The Technology of Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:34 am

Well, since 200 years has passed since Oblivion, has anyone tried recreating the Dwemer technology on a larger scale? We seen the crashed Airship in the Bloodmoon expansion in Morrowind, but I'd imagine after another 200 years people have had to make progress in one way or another?

Or are the Dwemer creations regarded as "atrocities" considering how they (the Dwemer) all disappeared, and no one knows why?

No. Skyrim is like the Africa of Tamriel at the moment.

Hopefully tech hasn't advanced at all. I'd rather not see it.

This. Even though it's 200 years later, it still has a ruggish/brutish feel to it.

Any type of sword and sorcery fantasy and to much technology usually don't mix well. Tamriel has thousands of years i believe with no substantial advancements, it is kind of like being stuck in the dark ages in some ways. However I agree that some of the lost dwemer technology should be seen they just need to keep it within reason.

To expect guns, complex machines or steam powered vehicles like trains like some people might because of 200 years just means that 4 games from now if 400 years have passed Tamriel would be in the space age.

Even though being locked in time technology wise is not real world( even though it happened and actually regressed for 500+ years) Tamriel is not real world. So yeah I would like to see more Dwemer machines but not over the top is all

Same here myself. I've always found the Dwemer and their disappearance to be some of my favorite parts to the games lore. Hopefully we'll get to find out more about them once November gets it's butt here.

Its gone backwards. The Nords of Solstheim had crossbows but apparently their more advanced kin in Skyrim don't

I don't mean anything like automobiles or guns, but we've already seen airships being created (not to mention the hostile steam centurions they left behind), and we know the Dwemer did even more advanced things. I see no reason to not show SOME sort of use of the Dwemer technology. And it's not like it's pure technology in terms of mechanical things, the Dwemer also used lots of magic in their creations.

I dont see what technology would be appropriate. I mean, if you draw parallels with medieval times, there wasn't many major advancements (Scientific, Philosophical, Technological, etc.) that were accepted by the government. All I can think of off hand is cannons, haven't seen any of those.

Yeah, and there was that guy in the Isles that was trying to create a Sky boat. ;)

The Dwemer tech. Which, like I said earlier, they also used magic in their creations. It's already been shown and used from airships, to the "robots" that guard their ruins, to Keening/Sunder/Wraithguard. I can't imagine NO ONE attempting to utilize this in some way.

The one reason i quit Age of Empires III was the advancement of gunpowder age, I preferred the dark/middle ages with most games and I hope Skyrim will not be one of those games with guns, I'm cool with Windmills but no more.

I could care less about guns, but, again, I can't imagine NO ONE trying to make the Dwemer Centurions servants (this was actually done in the Telvanni House missions in Morrowind, you get these to defend your stronghold), or trying to build another airship, or even a mechanical city (such as the Clockwork city of Sotha Sil).

And I'm not saying that I would necessarily WANT this stuff in this particular game, but rather, am curious to know if it's going on SOMEWHERE on Tamriel during this games particular time period.

But wouldn't it feel out of place in Skyrim regardless of it being logical to be there?

Perhaps. I mean, if Dwemer ruins are in the game, I would like to see excavation camps at least. I don't see how people COULDN'T be interested in this race and their creations. I'd also expect to see some of the more religious groups of Nords(as well as the other races) to be against using their technology for one reason or another though.

That could be potentially interesting. I wouldn't mind the tech as much if they actually developed why it's there.

I wanna see some of the redguard cannons, clip a dragon's wings with a 15 lb ball of iron. If I were to see any new technology in skyrim it would be in the form of dwemer creations like their airships and giant magically-animated centurions.

I think it would too. Like I said though, I don't really need to SEE it going on, but would definitely like to see it referenced in quests or books. And would LOVE to get the chance to find out more about the Dwemer, again, either in books or quests.

I would certainly love to find out some tidbits of info regarding the Dwemer along with some previously unknown interesting artifacts.

I'd rather not see any myself. I'd rather see it stay a medieval world. Besides, those who say it is unnatural for technology to stay essentially static are wrong. Up until the industrial revolution, there was very little evolution in technology at all. Lack of education and civil unrest can also prevent new developments.

Considering the empire is in a decaying state rulers might get desperate despite their fears and tempt the fates by researching Dwemer technology and thus calling forth a curse from ages forgotten. Who knows what lost races wait in the threshold shadows of time for that split moment when some door of magic and science grants them access into our world and escape from warping madness eternal.

Airships in Tamriel... that'd be the day. I'm not even too opposed to it. It maintains the fantasy feel of the game, but NOT in Skyrim. It should be in a future game, maybe summerset, or in a game in that takes place in the past when the dwemer were around (if they ever make any more "Elder Scrolls Adventure" games).
