To Councilor Sjorenfried, in praise and honor for your Wise and Glorious Stewardship of the Empire!

My lord, as per your request, the Primate of the Chapel of Julianos and myself have been seeking to answer the questions Your Lordship presented. Through allowed (and sometimes, may Julianos forgive me, Apocryphal) methods, we have succeed in persuading Julianos to respond to our supplications.

"Where is Akatosh? Who is providing the Blessings at His Altars?", we questioned. We did not expect the response.

"LOOK TO THE TWO STATUES. WHOM DO THEY REPRESENT?"

Lord Sjorenfried, we are attempting to interpret the meaning of that statement. "Two statues?" Surely one must be the Statue of Akatosh in the Temple District. But what is the second? There are many statues in existence. I will make contact again once the Skingrad agents have anything further to report. Until then I remain....

Yours in the Scrolls,

[let me step out of character and say, what the hell?]

Perhaps the second statue being spoken of is Talos, who is more or less Shezzar. His statues are present in the Arboretum and near the chapel in Bruma.

I think the Word Merchant means the Statue of Akatosh in Talos Plaza.

Yea. I thought it was Talos too. :glare:

So that's three statue's, one in Talos Plaza, one in the Temple district and one in the Arboretum.

Where's the Talos in the Temple district? And can someone tell me the position of the statues in the arboretum, i'm working on a map, to see if we can figure anything out. My neighbor has the OB guide, and I can't find it on the internet. how everso convenient. yet I fail to see the Talos in the Temple District.

To Councilor Sjorenfried, in praise and honor for your Wise and Glorious Stewardship of the Empire!

We have been unable to reestablish direct communication with the Divine Julianos despite conscripting the Bruma priests into our efforts. They are a solemn bunch, unlike their Nordic bretheren in that city, what their carousing and drunken merriment beside the hearths. (Why they do not take to full-scale Sanguine worship is beyond me.)

During a sleeping break from our attempts to reconnect with [the Hum] of Julianos, a younger priest from Bruma began discussing the local goings-on there. I usually am mindful of my duties and do not let myself become absorbed into such purposeless gossiping. However, these mutterings turned my ear. The priests of Talos have responded to an act of vandalism with peculiar flair. The act was against the newly erected statue of the Savior of Bruma. The warrior priests have been so alarmed that they called upon the assistance of of a few Knights of the Nine. (It seems that the morale of the Knights of the Nine has been little affected by the recent disappearance of their Knight Commander.)

At first glance one would think that the Knights are enraged simply because the statue depicts their Divine Crusader, however it is the nature of the defilement that raises my concern. What was that defilement, you ask?

Scratched deep into the stone were two simple words: "SKOOMA CAT".

The search for the vandal is fiercer than one would imagine. It is but a simple statue, no?

I will report again as more information arrives. I remain.....

Akatosh and the Champion, who stands in the company of Talos, who is the Champion of Cyrodiil who is the Divine Crusader who is by some accounts the Madgod and by other accounts might be connected to such figures as the Eternal Champion, the Emperor's Champion, and the Nerevarine. The two statues 'erected' during the Gate Breaking. The Dragon and the Hero.

Now who would know that the Savior of Bruma is also the Madgod? "Skooma Cat" would imply a Kajiit vandal, M'Aiq perhaps?

Anyway, a very interesting read, Word Merchant.

Well, the only certain possixr of such knowledge that is allowed freedom of movement would be the Champion him/herself.

Rumors abound, some more crazy than others.

An informant from Mournhold procured a copy of the Common Tongue, which claims that the Champion vandalized the statue. Why the Champion would do this to a statue dedicated to the heroic Battle of Bruma, in which he (or she, if some rumors are to be believed) bravely fought in, I can not guess. How writers from mainland Morrowind would have the inside scoop on this is even farther beyond my grasp.

Seems like so much outrageous heresay. I'd pay it no mind. Vandalizing one's own statue would be ridiculous. This is obviously the work of a madman, not a righteous champion of the Nine.

What's the difference?

Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge.

To Councilor Sjorenfried, in praise and honor for your Wise and Glorious Stewardship of the Empire!

Still [the Hum] of Julianos evades us while pilgrims from across Tamriel flock to see the statues of Akatosh and the Savior of Bruma. While the Chapel's heirarchy, as my Lord already well knows, had originally sought to keep the knowledge of Martin's transformation in the face of Mehrunes Dagon from being widely dissiminated, the Imperial Legionaires who witnessed the event have proven difficult to silence. Much better would it have been for the good citizens to have believed that Akatosh Himself had deigned to end Dagon's rampage and not rely upon the actions of a mortal's (or mortals'?) faith.

The Chapel Primates have increased their efforts to collect donations to fund the continuing research. Unfortunately, most of the tithes from the "civilized" provinces are, and have long been, committed to preexisting needs. On the other hand, the tithes from Morrowind have been exponentially increasing as word of the Tribunal Temple's collapse spreads through the daedra-razed ashlands of the Dunmer. The reactionary regression to ancestor and daedra worship has seen a merciful reversal (Praise Julianos and all of the Divines!) in the face of the naked aggression of their House of Troubles coupled with the impotence of the "Good Daedra" to provide assistance or succor, much less aid in stemming the tide of Dagon's raw carnage. Their conversion to the True Faith has increased the strength of our communication with the Divines, providing stronger Blessings, Healing, and Peace-Through-[the Hum].

What is not common knowledge, according to our sources in Morrowind, is the full-scale attack by Umaril the Unfeathered and his Meridia-sworn Aurorans against the Holy Chapels of the Divines in Cyrodiil. Neither are the Dunmer much aware of a mortal's hand (yet again) in defeating the Unfeathered. Should they prove to be resistant to the strategic dogma that the Chapel has already constructed concerning how each of the Divines Blessed the Divine Crusading Champion of Cyrodiil, then their faith may wane as it did in their shortlived rededication to Veloth's teachings. The Dunmer, above all others, want results, not promises. Existing in the actual presence of their Living Gods of the Tribunal for so long has made the distance kept by the Divines difficult for them to understand.

As the faith of Cyrodiil wanes in the Divines while concurrently increasing in Martin and the Champion, the Chapel faces a grave threat to its continuing existence. I would ask that your Lordship submit a formal request to the Elder Council Finance Committee, sealed, of course, to secure the funding necessary to discover how we may reverse our setbacks. [The Hum] of the Divines grow fainter, and I fear that our time is short.

Great worship brings great power. This has long been known by the Chapel. The Chapel has sent the Knights of the Nine alongside the Blades to locate the whereabouts of the Champion of Cyrodiil. We must discover how this new worship is affecting him. It has been said that he was last seen heading in the general direction of Bruma. I will report more as more information arrives.

One final note of minor import: the vandal of the Savior of Bruma has been found. Bruma guards stumbled upon a naked Khajiit laying lettuce and a soulgem gently and reverently at the foot of the statue. The female ignored the guards, acting as if they could not see her. Through long interrogation they discovered that her name is S'fara. Her trial is scheduled to be held soon, although there seems to be some concern as to her ability to understand the nature of the charges against her. Until we speak again, I remain....

Ha!

Your champion is gone, but by no means of my interference. He exists no more in the present and you mortals will only remember your champion for what he accomplished on your world. Only a scant few will ever whisper of his greatest feat and his ultimate fate.

Well there's the problem. One should never hold out on the mad god. Selfish little kitty kept the yarn for herself. Can't really blame her though. You know how the little kitties love to play with a good ball of yarn.
