The Ultimate Breton Thread!

Now, when I see "Breton," I can't help but think "Britons," as in Celts.

The Bretons are apparently descended from druids. They're up there in the north-westernmost corner of the continent, and they're related to the Nords, but they're not Nords, and they're more "mystical." So, I'm kind of disappointed that they did away with the red hair and revamped the facial structure in Morrowind, to look more like the Imperials. Oblivion's chargen was sort of "one size fits all" and pretty experimental, so it's hard to know how Bretons will be handled in TES V.

I hope they return to the way Bretons were done in http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/thelobo/Picture11-1.png?t=1283455422 and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/thelobo/Picture12.png?t=1283455513

For beards, vote yes if you only want them available in the chargen, otherwise, if you want them in chargen and the game, choose one of the different options.

Also, in Daggerfall and Arena, you could pick a guy with an http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/thelobo/Picture3-5.png?t=1283456085 Should they bring back the eyepatch?

I don't see Bretons, who are best at being spellcasters in Morrowind and Oblivion, as a race that would best look like tough men/pirates. :P

Damn those look so much cooler, but they really don't match the voices, but those look ten times more baddass.

Yes to beards in chargen

I was initially going to vote for smooth, round faces to represent their elven heritage, but then I saw looked at the images you posted, and they look really cool. I voted for a mix of face types. Since Bretons are descended from men and mer, I think that they should be represented as both, perhaps there are certain bloodlines that are more elvish than others.

I voted yes for beards, as an option...We obviously wouldn't want every single Breton running around with facial hair. I think I said this in an earlier poll, but I don't like the idea of being able to change your characters appearance in-game. It seems really gimmicky, and for some reason it's always made to be a big deal. I also think it's kind of immersion breaking if you go to a barber shop, and come out with a longer beard than what you originally had. I'm probably not going to complain if it's included, but I would prefer to leave it out.

Eyepatches? I really don't care. Maybe include them if there's going to be facial accessories as articles of clothing. I voted "Meh".

Ideally, I think they should look like Nords, but with softer features that taper down to a narrow chin, as a nod to their elven heritage. I'd like to see facial hair in general, but I don't really like the idea of Bretons with full beards (with the possible exception of a long, gray wizard's beard), so I voted no on beards, but I think they should have goatees and stubble the way some of them did in Morrowind. As for eyepatches, I feel that all the races should have the option for scars, eyepatches, tattoos and so on at chargen, not that it should be Breton exclusive.

I agree with you about the beards, I think that younger Bretons should be allowed light facial hair, and older ones should be allowed to have a longer, scraggly beard if they wanted to. Your scars/tattoos on chargen is a much better idea than mine about minor accessories... You know what? I also agree with you about the faces.

I like your ideas more than mine. I'm not changing my vote though, because to me a goatee counts as a beard.

Bethesda should put some more into distinguishing the races of men from each other. I put yes for everything.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-high-rock The aristocracy accentuate their elven features, and it is this class which the char-gen race comes from.

Would love to see more of a mix of mer and man instead of what they were in Oblivion. From the description, they sounded like my favourite race, but the general looks and the voice actor that was chosen to represent them almost ruined them for me. Ugh.

I just checked out that thread and LOLed. Klingon-esk faces and talk like Seon Connery.

Your definately cool in my books Hamsmagoo.

But YES I totaly beleive that we should have more face effects(eye patches, beards, piercings) they add character. But I can definately see why it might be impossible right now(facegen). However I think I know a workaround.

Well, character creation stuff doesn't apply quite so well to general society. A Redguard dockworker isn't automatically a great swordsman just for being a Redguard. In the game Daggerfall, the city of Daggerfall had maybe eight mages at the guild with a few more around town, and that was out of a city of 100,000. The big thing in Breton society is knights and nobility.

Bretons are cool BUT i would like it if they did not have sissy voices, its very disturbing when u hit a breton and he screams like a little girl.

I chose sharp faces (better looking)
beards (cause why not)
no eye patch unless in game trinket.

Sort of smooth and round, almost soft-looking, to put up as a dramatic irony. Their elven heritage would make them look fair and slightly effeminate, hiding independent, strong spirits and magic that could flay you from across a city. Obviously, beards should be an available option, and eye-patches as well.

Good to see another of these, by the way.

They should look as they did in Morrowind and Oblivion. Beards only available at barber shops.

Being a combination of the two tallest races on the continent, Bretons should be tall compared to an Imperial or Dark Elf. I don't know why they would be generally effeminate, Nords and High Elves are both pretty manly. Especially the High Elf women.

I loled.

Well, you do have a point on height. However by effeminate I meant by Colovian-Nordic standards. So about Nibenean.

Here we are being racist against people who don't exist.

Anyways, I mean that their culture (so obviously, not particularly many individuals) would be littered with "unmanly" things like reading, alchemy, education, and the like. Of course, you'd have some high nobility like that guy in Tribunal, with the manicures and the obsession with personal appearance.

There's a big difference between vain and effeminate and the stuff I bolded.

If you think reading is unmanly, you should visit the bookstore. Generally, the only women there are crammed into the weight-loss section or "bestsellers."

Again, by Nord standards. I love reading. It's all in good fun.

But also, I think this might be how people should talk in the games: horribly racist.

usually play female bretons, think they looks good and kind of innocent and wham-a bandit gets a spell tossed at him/her.
for morrowind there is a whole lot of facepacks, originally it wasn′t all that good, oblivion wasn′t all that easy to get it "right",hours in facegen.

Breton males could look more buff.

In general I thought Breton males looked meek and colorless in Oblivion. Both males and females should have sharper features and be a bit taller.

The illustration in the Oblivion manual of the Bretons has to be my favorite. If they could have slightly pointed ears and sharper features that would be fantastic!

The Breton from the Oblivion manual does look pretty cool, though that's kind of how I imagined the Reachmen to look like.
It might be cool for Bretons to, instead of just looking like another human race, be distinguishable from them altogether, perhaps give them slightly fairer features as a nod towards their elven heritage.

eyepatches, facial hair etc, works really well in fallout. if that is any sort of indicator, then no worries about those in tes5. if it's set in skyrim, you know beards are on the menu.

the no beards in oblivion is such fail.

anyway, Brets should be fairly diverse. so i may vote mix for the faces.

I always play a Breton summoner/knight. weapon: 1 hand mace. not from a large or powerful noble house. but of good birth none the less.
