The Sword In The Stone

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 3:44 pm

Wouldn't it be cool to see a majestic sword buried in a rock? I think it would be a nice easter egg in Skyrim.

I would want an inscription on the base saying "Whatever man possesses the strength of 100 shall be the rightful bearer of this sword and king of Skyrim." This would be a cruel joke referencing the removal of attributes. It could even have "Take" written next to it upon cursor-over, further taunting us when it didn't budge.

Does anyone else want to see this in Skyrim?

Too bad I thought of it first! Haha, I made a list of easter eggs I'd want to do for the game a few months ago (Sword in the Stone included). I like your idea!

Not an Easter egg per se, but I wouldn't mind seeing a direct reference.

I'm strictly against it unless we can pull it out of the stone.

Why? It has so much potential as a cruel removed attributes joke!

Off-topic: Anyone else try pulling The Sword In The Stone at Disneyland?
I tugged on that thing until my arms almost fell off... :cryvaultboy:

I'm more of a fan of the less famous legend Stone in the Sword. Break sword, get stone, place stone in keyhole, and finally enjoy the loot behind the door. There's said to be enough to buy your own kingdom in there!

Or we could just go with the Spear in the Stone which can't be pulled out just to mess with people.

I would rather row a boat to the middle of the lake to receive a powerful sword from the Lady of the Lake like when King Arthur was given Excalibur. The sword in the stone would be an excellent easter egg because legend says that the sword in the stone was never used in battle and was basically, a useless sword. Therefore, the easter egg sword should have the stats of a regular steel sword in my opinion. Anyway, back to my study of the Hist.

I remember when fable did this near the Temple of Avo. You had to have full physique to get the sword out. It would be funny to see little easter eggs like this throught the game.

Since that varies from version to version of the legend they can't get it right at least for everyone who has read a little Arthurian mythos.
Anyway no. Easter Eggs aren't meant to be obvious and a sword in a stone is going to be obvious.

This is not the first idea of a sword in a stone. I think it's a good one but instead of a sword it could be the upper part of a spear.

How is it overdone? Other than the Disney movie and "The Once And Future King", I don't think I've seen it referenced much. I think Monty Python had a movie that featured it, but that was a long time ago.

Fable had it, but Fable svcks so we can ignore that. :vaultboy:

Fable the lost chapters was a good game in my opinion what ever Peter M said to hype the game up I still loved the game as a kid. Fable 2 and 3 on the other hand ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Useless Comment is Useless.
Be more creative next time.

On-Topic: I'd love to see it just so I could curse at Skyrim everytime I ran into it. It'd be funny to make all the stats on it horrible for the modders that actually decided they wanted it. :)

No spears in the game. If they made it part of the scenery, then why wouldn't they go the whole hog and make weapons.

I've never heard of 99% of those things mentioned, so I don't personally consider it overdone. Some of the ones I did recognize were inaccurate in that it isn't like The Sword In The Stone (Like the Manni Katti in Fire Emblem). The Master Sword from The Legend Of Zelda is the only one I'm really familiar with.
