I'm throwing a 100 pound turtle shell on my back and delivering milk to the Greybeards, daily.

That's how you unlock the jump spell, right?

It would be cool to run into two children on the climb up, one a bald monk and the other a decendant of the Tang Mo people of Akavir, both carrying milk jugs up. :P It would make my climb worth while, that's for sure.

Looking over the Alduin's Wall at GameInformer, my eye was caught by the mention on Throat of the World. "7,000 steps must be climbed to reach the remote retreat." I haven't heard anything else regarding High Hrothgar in game, but I hope that this reference in GameInformer is an indication that we will actually have 7,000 steps to climb rather than a nod towards the lore.

So ignoring fast travel, my question to you is would you embrace the idea of climbing the steps considering it will take up a large amount of time? A lite-version of the stairs? A NPC "Are you ready to go yet?" transition? Or do you have your own idea?

He said in one of the vids that they were making sure there would actually be 7000 steps. Ya, it will take a while- but i'm going to use it as an opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the mountains. Besides- an escalator would be cheating :D

I may be wrong but I don't think it would take us much time at all to climb 7,000 steps in this game. Think about Oblivion. You could scales a flight of 10 steps in what, 1 maybe 2 seconds at the most. I don't think it will take long at all. I could be completely wrong.

The best part of the adventure is the journey most of the time...so yes, I will be climbing all 7000 steps.
I hope they don't cop out with something cheap

Todd already said they are putting in 7000 steps. I will happily cross all 7000.

Yeah he confirmed this in a interview with GI.

Yea and I'm sure they are going to make sure that all 7000 are there, I can't wait! The view from the top will be legendary.

If it takes 2 seconds for 10 steps, then that still means it would take over 20 minutes to climb to the top.

I really hope there's 7001...just so I can say "Its over 7000!!!!!"

I'll probably say it anyway...but that's beside the point.

You should absolutely have to traverse them, at least once. Personally I hope for twice, because where would it be more epic, cliched and awesome to fight a super-massive dragon than on High Hrothgar after fighting a few dragons as you desperately climb the 7000 stairs? I can just imagine it, especially if he talks to you...

i think there should be a gift shop at the bottom that sells grey beard dolls and later in the game they get a rare collectible called dovakiin.

A trophy/achievement is almost certain for ascending the 7000 steps.

Should give you 7000 gamerscore if youre on an xbox! :)

perhaps an epic battle similar to the sequence at the beginning of MK: Armageddon.
Just with more of an TES feel as opposed to an MK one. I would find it invigorating to have to fight your way up through a troop of bandits or something.

I believe it was confirmed in the podcast that it really is going to be 7000 steps (I think Todd even said he would be counting, though that may have been intended as a joke.) and I'm not going to complain about needing to climb them, after all, I'm quite certain that climbing High Hrothgar is going to mark an important even in the main quest, so it deserves some big dramatic advance, and it's not like you're going to have to do this regularly, it would be annoying if you did, but expect that once you get there, there will be a fast travel marker for the peak, so you'd only really need to climb the steps once, if need to visit it again in the future, you could skip that part if you so choose.

Yes to the 7000 steps! I'm going to be one of those people who actually counts the steps, then posts an angry topic saying how I only counted 6999 steps...
Edit: OMG I forgot the most important part! Search the Ventura dungeon and find the special slinky and drop it down those 7000 steps.

I definitely want to climb it. I'd like it to be a scripted event, where you go on and climb and there's these gales of wind and music accompanying you as you make your heroic ascent... It should give you the feeling that this is your true destiny, and when you reach the top the Greybeards will bow before you and speak your name... Thus you become the Dovakiin.

Of course, the name thing will be the same for everyone but mean something ceremonial in some language.

that's not a bad idea, but I wouldn't want to have a cinematic trigger every time I went there, I'd like to climb it on my own sometime (and count the steps of course, gotta make sure there's really 7000).

I'm not going to run up the steps, I'll walk. One step at a time. Epic.
