Hell yeah.

Sounds like an awesome idea.

This sounds like it could be really fun. Just not with my main character.

I think thats kinda harsh. I think for a game like this it would be better if it only saved every hour or so maybe. Or really mess up your character if u died. Like losing all your money or something.

That would be the most incredibly terrible idea that could be incorporated into TES, ever.

It's a single player game. It's not Runescape. If you die, you lose all progress you have made since your last save. It makes no sense for you to play 200 hours without saving, earn 150000 gold coins and die, for bandits to loot your corpse, and for you to start off at the beginning of the game with your gold set at -150,000. Which is exactly what you are saying. By dying you've already lost the 150000 once. You don't need to lose it twice.

Why is your gold at -150k?

Why is your gold at -150k?

Because apparently when your character gains x amount of gold and dies, the most recent save of that character should have x amount of gold less than he had when the game was saved.

I did this with quite a few of my OB characters, and I have no doubt that I will in Skyrim too.

It makes no sense for an open-world game like TES where you can go anywhere at any time even if it's risky, and a single character can last hundreds of hours.

I might honestly start off with that mindset, but I know that after a certain point, I'll be keeping that character safer than my very own stones.

Dead is Dead. If you die you delete your save and start over. Will you ever do this with one of your characters? I might.

I guess it could be fun to try as a gimmick, but it really doesn't make sense for an open world, non-linear game like Skyrim.

Unlike dungeon crawlers, there is simply no finish line you are striving to reach. Instead, the "point" of a TES game is simply to explore new locations, meet NPCs, take on side quests and progress as a character in the world, dealing with the main quest if and when you ever feel the inclination.

A "permanent death" feature holds absolutely zero interest for me, mainly because if I am not dying FREQUENTLY, then the game is not challenging enough and needs mods like FCOM and Duke Patricks to make combat more challenging.

Any conceivable version of Skyrim or Oblivion where it would be actually possible for me to play the game for 500+ hours without dying would mean the game is so ridiculously easy that it would be unbelievably boring to play.

Nah. Save games exist for a reason.

When I play RPGs, I'm investing gameplay hours into developing a character story. If that can all just be wiped out in the blink of an eye, I feel I've wasted my time. And without level scaling, I WILL get wiped out in the blink of an eye. Maybe you won't, and good luck to you.

Also: let's say it takes 10 hours to get to the first dragon fight. You don't know what you're doing, you don't even know how to knock a dragon down, you get killed. Are you seriously going to start over and play another 10 hours just to get to that same fight? What if you die again?

For me it would quickly start to feel like one of those checkpoint platformers, where I'm just repeating the boring stuff I already did over and over, only over the course of dozens of hours instead of 30 seconds. No thanks.

Considering it.

I did this for Fallout: NV, on my first playthrough no less, so no foreknowledge of the dangers. However, I had my experience in Fallout 3 to go on. It does tend to be an incredible experience, because you have to play carefully. For example, in a normal game, combat arena = $$$. In a dead is dead game? No way I'm doing it.

Even after all this time, I tend to die in Oblivion. A lot. I don't think I'll survive Skyrim.

I may for a laugh after Iv'e played for a while and made a few characters, at least I'll know the game a bit more and how to survive a bit better. Doing it from my first character will probably be a very short play through...

I might after playing through several times and getting bored of the game.

This

There's no way in hell I'm pouring hundreds of hours into my character, only to die at the very point of killing Alduin, and having to start over. That doesn't sound like much fun to me

I made many dead is dead charachters in FO3 and NV and it's big fun, so I'll do it in Skyrim too.

BUT I will never delete a safegame, and if I like the character or wanna continue a specific quest with the character I'm gonna continue to play with him after his death.

I have an excel spreadsheet with how long my DID characters survived, which level they reached etc. (untill their first death), but I don't consequently stop playing after their death, depends on the character.

I like the idea of modding in gravestones for previously fallen characters.

I did it in fallout new vegas, level 16 melee character with 10 endurance, still not dead :)

I *might* do it in Skyrim sometimes.

No i'll pass. While perma death is fun for some games I would not try it in skyrim. Well....maybe on a second playthrough.
