If Oblivion stayed true to the Lore, then the Dark Brotherhood would have been following Mephala, not Sithis. What they could say they are is that they are tools of Sithis. Tools of Limitation and End. Almost as if they were Sithis themselves. That is why they could keep the name the Black Hand. However, the whole reason behind their murdering goes completely against lore.

As it was said before, Sithis is an ideal. A name given to personify and give a measure of undertanding to something that is complex and hard to understand. Sithis is endless nothing. Sithis is limitation. Sithis is the opposing force of Anuiel. Without Sithis, there would be no world. There would be no universe. That is why the Dark Brotherhood should be so valued in an Elder Scrolls game.

My DB knowledge in Morrowind is still hazy at the moment, but I DO remember that the Night Mother WAS a person in MW and I'm not sure it was explicitly stated that the DB followed Mephala.

What happened to Mehrunes Dagon being the daedric patron of the Dark Brotherhood? Was that retconned, just completely thrown out of the window, or what?

They entered into an alliance with Mehrunes Dagon's worshippers in Morrowind to shelter them from the Morag Tong and probably provide bases of operations. After all, they had just returned to Vvardenfell, and they knew that without help, the Morag Tong would slaughter them.

Back in MW there was no indication of the Dark Brotherhood worshipping Sithis.

According to the wiki, the Dark Brotherhood does in fact worship Sithis. Even though Sithis is not an official deity, they still worship him as their patron. Sithis is their creedo and their principle, as well as their base of worship. In other words, the Dark Brotherhood worships death, or rather Padomay; the opposing force of Anuiel (chaos, limitation, negation, nothing, etc.) The Night Mother is their mediator between the comissioners and the assassins. She is also their moderator.

This was not made very clear at all in TESIV. If it was explained, it's presentation was poor. Also, the members of the Dark Brotherhood, to put it quite frankly, were idiotic and svcked. They were too much in love with themselves and I believe someone put it so eloquently as to say that "they think they are all cool because they discovered sadism." How lame is that?

Now Talos isn't necessarily an Aedra. He is an et'Ada. He is a divine spiritual entity revered as a god by the Cyrodiilic pantheon. To put it simply, the Nine Divine aren't all Aedra. They are all the et'Ada associated with Anuiel, but because Tiber Septim was not always divine, he is not an Aedra.

I may have the whole et'Ada/ Aedra thing mixed up, in which case just replace Aedra with et'Ada and vice versa. If someone would be willing to help me out here, I would appreciate it.

From the outside, nobody will notice the difference. It's as if it didn't happen. I actually expect that once the player has completely become Sheogorath, Jygallag will show up to take his realm. After all becoming Sheogorath means becoming Jygallag.

Have you been reading the thread? You're more or less correct, and the idiot part could be interpreted as his insentience. Sithis is a force, no one can perceive energy, yet we know it exists because it affects our reality, we feel the effects of a car being low on gas, that it converts into energy.

If there were no friction, a top spinning in space, would spin infinitely. Sithis is the entropy, the decay of that tops' spinning. You know Sithis 'Exists' because he causes things not too.

Sithis gives shape to stasis. Gives limitation and with that, form, assisted by Akatosh. There you have it.
