a few games like deus ex, bloodlines etc.>skyrim>morrowind>millions upon millions of other games>oblivion>left over games.

i dont buy the argument that you always like the first of a series the best because this year two of my top five games of all time were toppled by sequels. i think skyrim is overall better than morrowind and i think that deus ex HR is overall better than the original game. it doesnt make sense that someone would ignore a new game that was better than a prequel.

i should note that if morrowind got a new combat system, a fresh coat of graphics paint and they changed stuff up so that i didnt know where literally every item in the game was then morrowind would beat skyrim easily.

Hating Oblivion is the new hipster these days.

Please, people have been hating Oblivion for years. Pretty much since it came out.

I started with Morrwind and like Skyrim better. I guess that makes me the exception that proves the rule.

Off topic, but this is a common misuse of the idiom "exception that proves the rule".

Started with Morrowind.

Love Morrowind, Oblivion was good enough (but made better with mods, and if it hadn't been for the fact it followed Morrowind it would have seemed better, if that makes sense), and love Skyrim.

I love Skyrim in a different way to Morrowind though, and they are both at the top of my list.

Btw I didn't hate the combat in Morrowind, coming from a background of table top pen & paper RPGs, and then AD&D based computer games like BG, it made perfect sense that if you're rubbish at a skill you miss a lot in combat. Still don't understand why some people view that as a major problem, it's a perfectly valid way of representing combat skill as character based, rather than player based. When it's more player based, you're moving away from RPG and into the Action genre. I "got" Morrowind combat, it seems many people just didn't understand what it was representing.

Yup, but that's the ones that actually played it and disliked it.

I started with Oblivion but I really like Skyrim more - a lot more! I never joined any forums for Oblivion, so the proof is in the pudding! :celebration:

I started with Oblivion, and yet my choice order (Vanilla) is Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion. I am yet to give a daggerfall a throughtfully play.

Seriously, I've had really awesome and breathtaking moments with this game. It's got flaws, but previous games also had them, and they're yet my favorite game series.

It may be a misuse with regards of Its original use, yet It's the most common use It has now, therefor being widely accepted. That same expression is used in my mother language, Spanish, as well as in some other romance languages.

its how they did it. visually when you see an axe go right through someone its weird to see no damage and then see the exact same animation and there is damage. there are games where if you attack doesnt connect you get a different animation such as you weapon pulling back or going to the side. mount and blade warband does this where if you are too close for instance your attack animation wont complete and if your to far away your swing will continue all the way through cutting nothing but air. the biggest thing for me is not being able to manipulate my shield. even if the shield isnt effective it still feels wierd not being able to even raise it.

Same. Seems like we're few who do though.

Oblivion changed the flavor of TES entirely.

To go from levitating up to mushroom towers, exploring vast reddish sandstorms, and walking through insane cities build of pyramids coming from the ocean (Not to mention tons of glorious mountains and mist which gave the game a feel of mystery) to entering Oblivion (which looked like a medieval ripoff) was like. . .

It was like a bucket of water to the face.

I have to agree with op I mean you would have to be a madman. I played oblivion and loved it but skyrim
stat is so good I actually wanna get it modded for a pc just to see. I know oblivion had other providences that were actually quite good. Hoping for a complete tamerial once I have a pc. But on xbox there is only one highlander and its name is skyrim

Started with Morrowind and loved it, moved to Oblivion and was all set to hate it simply because it wasn't Morrowind but loved Oblivion too. Skyrim...not so much. Perhaps given time it will become a favourite and once the DLC comes out it will be great but i don't play on pc so no mods for me. The GOTY edition should sort out the minor bugs but they arn't going to help with the 'streamlined' aspect of the game. Dragons are great though.

Still getting in to Skyrim, loved Morrowind, but I am probably going to go with Oblivion as my favorite. Loved the setting, the quests and the graphics.

However, I am only 30 hours into Skyrim so my opinion may change.

My favourite was DaggerFall. Just bloody amazing. played all from arena but skipped oblivion. I like Skyrim, but daggerfall is still hands down the best for me.

For me it's the opposite, I started Skyrim before even playing Morrowind for good and I like Morrowind more, I'm not lying.

Started with Morrowind, with Skyrim being a very close second. Each game has it's strengths and weaknesses.
I'm fairly ambivalent towards Oblivion though. Neither love it, nor hate it. It's just there.

Morrowind had a sense of character, immersion, culture, story and depth that I think no game can overcome ever.

For me its:

Morrowind: 10/10
Oblivion: 6/10
Skyrim: 8/10

The main issue with skyrim imo is the very short guild quests, lack of response to your achievements after completing MQ, lack of citizens (There are WAY to few generic people in the cities, i feel there is 20 guards and 10 people in each) and the lack of rewarding dungeon crawls. In morrowind i could enter a seemingly random cave and find a 5 level cave system with caves going even further down. At the bottom a viking(Nord?)ship burial with some dead king and riches, where the riches and treasury was "bait" - and by chanse - using levitate - finding a daedric helmet on a caveshelf (Daedric armor pieces in oblivion was so rare they felt non-existent). Skyrim = Looting 500 Urns and finding *Drumroll* 7 gold and a petty soulgem. Ive yet to find a cool, super rare or unique magical item handplaced in a skyrim dungeon.

Wow. You sir are open minded to go back that far (2 gens) and retain immersion.

Props to you. I'm impressed.
