The Smithing Tree

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:16 pm

The Smithing Tree, the circle that isnt a circle. As many will learn, some the hard way, some from the way they look at it. But going either way up the Smithing tree to the dragon armour perk, you'll find you cannot carry on going around the circle,

I.e

Glass > Dragon > Daedric

Or

Daedric > Dragon > Glass

Now for anyone that choose light armour path they will find that they will be giving up using the best weapons in the game even thoe no matter what path they took they could of got the best light armour in the game still. The only way to fix that is to waste another 5 points in smithing just to get daedric weapons.

Now is there any plans to fix this in some way in the future? Some may say its not a bug but seeing as the tree is a circle, there is no "end" or "top" of the tree, and shouldnt limit how far around the circle you can go, so either 2 options..

1) Let us go all way around the circle in any way we please after hiting Dragon armour.

Or

2) Change the tree into a "V" shape, spliting the Dragon Perk into 2, "Light Dragon Armour" and "Heavy Dragon Armour" making it 100% clear how this tree actually acts.

Thanks :)

Glass weapons aren't that much weaker than daedric, plus the best 1h weapon in the game is a glass sword called Chillrend, which is stronger than a daedric sword, it also has paralyze + 30 frost damage enchantments. You could beat that with a daedric weapon using damage enchantments, but in terms of pure damage Chillrend is the best.

Glass armor is also similar in strength to dragonscale. Glass armor looks okay, apart from the helmet, which is why I wear a hood and the rest glass armor.

I don't think a lot of people take into account that light armors and heavy armors are made in completely different fashions which justifies not being able to go all around the tree. Yea it is kinda dumb that you can make light armor and heavy armor when you unlock dragon but if Dragon Scale armor is better than glass than I don't see the problem because then you're getting better weapons and armor if you go up one side of the skill tree. The way I see it is that you're learning presumably one type of armor in which the complexity of the type of armor you're making increases which is why it's better than the armor you had learned before. You'll have to learn the basics of making light armor since all you know is how to make heavy armor or vice versa. If anyone would like to post the total armor rating on Dragon Scale and glass armors i'd much appreciate that.

Not true seeing as you can make 2 sets of heavy armour by taking the light armour side, Dragon and Scaled. If it wasnt for these 2 "HEAVY" armours in the light tree, then i'd agree. But they are there, which means there is no reason you can continue and learn a 3rd heavy armour by keep going round.

Glass armour total rating is, 103. While Dragonscale is 111.

As for Glass weapons Vs Daedric, well, Daedric weapons are roughly 25-33% stronger then glass, not a small amount at all

I think its lower than 25-33%, its more like 15% IIRC?
Also the best weapon (chillrend) has a higher base damage than a daedric sword.

For the 5824572023th time, it's perfectly fine the way it is.

Glass weapons are 8-10% weaker than daedric, when both are improved. The perk you save by going the light route will even this difference.
The hardest-hitting 1h weapon in the game (Chillrend) can only be made Legendary if you have glass smithing.
You can hit the armor cap easily in light armor.

Chillrend is level based right? And can only be gotten once? At what point does it become better then a Daedric's sword?

Wow, I thought since it was a circle, I could follow the path or a tradition circle. I'm on Glass right now, I can upgrade to Dragon at any point, just having fun with Glass now. So your saying I will not be able to Smith Daedric weapons after Dragon? That svcks, I want a Daedric bow!
