Anyways I've been waiting for NV to come out so I could do a small mod with it inspired by The Stand. There are many routes you could go with this but I've decided it would be a good idea to do a side story, it allows for a much smaller scope and more creative freedom. I'm looking to work with some people on it - read the description below if you are interested.
Description
In this mod you would be a "hero/ine" that is recruited by Flagg to do a series of tasks, in which he evaluates you into becoming a member of his inner circle. Much like Lloyd was, but on a smaller scale. The tasks will range from as simple as killing coyotes (rub a dub dub - thanks for the grub), to interacting with people, both fighting and conversations - these might have choices involved for the player - some of these moral ones. Mother Abagail could talk to you in (day)dreams giving you good moral advice, and Flagg would be there to convince you to do bad. These small tasks would lead up to a major mission which would be to track down the 3rd spy they sent from Boulder, Tom Cullen - because when Flagg tries to see him in a vision "all (he) can see is the Moon!"
Even though this mod would take place outside of the Fallout universe, it's not nearly as ambitious as doing a Total Conversion, and I think even less scope than trying to create a new area. Essentially all the major props for this are in the game already. The player might start in NCR:CF and be broken out by Flagg - from there he would go from objective to objective in the open world, but it can still be a linear sequence. We can use what's there in the map for natural boundaries and add "wall triggers" to keep the player on track (if you enter a wall trigger Flagg will appear behind you in conversation mode and threaten you to get back to the mission, if you persist he appears again and kills you We can use the same weapons, NPC models etc, heck they even have a Crow for Flagg This would essentially be like designing a dungeon with some NPC dialog.
Who I'm looking for
Just looking for one person to start out with, someone who knows the ins and outs of the GECK with decent competence. I have plenty of design and scripting experience (see below), just not much with GECK. I have a 2d/3d artist as well as a FoleyFX/Voice actor that are ready to jump in and help if this launches. It's possible I'll want to recruit more people later but for the early stage I want to keep it small.
My Background
I've been around the mod community long enough to know many many projects start with great ambitions and ultimately fall flat on their face, mainly due to lack of scope control and poor planning. For this reason people are skeptical about new projects. I just want to give a little background about me and my experience to show I'm not just some kid with a dream
I've been doing game design as a hobby for a lot of my life, I've worked with several level editing packages from Duke3d to CryEngine3, and I've been working professionally as a designer and producer for about one year using Unity. I've used the GECK when Fallout came out, but didn't do much more than create a small dungeon as I was working with CryEngine at the time.
I am a decent scripter, visually and in code, know my way around 3dsMax for modeling/texturing buildings/basic objects, know how to do lighting in a scene using Unreal3 and Unity3 both direct and lightmapped, know how to write branching dialog and quests, and know how to manage a project successfully
Here is a bit of my work:
Dialog system written with visual scripting for CryEngine: http://www.moddb.com/mods/cyberpunk-fpsadventure-naming-in-progress/videos/dialog
Puzzle game called Tantrix made in Unity3 - (current project WIP): http://www.openmicgames.com/Tantrix3d/WebPlayer.html
If you're interested in collaborating please PM or email me, I think this could be really great! :foodndrink:
