The Sole Survivor- What We Know

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:15 pm

I'm creating this thread so we as a community can compile our knowledge.

What We Know:
1. Their name is created by the player.
2. They have a spouse and a baby.
3. They were in the Army. (The wife mentions a "Veterans Hall" during character creation, and the Kotaku leaked script stated so also. Probably where the player received Power Armor training.)
4. They lived in Sanctuary Hills.
5. They are between 20-30 years of age.
6. Due to being in the Army, they have some form of experience with firearms and armor.
7. The protagonist owns a Mr. Handy.

Will edit when more information arrives.

Technically they have a spouse and a baby, as you can play either male or female.

How do we know their ages? And we don't know for sure what the female protag's background is yet.

More precisely, opposite gender spouse and a baby. I know, I know, don't shoot me. *ducks*

It is highly unlikely our character is over 40.

2. Spouse and child. You can play the wife.

3. You are going to the Veterans Hall for some reason, you may be the caterer. Your spouse may be the vet. But yeah, the protagonist is probably the vet.

7. The protagonist has a robot.

You can find Dogmeat relatively early as well.

I think he/she is more likely 30-40... I mean... who is a veteran with 20?

Really depends. I completed my four year hitch in the service just after my 22nd birthday.

Yes, the veteran hall says nothing, except that you are supposed to hold a speech. Lots of places like this are rented out too. So you might hold an speech in an friends weeding.

if you character is so bad handling an gun in FO4 as he was in the start of FO3 he has no military training.

Note you can always be an veteran is something else everything from radar operator to doctor.

How so? There are lots of people over 40 having children, my grandparents being one of those couples.

In an interview (polygon? maybe?) Pete Hines mentions running around as a 235 year old, so if we take the "200 years later" from Todd as accurate, the protagonist is 35.

Indeed. Not every service member is good with, or uses a weapon daily. Some of the most un-coordinated people i know, i know from the military.

During a 11 year war with China, occupation of Canada and the use of troops in the US, I'd expect a lot of the Pre-War population to be veterans at quite young ages.

Pretty much this. A lot of soldiers are actually people who come of age. If there was drafting during the anchorage war and invasion of china that adds more of a likelihood they were 18 when they first served, then you have people joining up. A lot of people out of high school join the military because of the G.I. bill and even during world war 2 a lot of people who came of age (some even lied about their age) signed up to join the armed forces against the axis powers.

Looking at the pre-war culture, they likely continued the 'baby boom' similar to the one our country experienced during the 50s.

You are right, but everyone that joins up receives some form of weapons training.

Either you or your spouse will be brother or sister to Roger Maxson. There is a military history in the family. There is a burial flag on their bookshelf in the living room. You survive 200 years in the vault, then you find out your son is alive, as a ghoul. You cure him from being a ghoul. Aurthur Maxson shows up and all hell breaks loose. The end....

And that proves what? My grandparents had their last child during that very same time period, so did other couples in that same age range.

If you paid attention to the trailer, you would notice that the Sole Survivor only has one child.

Even for those in branches like the infantry, most are only proficient with one or two weapons systems and familiar with maybe three more. It isn't exactly strange to find people proficient in three or more weapons systems, but you can usually count the ones in your company on the fingers of one hand.

Okay.....literally zero evidence of any sort to back that up.

There is a military history in the family. There is a burial flag on their bookshelf in the living room.

Given the pre-war history the family would probably be unique not to have lost a family member in the war with China, or the occupation of Canada, or the insurrections in the US itself.

You survive 200 years in the vault, then you find out your son is alive, as a ghoul. You cure him from being a ghoul.

There is only one known cure for Ghoulism........so are you going to shoot him or use a bladed weapon...explosives, flamethrower maybe?

Aurthur Maxson shows up and all hell breaks loose. The end....

Okay.........not sure if this post was meant as a joke.

There's no way the protagonist is over 40. This conversation is over. You are contributing nothing, only flooding this thread with irrelevant replies.
