Thats not exactly what I wrote. The majority of TES fans prefer Oblivion, either because they are action game lovers or they never played any of the previouse games. Besides that, the poll for this for this thread shows a high number of Oblivion fans.
In the end Morrowind is my favorite, Oblivion is my second favorite.
Nope, wrong. I am no action gamer, but rather mostly an RPG gamer with some strategy games thrown in and I've played each of the four games in the main series, yet Oblivion is my favorite. Daggerfall and, especially, Arena are, to me, too repetitive, randomly-generated, and predictable for me to even consider them rivals to Oblivion. Morrowind, while close in second place and my second favorite game of all time, has several little game mechanics I just don't like as much as their Oblivion counterparts. For example, I did NOT like the Ashlands as much as the forests of Oblivion, nor did I like Morrowind's running speed, Morrowind's spellcasting method, Morrowind's fast-travel method, the hassle of storing my items in Morrowind, the lack of buyable houses, the lack of people walking around with buildings being locked up at night, the lack of any mounts, what I felt was crappy and un-atmospheric dungeon design(not talking about dungeon content; that was good, but I'm talking about the lack of dungeon music and the all-too-cheerful mood of Morrowind's dungeons), etc. Before someone says something similar to "u iz an ADD akshun gamerz", all I will say is that the way Oblivion handled those things is the way Daggerfall handled those things, and who here remembers the old days of "Daggerfall is a real RPG, Morrowind is a dumbed-down, casual, action game"? To me, Oblivion combined many of the features I thought were cool in Daggerfall with the design style of Morrowind. I don't support the loss of skills, but that happened, and to a greater degree, between Daggerfall and Morrowind, as well, so are Morrowind lovers also the action junkies people claimed them to be with Daggerfall fans being the only true RPG players? I like Oblivion's quests better, and no, contrary to what I swear some people imply, I do not consider more interesting quests to be "too interesting" or anti-RPG. I want to enjoy a large, open-ended, interesting game, not a life simulator. I have life for that. Menial escort quests and go talk to this person for me quests combined with wandering in the Ashlands for 40 minutes with cliffracers pecking at my head just trying to find a location are not what I consider fun, nor is that, pre-Tribunal, mess of a journal.
If you don't like Oblivion as much as I do, I have no problem, but stop pretending we're either action junkies or ignorant people who have not yet discovered the glory of Morrowind which puts our favorite to shame. May Talos forgive us for our sin of not recognizing the true Elder Scrolls game. You might be surprised by how many Oblivion favorers(note: RPG fans) love Morrowind, as well, or perhaps even the older games. The angriest and most disappointed people are often the loudest. Also, if our first Elder Scrolls games were part of this poll, I'm sure you would notice a pattern between one's favorite and one's first Elder Scrolls game.
