The spread of SMG's and AR's is way too high

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 1:06 pm

The result of a firefight needs to be decided by the aim of the players, not a random number generator.

The spread of SMG's and AR's needs to be significantly lowered. I constantly feel like slamming my face on the desk because even tho my aim is directly at the enemy's head, only 1 in 5 bullets hit it from medium range. Skill is irrelevant in aiming at the moment.

Think about it, there are head shots in the game, yet you theoretically can not intentionally shoot someone in the head with an SMG unless you're standing right next to him, because the spread is so high.

Get better at burst fire.

Don't just hold the trigger and expect to win. Controlled bursts will gun down a target MUCH more efficiently. Only spray at point-blank, or when there's a lot of targets.

Also, SMGs are designed to be close range weapons, dont try hitting a target across the map with them.

Are you hip-firing or ADSing? I have no problems taking out 2-3 enemies with one clip of an smg when I ADS

I hit across the map with them.. But, not always.. only the Galactic and the CARB can do that..

I usually use that.. AP with the 25 round clip in it? That one seems to kill FAST! Love that gun for far range with burst fire.

My advice.. just get better. Get use to crouching before you shoot long distance. all the mechanics of being a one man army is all there in the game.. you just have to learn how to use it.

Bump that up for the Galactic, and even moreso when you're using High Capacity Magazines.

yeah i can usually nail 4-5 of my bullets when I ADS and burst fire. at least 2 of those is hitting your noggin and thats at med range, at close range its usually a 2 burst kill on the majority of my targets.

Just takes practice on the aiming. I have been playing FPSs for a long time back but skipped the current generation (COD and HAlO, etc) so i did not get many bad habits :)

You have to burst with ARs. The Rhett AR is a machine that does serious damage. But overall, yeah I agree. The spread for ARs is way over the top.

As far as SMGs go, they are extremely accurate to the point where all you have to do with them is fire from the hip and it's instant win.

That is the main point here. SMGs are fine since they are close combat weapons. ARs are not perfect weapons but, "Versatile"! Stop trying to make every weapon perfected and think how they suppose to work logically.

Again, I digress! This is not COD!

SMG seems more then fine. How ever I do question the mechanics behind the AR's.. Burst firing does not help much, you can fire 8 mabye 9 rounds ( in 3 shoot bursts) before the bullest just start flying completly randomly... Personally I hate the AR's theyr completly useless to me.

Have you guys even tested the spread?

Firing single shots once every half second with an SMG from about 5 meters away from a wall with ADS will give you a spread pattern larger than the chest of a player...

Now tell me that isn't stupid gameplay design. This is what the elitist are talking about when they speak of "catering to casuals."

What's wrong with catering to casual players? I'm one myself I play for the reason I bought the game: for fun. It's not stupid gameplay design it was a choice. And a choice you don't like apparently. Catering to the casual is how it should be.

Actually i did. Escort duty from the grating system to the wall for mid range and from the corner of same grating system to the far wall past the green zone for the longer range to test spread. Some SMG have different spread so maybe try a few of them and see which one feels right to you. At the listed ranges I tested I can hit a spot 3 out of 5 times and many times even 4-5 times.

Seems fine to me.

Which SMG are you using?

And what attachments do you have?

Both of those answers make a HUGE difference to the spread.

This

HE DOES EXIST!!!!

I wondered when I'd see you again...

How's the Light Op thing going? As well as you expected? And to have at least some on-topic-ness, what would your SMG of choice be?

I'd actually recon the spread for SMGs should be upped a little. Or the ammo-stock should be significantly lowered.
Anyway, the Tampa SMG aside, they're all extremely accurate from the hip. Absolutely no need for ADS.

For assault rifles, ADS is kind of a must.
Except for the Rokstedi and Gerund (I think). The latter is deadly accurate from the hip when you use a grip.

The more you use them the more you can feel their defined roles.
I think they're fine.

I've never come across that problem. I find rifles and smgs to be incredibly accurate. Only with the rifle do I need to keep burst firing whereas with smg its super accurate but low damage over range.

No one does this online so try again. No matter what the distance, once I start getting hit it is a steady stream of red blood stains on my screen until I'm down.
No one burst fires online because they know they will most likely lose a firefight.

1. Sure, because you never have to burst-fire a weapon on CoD when firing on distance targets.
2. Older games (like Doom) are hardly known for their recoil.
3. The last 4 Battlefield games always had good recoil, and were current generation. If you skipped those, you're a tool.

I hate it when people get superior about old vs. new games <_<

Well if you want to actually control your weapon's spread, take my advice.

If you want to do what the cool kids are doing, keep spraying and praying. When you keep dying because of it, don't say I didn't try.
