[WIP] the Solar Scorcher

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 5:58 pm

Yeah, I'm still on it, slowly but surely. Been busy with school, work, and grandparents in nursing homes.

Barring any more of the latter (pleeeeeze no!), I should get some more done over the next few days.

Would you like me to split the model up into parts with separate textures, or do you think it can all be done in one tile? The pulse pistol has its detail level because it's on a monster 2048x2048 tile; splitting it up into just a pair of 1024x1024 tiles will give a fair level of detail over a single with half the VRAM usage of the 2048x2048.

I can whip up the ultrabright beam effects tonight and send them, it's just some NIFSkope vertex color tweeking.

Okay, thanks, I was'a wondering! :)

Seperate textures would be fine. Either way I guess. I don't think the FO2 had much detail but thats difficult to see on the little 2D icon. :biglaugh:
For the most part, really high detail is not worth the VRAM since you really can't get that close to the weapon. At closest, it would be at arms length and only visible from the back. Laying in the world, its usually not that close to the 'camera' either.

I guess I should start working on the interior of the building then. :)

Basic shape is done. My emitter dish idea didn't work out, so I guess I'll stick with something more in line with the original. Overall length is about 33% longer than the Laser Pistol.

Gonna add some external wires via Lofting next, for some more business around the whole thing

awsome! glad to see you guys are still doing this!

I have a question though... What if I give the solar scorcher to a companion? Will the gun still charge/ will they be able to use the ammunition?

Why wouldn't you want to use it, hmm? Hahaha.

But seriously this is one of those weapons that just would not fit in with WeaponTweaks replacers and I would like to make a T3T_WT compatible .esp for this mod once it is complete. It looks awesome.

lol I just get tired of having to supply my companions with ammo. Plus a couple of my game saves have very low energy weapon stats

I am not sure how much its being worked on, truth to tell.

I had not thought about giving the weapon to a companion since I never use one. You may want to reconsider since the weapon does so much damage and companions have a tendacy of shooting you in the back.

I will look into making the weapon usable by companions. Not sure how I would test it though since I dont use companions... hmmm

I still have my part of the mod. But the original Fallout Solar Scorcher model is in limbo since I have not heard from the model maker in a while.
If somebody wants to make the original weapon mesh, that would be great. Otherwise, I will eventually just use another weapon and call it something else, like a Solar Blaster or...

The script for the weapon is pretty advanced now. It 'should' work for NPC's as well.

Well that's sort of good news. I was hoping it wasn't dead, seeing as you pretty much painstakingly recreated Vault 13, which is awesome.

Since another person is working on a part of my Vault 64 mod, I have some free time to work on this. I am currently making the inside of the building where you will find the 'Guardian of Forever' gateway. After this part is done, then I just need to finish up cluttering Vault 13.

So what do we need to do to motivate MadCat to finish the model he was working on for this?

...I love the idea, and would love to see it implemented... but am very much hoping it can have a custom model for it rather than just recycling one from another mod (I'm personally not fond at all of the one used in screenshots on the last page - but that may just be me).

The gun model has been turned over to another modeller. So, work is continuing on this project.
Thanks for the interest.

I have added a lot to the mod. Including re-doing the gateway.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l237/WillieSea/SolarScorcher/SolarScorcher15.jpg

A brief step by step guide to the mod so far...
1. Find keycard outside in parking lot.
2. Use keycard on security reader and door opens for 5 seconds.
3. Inside, drop through hole in floor and enter Gateway of Forever.
4. Use Vault 13 console to 'blow up' vault electronics.
5. Medical door now opens, find security keycard.
6. Keycard opens elevator door. Use elevator.
7. Use terminal in operations to open mainframe overseer door.
8. Use Mainframe terminal to open secure room.
9. Repair gas-line to pump gas into cavern. Blow up gas damaging deathclaws, then finish them off.
10. Get keycard from foot locker in cavern.
11. Operate research terminal to get Solar scorcher.
12. Exit via the Gateway of Forever and your back in the real world once again. Was it a dream?

Off the cuff idea here..could you whip together a gold necklace with a waterchip as a pendant and put it in somewhere? would make a keen memento...or maybe a vault boy statue on a pedestal holding a water chip...

A necklace or Pipboy would require a new model which I am not proficient at.
I tried to make the necklace, but it would not work.

The weapon should be a nice momemto.
Its going to be nice. :)
