The Ultimate Elder Scrolls Poll

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:10 am

Now, one mans opinion isn't any better than the next mans, but the 3 million copies sold and the numerous game of the year awards beats everyone on this forum opinions.

When I said it was the favoured of the series, I didn't say it because it was my favourite(Morrowind is my favorite). I said it because it is. All those top 100 games of all time and game of the year awards say oblivion is one of the best.

Oblivion is only the most favored because it advertised more and presented itself better. Any typical gamer can be drawn it with Sword + Enemy = Ragdoll physics. (Including me, BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT)

General outside this forum opinion aside. I wouldn't go as far as saying Arena was better. I can't fairly compare daggerfall, I never played it. Oblivion had its ups, an acceptional amount of downs, and a meh it wasn't that great in any of the games.
Example of an Up is:
Skill level perks.
Example of a down:
Level scaled artifacts.
Example of a still not that great:
Combat.

In conclusion, expect TES 5 to be most like Oblivion, only better.

I completely agree, but let's not go there.

Morrowind (duh)

Seen any Elves?

Skyrim

Akatosh, just because he's kind of like alduin, superficially. And Alduin is a giant dragon that eats the world, enough said there I guess.

Hircine, cause he's just plain cool.

Just because people buy it doesn't make it good. People did, after all, buy Superman 64, ET, and Mario is Missing. =P

While I do not think it makes sense for this to be TES V, I would love to see a game based in the full province of Morrowind (mainland and Vvardenfell), with the story involving another Akaviri invasion, eventually resulting in a trip to Akavir. I would love to see Mainland Morrowind, and I find Akavir extremely interesting as well. I think it's a bit too soon for that, though.

That being said, I would like to see multiple provinces in TES V. Maybe Hammerfell/High Rock/Skyrim or Elsweyr/Black Marsh or maybe Summerset Isle/some of the other islands. Also, I would be interested in travelling to one of the old worlds (Yokuda, Atmora). There are a wealth of possibilities.

And of course, we are all waiting for the day many years down the road when the whole of Tamriel is on one game (or is that too much to wish for?)

And who told you it died? Why could it not have simply moved on? To some other plane of existence? To some other placce in Nirn? I mean, as Hellmouth said, he keeps popping up. I doubt he'll die from some guy with a dagger and hammer. The Dwemer were good, but not that good. They could never destroy a god.

I love Oblivion. Make it bigger, with more side missions and everthing else. It would be perfect for me then.

Morrowind and its expansions, content in general and the classes are more fleshed out, but I'd love it if bethesda brought back the daggerfall class options in skills they had, benefits, and disabilities that some classes had and could be added to your custom class.

Khajiits, because crazy cat people are cool and kinda funny.

Elsweyr, cat people and werelions

Skyrim, nords and werebears

Summerset Isles, seeing those isles finally in a game

Arkay, because he keeps your dead relatives from being used as meat/bone puppets.

Hircine, because he's one of the more straight forward ones and could be more trust-able.

So the same thing, just 3x the generic dungeons, and 3x the predictable missions? Blasphemy!...

Who likes Arena above all? speak up, i would like to hear your opinion :)

And in my opinion any province is worthy of it's own game, they are all interesting. I chose Skyrim because it will be different, something new.

Game: Morrowind
Race: Dunmer or Khajiit
Next province: I would love to see mainland Morrowind, Telvanni isles and more xenophobical Dunmers.
Aedra: I hove no favourite here, but Arkay was always cool.
Daedra: Mephala or Azura

Nobody really likes arena, since it's essentially a buggier, less detailed version of Daggerfall. Unless you like it for it's story, there isn't much about it that makes it a favored above all else.

I think he's talking about the person who voted for Arena. I too would like to hear why.

Hircine cus the user is cool.

:shifty:

But yeah, I agree with above, Hircine is one of the more trustable Daedra. I mean, you know EXACTLY what he's about. And he won't run in and mercilessly slaughter you with no chance of survival. I mean, he is often known as "the sportsman". He has a great sense of sportsmanship, and will give you a chance. Most Daedra will trap you without a chance of escape, or kill you. I mean, Mora will trap me in his library for all time, Aura will trap me in her selfish grasp for all time, Dagon will just slaughter me, etc.

Thats not exactly what I wrote. The majority of TES fans prefer Oblivion, either because they are action game lovers or they never played any of the previouse games. Besides that, the poll for this for this thread shows a high number of Oblivion fans.

In the end Morrowind is my favorite, Oblivion is my second favorite.

Nope, wrong. I am no action gamer, but rather mostly an RPG gamer with some strategy games thrown in and I've played each of the four games in the main series, yet Oblivion is my favorite. Daggerfall and, especially, Arena are, to me, too repetitive, randomly-generated, and predictable for me to even consider them rivals to Oblivion. Morrowind, while close in second place and my second favorite game of all time, has several little game mechanics I just don't like as much as their Oblivion counterparts. For example, I did NOT like the Ashlands as much as the forests of Oblivion, nor did I like Morrowind's running speed, Morrowind's spellcasting method, Morrowind's fast-travel method, the hassle of storing my items in Morrowind, the lack of buyable houses, the lack of people walking around with buildings being locked up at night, the lack of any mounts, what I felt was crappy and un-atmospheric dungeon design(not talking about dungeon content; that was good, but I'm talking about the lack of dungeon music and the all-too-cheerful mood of Morrowind's dungeons), etc. Before someone says something similar to "u iz an ADD akshun gamerz", all I will say is that the way Oblivion handled those things is the way Daggerfall handled those things, and who here remembers the old days of "Daggerfall is a real RPG, Morrowind is a dumbed-down, casual, action game"? To me, Oblivion combined many of the features I thought were cool in Daggerfall with the design style of Morrowind. I don't support the loss of skills, but that happened, and to a greater degree, between Daggerfall and Morrowind, as well, so are Morrowind lovers also the action junkies people claimed them to be with Daggerfall fans being the only true RPG players? I like Oblivion's quests better, and no, contrary to what I swear some people imply, I do not consider more interesting quests to be "too interesting" or anti-RPG. I want to enjoy a large, open-ended, interesting game, not a life simulator. I have life for that. Menial escort quests and go talk to this person for me quests combined with wandering in the Ashlands for 40 minutes with cliffracers pecking at my head just trying to find a location are not what I consider fun, nor is that, pre-Tribunal, mess of a journal.

If you don't like Oblivion as much as I do, I have no problem, but stop pretending we're either action junkies or ignorant people who have not yet discovered the glory of Morrowind which puts our favorite to shame. May Talos forgive us for our sin of not recognizing the true Elder Scrolls game. You might be surprised by how many Oblivion favorers(note: RPG fans) love Morrowind, as well, or perhaps even the older games. The angriest and most disappointed people are often the loudest. Also, if our first Elder Scrolls games were part of this poll, I'm sure you would notice a pattern between one's favorite and one's first Elder Scrolls game.

What seti said ^^^

I've said all along Oblivion doesn't deserve the treatment it gets on here. I'm currently playing and loving Morrowind, but i find the anti - Oblivion mentalility to be quite lame now.
I remember one person even saying they prefer Arena over Oblivion, of course i respect their opinion and all but come on that is pure anti oblivion isn't it?

Hircine is most certainly one of the more interesting Daedra. Seeing as he is the hunter, not just a behemoth who stomps and screams.

This is what it all comes down to, I think. The first is usually the greatest, because it's your introduction to the series. It's not always like that, but it does tends to go that way most of the time.
