The Steam Controversy

I apologize if there is an open topic on this. If so, please direct me to the thread. I have done a search, but all topics discussing this have been locked. I'm not trying to start a huge debate on who likes Steam and who doesn't or I would have titled it, "The Steam Room". I think most of us can agree that there are both positive and negative things about Steam. What I would like to say is that I do not believe that Steam should be forced on anyone to play a single player game. I should not ever be required to have an Internet connection for a single player game. I'm not against Steam. Some people really like the service, but it should not be a requirement. My hope is that Skyrim will be like Oblivion and FO3. You could get the game on Steam, but it was not a requirement to play. In the past, Bethesda has been one of the better game companies out there when it comes to DRM, a simple disc check. It's also worth noting that Bethesda has comented in the past on this issue and said, "We do not believe in draconian forms of DRM." Well, maybe they've changed their stance on this issue, if Steam becomes a requirement. This issue is not a matter of wether Steam is good or bad. It's a matter of someone telling the customer to install something they don't need. It's a matter of someone telling you what you can and cannot do with your own computer. That's the real issue.
So, I'd like to hear everyone's thought's on this. Do you think this is what Bethesda will do?...or will it be more like what they did with Oblivion/FO3?...and how do you feel about it? Again, this is not a bash Steam thread, its about consumer rights and making choices available to paying customers.

The last topic http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1163469-an-easy-solution-to-this-steam-controversy/ which was closed with a request to give it all a rest. You can read through the previous topic as it is linked from that one.
