I think the Knights and the Taneth defense force are being wildly underestimated. A few cannons won't "negate Taneth's walls and defenses" just because they are there. I think the whole cannon thing is being overplayed as some kind of trump card.
"I've got 18th century cannons that nobody else can figure out, so your city is defenseless" is what I've been reading.
Edit: Furthermore, we need to consider the motivations of the soldiers. The Attackers are a bunch of desert camel-herds who are being kept from their livelihoods by a tyrant Yokeda who wants only slaughter. The defenders are fighting for their lives under the protection of the DIVINE CRUSADER, and will likely know that they are chosen by the gods depending on Tyr's speech craft.
On top of that, the knights are naturally suited and excel on the defensive

Ah lawd another wun dun' don' dit it: Cannons. Not playing them like they are the end all be all but they are the best advantage against the walls that have been toted about. When that advantage is brought up in conversation we naturally bring up our own which is to bombard the wall and wait until it collapses. Everyone seems focused on the cannons for some reason.
What really grabbed my attention was your part on motivation of the troops. Like Tidus said, a smaller portion of the Army are Bomlikar's nomads who have dominated other smaller nomad tribes and have become the most dominant tribe through their warcraft, his sister was the recently assassinated Roxanna. Empress of the Yokudan Empire and Princess of the Barca tribe, killing one of a faction's leader can have a hell of an affect on a group, before this may have been a war that did not directly affect Barca interests (solely the tribe) but now Barca blood has been shed, the blood of their Princess. These are also the same tribe of men who crucify thieves.
Being chosen by the Gods, ain't nothing like being led by the manifestation of one and having him be your leadership. While believed by some, the rumors are abound that the HoonDing guides Haroun, who actually is a manifestation of the HoonDing. Which actually makes him the best counter weapon to the Divine Crusader who I truly hope to see unleash the Holy bad ass.
Chosen by Gods...meh, we off that
Lead by Gods? Oh we're on that.
Might want to move on with the times guys, Ra Gada are in 2012 while Cyrods are stuck in 2011
And the Heroic-Figures trash talking begins, possibly to be accompanied by a classic-IBT historical discussion on the effectiveness of cannons?
I think he had the OB Mysticism avatar back in the SoS days didn't he?
