ruin.

Games like Red Dead Redemption, and Dynasty/Samurai Warriors kinda spoiled me on the idea of a horse call. :P

I'm starting to imagine Dynasty Warrior horses in the game now, like Red Hare, and the elephant which would probably be a mammoth.

Or Red Dead Redemption's horses of the apocalypse, or the Unicorn.

Maybe we could get a pegasus?

Maybe we could get a horse stable expansion? Sort of like a horse garage so we can have multiple horses?

Oh the possibilities!

I hope I didn't derail the topic. o.O

Hmm... maybe you're on to something. I'm not so sure, though. I'd like to think if they were designed for the steep-walkiness there might have been some steep-walky animation to go with it. But in practice it makes sense.

Not at all! THIS is what I'd like discussed here!
My favorite part of RDR's Undead Nightmare was the Horses of the apocalypse, and even the random zombie horses that you had to fight to keep riding straight because their brains and tissue had deteriorated and they were just a hot mess.

I'd enjoy a stable dlc as well, definitely more substantial than the horse armor in oblivion (which I for for Prior Balmoral's horse).

I thought of Pegasus, which could be interesting with the dragons in the sky as well, or a nightmare, AD&D style, all black with blazing eyes, smoking nostrils and a streak of flame from his hooves. I don't remember whether they could fly or not, though.

OK, how about this: You're on horseback, riding past another person on horseback. You press the "action" button as you pass them and your horse slurps up the other guy's horse's flesh and tissue. His horse's skeleton collapses over a 40 ft line and sends the rider tumbling to the ground. You ride in a circle and gobble up the dude before he has a chance to say "Peep" to you. Or, "Damn you, your horse slurped up my horse's flesh and muscle!"

I think that would be awesome.

My horse will sometimes run away when we're attacked..and I have to fast travel to find him again..other times..he gets ride in the middle of the melee and I've accidentally killed him...in or out dude. I don't mind if you run away..just don't get in my way like the f***ing dog...argh..reload. :)
