The Spear Embargo

Umm what does 'they own the forum' have to do with anything anyone said? Maybe you would like to reassess your statement's lack of connnection to anything germaine?

Paw-Prints's statement was that the people who complain about spears, levitation, and all of Oblivion's faults owned the forum. In other words, the people who criticise Oblivion are in the majority. That's what Paw-Prints's comment had to do with anything "germaine". Greer or otherwise.

Edit: Apostrophes.

I heard that there is a mod that adds spears with the motion of a staff.

1999, I fail to see why you enter my join date in my quote.

I've been around since '01, back on the way older forums, so if you're trying to demean me by any tactic of using a new-comer philosophy, please feel free to digress. AND the fact that I saw you conclude nothing in particular about my quote. It's not even a matter of taste, I think it's a real business strategy that people need to learn. You just can't pump out games like everyone seems to like doing these days. MADDEN '13, IN THE YEAR 2008! YEAHHHH! And by the end of the year, we'll have Madden '14, and you know what? Just like every damn predecessor, it'll svck becuase it'll be the same old thing with no damn ingenuity behind it. Same with every damn war shooter out there. It's just a matter of appealing to the little [censored]-headed kids who scream till they turn blue for the new HALO 3 EDITION X-BOX 360!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOW. Bah.

I agree with you completly. I know that gaming companies need money, and thus they rush new games, but I always think that they should not care about the money over everything else. I wanna see a company that is most devoted to the story and quality of their games. I don't know about you all but that is what attracted me to TES, the freakin' amazing story!

They haven't made anything.. yet. But the game they currently working on looks really good to me - it's called Age of Decadence. You can check it out yourself http://www.irontowerstudio.com/.

Maybe we were in different parts of the Forum at different times Albides - what I saw went down the other way.

Nomad, did you read what I wrote?
I was responding to Nomad's post (he was not around under this id at the time) and others previous paw-prints:
Sure I was responding to your post on the basis of what I knew of you and I also allowed fo rthe fact that you could likely have been around for longer based on your feel for the Lore = there was no insult offered.

As for the commercial side of it - that's what I tried for so long and fought so hard to provide a counter to. The pressures that I met on the Forums here were tremendous and I felt that a lot of it was the would-be 'street-smart' types who saw a done-deal that they could use to score points off people on the basis of and maybe friends of people involved with the project from other companies even wanting to ensure things went the way they thought their pals needed.

Like I said the level of pressure was a thing of the moment - but massive at the time.

I'm willing to believe that things were easier here in the Lore Forum - but the main battle was in the General Forum - that was where the numbers were = where the outsiders could hope to sway things. Even though I made hundreds of friends over there at that time our numbers were never enough - for one thing, too many people just gave up and left. It may not have been a winnable battle over there.

spears, halberds, and other polearms probably didn't work out all that well with oblivion's combat system, since polearms aren't known for really close combat, and including the exclusion of calvary combat. with the majority of the spear attacks being thrusts, combat wouldn't be as consistent with the rest of the weapons. halberds could've worked, but would've been awkward.

or for the pessimist view, they couldn't decide how to fit them with blunt and blade.

aside from arena's, daggerfall's, and battlespire's 'flail your mouse like a madman' skill check combat, and morrowind's 'clickity click click' skill check combat, it looks like oblivion's combat will be the standard for the future titles. hopefully they can develop a deeper combat system that will incorporate more weapon styles, and martial training.

I was referring to right now. If Bethesda made those decisions public and submitted them for fan feedback, then they really are a mob of bloody idiots. I was under the impression that it was all a big surprise.

Not only that in order to use them optimally against any enemy that could survive more than one or two hits, you had to continually run backwards to keep them out of reach. Warhammers did much more damage and had reach comparable to that of spears. And spears are nearly useless when not thrusting.

But in Morrowind they were implimented VERY nicely. If you weren't stupid about it, you could keep out of reach of an enemy for quite some time while using a spear, and you wouldn't have to be running backwards for 2 hours. I've already said my peace on the issue, however.

The problem with spears in Morrowind is that there isn't enough variety. Not all weapon materials (materials = bonemold, steel, ebony) have spears/halberds. Some, like steel, iron, and dwemer (sorry, dwarven) have spear and halberd, but most sets only have one or the other. Also, there are far fewer pre-enchanted polearms than weapons of other types (long blade, blunt, axe, etc). I suppose spears and bows got the short ends of the sticks.

You mean to tell me you don't play with Always Use Best Attack on? The useless flailing applies to almost every weapon and was one of the combat's biggest flaws.
