Eyes of the world?

The Eye of the World will not serve you.

if this is the second tallest in tamrial, and red mountain is the tallest... anybody else think Red Mountain was not all that tall? in fact, i'm pretty sure, mneasure in game units, that most peaks in TES IV: Oblivion were taller that Red mountain in morrowind...

One step comes in at 6 trigons, not beveled, with invisible side and bottom cut off. Times 7,000 that comes out to 21,000 polygons, which is perfectly manageable, especially if split up over several dozen cells. After that its just placing it all.

Psst: You're supposed to wait for a lack of response before posting that part. But then again, if had waited, you would've lost your ability to insult everyone. Obviously, you couldn't have that now could you?

I'm of the opinion that anyone that actually takes offense to the referenced sarcastic comment is simply (to borrow one of your terms) mad. Thankfully, that's far from everyone.

Well, it depends if they're speaking about a mountain's height from its base to its tip, or from sea level to its tip. Generally it's the second, so the surrounding terrain can really cut down on the actual height of a mountain like Red Mountain. In the case of the Throat, it talks about steps, so you know they speak of the former as its measurement.

Secondly, as is the case with most games, they allot themselves a lot of freedom to bend the scale of the world to their whims. The size of the Throat (and steps to trod, for those that care) would change a lot if our current assumptions are for a Cyrodiil-sized worldspace and it actually turns out to be twice the size.

Those 7000 steps are for the riffraff. The Dovahkiin and the crippled use the elevators.

Psh, Dovahkiin simply screams "TOP!" and the mountain makes way.

maybe you cant climb it and the only way up is the stairs in that case they only need to make a detailed path 7000 steps and the top of course and just have the rest of the mountain detailed from below. from faraway the mountain can be covered with cloud and when walking to the top you obviously can see the whole mountain so there is no need to have a fully detailed mountain. If thats not doable which im sure Bethesda can do, it they can have a loading screen with a gate at the bottom.
besides if there is a quest line on it or even the main quest line would you want to walk 7000 steps to talk to a main character?

you are exaggerating way to much, bethesda will be able to make this, they're bethesda, they can do ANYTHING, and they made red mountain, and its bigger................................... a bit of a give-away right there

I remember something about a dragon breaking one of the stairs in the past. Wulf fixed it then, but maybe, with all the talk of dragons, the steps will be broken again.

Or maybe it will be scaled down, and the steps (which may number less than 7000) will wrap around it?

Edit: http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-five-songs-king-wulfharth is the book. Under Kyne's Son.

Red Mountain ingame is actually pretty tiny. How big they say it is does not correspond to how big the mountain is ingame. The Throat could actually be about the size of any mountain from Oblivion, and it wouldn't matter.

By probably not making 7000 steps, things tend to get scaled down anyway. XD

Hadn't thought of that.

There is something that just occurred to me: Isn't stuff like the Throat of the World, or the Heart of the World in reference to the region, not some big-ass mountain? Like, in Skyrim they have the people who use Thu'um, and in Morrowind you have (or had, rather) the Heart of Lorkhan?

Sarcasm doesn't always translate through text. I'd suggest using something like this next time:

Half of the mountain is under cloud level, once you reach half way the game loads the next area which continues to rise above the clouds, if someone ever accually walked there.

Imagine that mountain without fast travel/travel. Fuuuu

Red Mountain was obliterated; so yeah, the Throat of the World is the highest.

Correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't Red Mountain already erupted? isn't that why it's not super huge? "It is a small continent all to itself, riven from the rest of Morrowind by the remains of a colossal crater." (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Red_Mountain). "by means of a colossal crater." this quote to me screams that red mountain already went up and completely separated Vvardenfell from Morrowind. "The island was actually named after the volcano: the original name of Red Mountain was Vvardenfell"

Red Mountain did erupt once before, it's what separated Vvardenfell from the rest of Morrowind in the first place. Happened some time after the Dwemer disappeared and the Tribunal became gods. Red Mountain may be flowing with lava all the time (or was, rather), but when it actually erupts, Morrowind's stuff gets ruined.

They won't have 7,000 steps and people will complain about "breaking lore", like always.

With that height, I can see the peak rising above the clouds. Perhaps the peak is covered by clouds and after travelling thru dense clouds/fog, you come out of it to reach the summit. That would help with the graphics and would probably enrich the experience of traversing a mountain. It's going to have to be a day trip, or at least I hope it is. Should be a memorable experience, like seeing the water the first time in Seyda Neen, or the first time you see Manimarco in DF. This is a very important place in Skyrim and should be treated as such...sacred, holy etc.

Perhaps the character will be unable to climb the whole of it until DLC is released?

i guess they are just going to make it a little bit higher than the white gold tower so that its not too long to get up or its gonna be teleport through some door or something like that. but its nots that important to me to make it not teleport i mean i dont want to climb 4000 steps anyway

Man, if they are going to have 7,000 steps they'd better at least have a slinky skill.

*sings* every one loves a slinky, GO SLINKY GO!
