Shalidor created spell reflection, basing it off the ward placed on Spellbreaker.
But the Dwemer who enchanted it would've invented spell reflection first.

Is there any proof that Spellbreaker was made by the Dwemer? It is a Daedric artefact - I just thought that it was made by daedra.

The relevant portion:

Spell Breaker, superficially a Dwarven tower shield, is one of the most ancient relics of Tamriel. Aside from its historic importance dating from the Battle of Rourken-Shalidor, the Spell Breaker protects its wielder almost completely from any spellcaster, either by dispelling magicks or silencing any mage about to cast a spell. It is said that the Breaker still searches for its original owner, and will not remain the property of any one else for long. For most, possessing Spell Breaker for any time is power enough.

I see. Well, thanks for clearing that up :)

Well, even though Mysticism spells were around for a while, the Psijiics actually created the core spells we knew until Morrowind. Whether or not they actually invented the spells is up for debate anyway, since I remeber reading somewhere that they call Mysticism "the old way", and that even they do not know everything about it.

If the Dwemer are so smart, why aren't they there to stop me from taking and breaking their stuff?
Because they're the Dwemer. Do you really think a race that intentionally attempted to leave existence has/had any concern of earthly possessions?

Yes, if only because they locked their stuff. Put traps on items or near storehouses and they had a puzzle box :)

Course not, they're gone. Although I'm sure somewhere in that Numidian skin is a little Dwemer girl crying because she left her favorite toy at home :(

They did set the traps, presumably in anticipation of leaving. I doubt that their ruins were as fatal as they are now as they were when they were inhabited.

The dwemer left the traps because before they left, they cared about their possesions. I don't think they cared enough to go around unlocking and un-trapping just to give adventurers an easier time.
