The textures are abysmal

I would even go as far too say that at times some of these textures are no better looking than Morrowind. (PS3 gamer)

This is cos the snow is applied procedurally. Also due to console memory limitations.

I only have 1GB v-ram so I'm not sure if the HD would work on my rig. I'm currently running on Ultra+ (.ini tweaked) and getting good performance but I think thats because this game is heavy on the CPU and not the GPU, because my GPU is proably the weakest component in my rig (Radeon 5870 1GB). Is it possible to use only the snow textures from the HD mod? Or is it an installer and not a zip full of textures?

On the PC it looks fine by default. The HD textures add something, but not all of them look good. One of htem had new wooden textures that made them look like factory made while the original textures had a more natural look. Sure it's less crisp, but at least it looks man made and not machine made. I haven't seen the PS3 version, but this is always an issue. On consoles many games just don't look as good as it should (both XBOX and PS3). Games like Final Fantasy look awesome, but games like TES and Halo just look plain awful. Even Fallout looked orible on consoles. Low textures and bad lighting (everything was dark!). Also Dragon Age was awful on consoles. So yeah. You want a game to look good, get it for PC! With or without HD packs from modders it just looks far better.

There really just needs to be a texture pack that does NOTHING but replace the low end res textures with textures that fit in line with the rest. Not all of us want/need/can use 2k-3k res textures on every freaking object, seeing as 90% of gpu's use 1gb of vram, 2k textures on everything is limited only to the 10% of users. (Default textures use only 500-600mb of vram, so there is easily room for fixing just the worst textures.)

In order not to have horrible textures it should have been developed on the PC only. Just saying.

All that console pride and superiority goes right out of the window when people start complaining about anything that is the result of hardware limitations.

I think the textures look fine. I'm very happy with the way Skyrim looks on my PS3.

Well for one, most of us on pc bought it via steam. I could prove the other statements wrong as well, but meh, whats the point in arguing this?

I doubt it's solely hardware limitations. Final Fantasy 13 for instance looks 100 times better than Dragon Age, TES: Oblivion, TES: Skyrim and Fallout. This has nothing to do with hardware limitations, but engine limitations on said hardware. It all boils down to how it is programmed and how you can get the most out the machine. If I'm saying it's Bethesda's own doing, then that's what I'm saying. Don't blame the console when other games look fantastic on them.

Wow.. I don`t know if there is much difference between PS3 and Xbox 360, because it looks stunning on my Xbox version...it`s without doubt the best looking game i`ve played on my console.
I thought Two Worlds 2 looked nice on it until I got Skyrim. I haven`t patched the game past 1.0 yet as some people mentioned about drawing distance being affected etc.

Same here on my PS3. Don't really see what the OP sees.

It's a combination of factors. Skyrim has to have a lot of assets on the screen at one time, due to being open world. I think they are pushing the limits of what the Xbox can do, myself.

It has everything to do with hardware limitations. You can hide ugly textures by fancy FX or improve them slightly by doing that horrible streaming thing, but you can't fit more than 512 mb into a 512 mb memory pool. Period.

On PC, this will be fixed completely in a short time.

Enjoy.

Console: I'm sorry.
