The Statue Lies...

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 1:37 pm

After the MQ is completed a statue is erected in Bruma for your defeat of the Great Gate. It is supposed to show the armor and weapons you had equipped when you won. I made a character with the explicit purpose of making that statue (mostly the purpose). I finish the MQ and go to Bruma to find that the statue has me holding stuff I never owned. I used a Steel Claymore all through the MQ and the statue shows me holding an Akaviri Katana and a Legion Shield. I didn't even join the Blades so I never has a Katana and I used a 2H weapon so why the shield? Anyone else have this problem?

I thought it took the best items from your inventory.

Exactly. The statue was created with the Katana because it's a better weapon than the Steel Claymore.

If you want to control what weapons and armor appear on that statue, you have to remove anything else from your inventory before going back to Cloud Ruler after the battle

Wait scratch that, Baurus died during the fight so once I closed the gate I took it, but that doesn't explain the shield I didn't have

Are you absolutely sure you didn't have a shield of some kind in your inventory? Something you had looted and not yet sold, perhaps?

Or picked up off a dead legionary. Or maybe the statue required a default shield for the empty hand.

I went straight through the MQ, and I didn't have a legion shield. I had Legion armor but no shield. I know because when I was deciding between 2H and 1H I thought: "The Imperial Dragon Armor doesn't have a shield and the legion one won't match"

It's not based on your inventory when you win the Battle of Bruma. It's set based on the inventory you have when you enter the hall at Cloud Ruler Temple afterwards to talk to Martin. At least it's supposed to be. And it will pick whatever gear it thinks is best in your inventory, not what you have equipped. But if you didn't have those things in your inventory at that point in the quest, I don't know where it got them from.

Well, usually people pick up Valdemar's Shield in Sancre Tor.

If not, t's a mystery.

Incidentally, the Escutcheon of Chorrol goes pretty well with the Dragon Armor. :)

Derp, I didn't see that bright green font :pinch: Sorry!

But darn, I was gonna give you a link to a mod that will let you alter your statue with any attire you please. That is still odd about your situation though.

Had a thought: What if you activate a Bound Armor spell before you enter Cloud Ruler Temple?

My last character who closed the Great Gate played around with the statue creation for several hours, trying various clothes, armor, jewelry, but I didn’t change weapons. She had only a Daedric bow and Elven arrows and that’s what the statue got. On the clothes part, well my character didn’t wear any during that time in her game. When the statue was created, the game equipped it with a default shirt and pants of some sort. That’s when I started experimenting with the statue. I ended up equipping some mod jewelry trinkets that fit the cuirass and greaves slots and the statue was happy with that. I would venture to guess that the shield problem is either a default slot filler or the character actually had a shield in inventory. You have to drop about everything from inventory or the game will equip it.

I still have all my old saves about the statue.

Also what determines the items that won't look like stone? I know the Crusader's relics never look like stone and at first the Mace of Molag Bal did look like stone but I left and then returned to find it looking just like the real thing (even the blue enchanted glow)

I opened up Save 4867 from the wayback time just after the Great Gate was closed and did a little experimenting on the statue without a shield.

Don’t know what happened in your game, but the shield slot doesn’t seem to be filled by default.

Please excuse quick made screenshots.

Yes, it seems my character is a little dyslexic (she didn’t read the game instructions) and is otherwise messed up. She’s holding the torch in the wrong hand, you see.

I always thought it was kind of freaky that the statue is actually a living copy of your character with the AI disabled.

Beat the MQ about 4 times before I found it. Always heard the citizens in bruma say "you look just like your statue" and I would respond "where is this fabled statue?". Finally saw it one day

Okay I am about to do the battle of Bruma on the restarted character. Opinion's wanted: Should I use a Silver Claymore or a Fine Steel Claymore? They both look awesome and either would look great with my Legion armor for the statue
