The Talos Question and the Blood of the Divine

Post » Sun Jul 14, 2013 7:41 pm

I'm playing a round of Oblivion and this just occurred to me: In order to open the portal to reclaim the Amulet of Kings, Martin needed the blood of a divine. Well, most of us know where the blood of the divine was found.

Since Martin's solution worked, I should think it would settle once and for all the divinity question regarding Talos.

I am sure that others have already thought of this, discussed this, etc., but I had to post it.

Talos is a God, the Thalmor don't like it.

Some additional evidence of Talos' divinity can be found in Knights of the Nine.

There's also the simple fact that blessings from Shrines to Talos actually work.

Altmer just do not want to believe that man whom they consider to be no more than beasts, can achieve divinity.

Only people who havent played previous elder scrolls games or those who dont know much about lore thinks he is not a god.

And i dont think there is anyone here who questions Talos being a god.

They mainly hate that he's helping the fact that they can't reach their previous 'divine' state like they used to be before Lorkhan.

To be perfectly honest, I don't see why Talos prevents them from reaching their divine state. He's not the only god, and I don't see any way for him to manually mantle Lorkhan at his leisure. He didn't ascend to godhood by caressing the heart or something, and his divinity is different than Tribunal's: Talos don't have to access the heart every so often

It's not that.

1,000 year old Thalmor wizards were there when Talos' Dwemer giant robot completey censored their home province.

I'd want him erased from existence too. And I do.

It's because they lost Crystal-Like-Law. The Crystal Tower fell to Dagon's hordes when they assaulted the Isle during the Oblivion Crisis, and it fell. Their iconic link to their ancestors was no more. So the Thalmor, like the National Socialists did before in Germany when their national identity was ravaged, seized the opportunity.

Honestly, the banning of Talos seemed more like a political maneuver to me. Nothing helps to spread hatred and dissent than attacking someone's religion and political views. The banning of Talos fueled the Stormcloak movement with a (in my opinion) legitimate reason to revolt. I'm not blaming the Empire for that decision, but I also don't blame the Stormcloaks for rebelling against it. It was a nasty situation, and the Thalmor knew it.

I agree & a very strategic move by the AD, who in my opinion are slowly but surely succeeding in bringing an end to the empire.

Do I dare say Skyrim-Hammerfell alliance in the near future? Just a thought.

That is true. But the idea of a man becoming divine must be repulsive to the Thalmor also.

What's strategic about pissing off half of the Nords in Skyrim?
If Skyrim and Hammerfell united then the Dominion would be stomped into dust...which I think is a likely lore thing to stop them unless someone pulls out a Numidium type of power or ressurects Ysgramor and the boys to do them like their Snow Elf kin ;)
