The TESO Lore Questions and Concerns Thread #5

Post » Wed Dec 19, 2012 9:16 am

It's been a day or so and nobody jumped on this, so I guess it's my turn.

Notable and rather siginificant Lore concerns to date-
- The 2nd Era Cyrod Jungle was apparently a 'transcription error' despite multiple written sources claiming otherwise.
- The Aldmeri Dominion is being presented as a watered-down faced variant of it's former self. Where it's water face is a mystery. Ayrenn is a tainted Altmer and yet she is the ruler of the Dominion. Seems odd that. I would
Imagine Altmer historians would want to call her a 'transcription error'. Maybe that is why we never heard of her eh? Struck from the archives for good measure!
-New addition, Khajiit subspecies are not anywhere to be found at launch. Only the Suthay-Raht will be playable AND well, see-able.
-Blanking at the moment about the other ones. I will get to them in due time. Yes unfortunately there are others.

Bit of a minor update, but they posted a http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2012/12/17/creating-eso-the-dreugh yesterday about the dreugh. Fairly standard stuff abounds, they'll be native to Morrowind, they're hinting that we might actually see water dreugh again, but then there's also this:
Dreugh, according to legend, were once more intelligent and civilized than they are presently. Mankar Camoran's Mythic Dawn Commentaries makes reference to Dreugh-Kings, but protracted conflict with the Dunmer (who harvest the dreugh for their hides and wax) has caused them to devolve further and further. The dreugh were said to worship a creature known as the Ruddy Man, which is believed to be a manifestation of Molag Bal.
Emphasis mine. I can't decide whether this is more or less interesting to me than the "kalpic remnants" theory, which this basically blows out of the water (pun intended). Personally, I think it feels a little too similar to the fate of the Falmer for my tastes.

I do wonder if they'll do anything interesting with the fact that the dreugh worship Molag Bal, the key to TESO's whole plot. Probably not, since it seems like they're going for more of a "mindless beasts" angle, but the fact that they even acknowledge that little bit of obscure lore is promising.

My friend wanted TES: O to be first person. Ha, check him.

Anyway, I haven't bothered reading anymore since they announced to me personally that Cyrodiil being a jungle is a transcription error. Have there been any more extremely stupid things since then? I'm taking this as though it's a story being told, don't know who the narrator is though.. Like The Hobbit, they managed it extremely well, but as soon as it's Zenimax Online, pooft! Any sense has gone. I also think a fallout MMO is inevitable, they wouldn't make a whole official studio just for one game.

Well the Mythic Dawn Commentaries does say that the Dregh ruled the ocean world, with Molag bal as thier emperor, and were beat by Dagon and the slaves of the Dreugh.

The slaves of the dreugh could be some past Kalpa Dunmer, I mean, Nords eixst throughout Kalpas why not other races.

Hmm... this dreugh notice is at least a step in the right direction, albeit with feet which are tentative to acknowledge it and not yet built to continue along the true path. It looks, to me, as if the Dunmer-devolution accidental lore rewrite is simply misinformed, rather than poor design choice (buildings out of poetry etc). We can't expect everyone to be able to tie together hints in the 36 Sermons, Mythic Dawn Commentaries and Song of Pelinal. They at least tried. However, it would probably have been better if they kept themselves to the physiology and life cycle of the Dreugh. That's plenty interesting in itself, and less likely to result in contradictions with lore (after all, they've proven themselves unready to accept MK's existence so far).
