Has anyone watched the show? If so, is there any action in it? Online resources don't seem to specify.

I like the show, but it's basically just six-centered. If you mean a different type of action.. as in violence... no not really. Jousting and wrestling is about as much as you see of that.

Watch The Pillars of the Earth.

Any other recommendations? I'm watching Spartacus:Blood and Sand right now. I love these HBO/Starz series'.

What I mentioned was probably the best. If you've read the books prior to you wouldn't enjoy it, but otherwise it's a fantastic mini-series. Definitely worth trying out, trust me!

All I recall was that there was a lot of six (some of it involving Sam Neill) and King Henry wasn't nearly fat enough.

Aye. Jonathan Rhys Meyes doesn't really = Henry.

I do love that series though, just because the Anne Boleyn portrayal is so badass.

Tudors is pretty meh, should of been called 'Bore of the Roses'. The Borgias, now that looks good.

Its not anywere near the quality of HBO historical dramas. Rome,Dead, Boardwalk Empire all try be historically accurate it terms of sets, costumes, etc.

And Henry was a 6'3" man with red hair, blues and a red beard. Horrible miscasting on showtimes part of Henry. Never a less accurate Henry.

Boardwalk Empire is the best show on TV at the moment in my opinion. You should check it out.

I'm looking for HBO/Starz/Showtime series' that I can watch on Netflix online. I really want something based on medieval times or Roman times. The series Rome isn't available, which is quite upsetting.

edit:I suppose this is better for a new thread. Mods can close.

Unlike apparently everyone else, I really like the Tudors (although I have yet to see the last season). Call it a guilty pleasure.

Altrough it's very much centered around Henry's crazy sometimes blasé, sometimes adolescent attitude in regards to women and... pretty much everything.... as a king, there is plenty of really good and cool things, I think I'll list them:

1. The Darth Vador syndrome: I wont spoil anything, but let's just say you dont want to fail a single task the King gives to you, because if you do, rather then fire (or divorce) you you'll just be executed in an horrifyiying, HORRIFYING way. (I think my favorite is still being boiled alive in oil, ouch!) And seriously, so many people are executed by that King, it's crazy!

2. A few cool swordfights here and there, including one cool few minutes long gang fight at one point out of nowhere that was very enjoyable.

3. The scenery, costumes, castles. Everything looks great, it's really, really far away from Monty Python and the holy grail!

4. It's sometimes really funny (when it decides to do so, you can expect a few good ironic / osée jokes or funny situation that have more laugh then a "funny" movie of today.)

5. Political drama, with executions (for heresy, treason, "treason", not doing your job, being liberal, and of course " treason " wink wink)

I think the problem is that people maybe go into it expecting a perfect historically accurate storyline. I was guilty of this going into Alexander and was quite disappointed by it (never mind Farrel's dreadful acting). Now with the movie The Eagle coming soon, I plan to go into not expecting a perfect display of Roman military history. I do plan to loudly point out things to everyone in the theater obnoxiously but I do this with plot holes for all movies anyways ;)
