According to the wiki, it says in Daedric "The First" and "The Last".

Is there nothing else in the game to do with it? The Lore section has nothing on it either. It belonged to the evil dead guy. Lorgren Benirus.

Gameplay-wise, it doesn't do anything. Lore-wise, it contains the secret knowledge of how to turn oneself into a Lich. That's how Lorgren Benirus got to be how he was when you fought him.

Just one of those completely useless items that is still really cool anyway. Games in general need more of this kind of thing, imho.

Not completely useless. It'll get you a decent amount of coin. (450 if I remember).

I never sell unique stuff. I can't bring myself to do it. So now I have it in a display case in Battlehorn Castle.

Even unique weapons I usually keep.

The funny thing is, it shouldn't exist. Somewhere there was a very naughty Necromancer. The secret to becoming a Litch is a gift from the Worm God to his followers, and is not to be recorded. It's mentioned in a document you can find during one of the dark brotherhood dead drop quests.

The book contains the secret of how to turn yourself into a Lich. I know sounds cool but you can't read it
