The Ultimate Planning Ahead Thread

1st I'm probably going to take a couple hours to get the character right. I will do the tutorial, make a save before I leave Goodsprings, exit Goodsprings and grind until I hit LV 2. Then I will find out what all the different perks do and what stats I'll need for those perks. Next I will write down what perks I want to get and the requirements for those perks. Then I'll reload my save, work on character creation for a half an hour getting the face perfect then set up the stats for the perks that I want to get. I'll finally tag the 3 skills I'm going to use (Gun, Speech, Lockpick or Repair) then I'll go play the game. :celebration: :celebration:

I am going to do the first couple main quests so I can level up and stuff (since I will be playing in hardcoe), scavenge and then head somewhere I find interesting for side quests. The one thing I'm afraid of is like how if you go to Big Town or Paradise Falls you can starts the quests and miss some and I want to do all of the quests properly my first time through.

I'll do what seems most realistic based on my characters survival instinct, so I won't head into the unknown wilderness at first. I'll try to determine how to get to the nearest settlement, and do some minor tasks so I'll earn money for supplies. Following that, based on whom I've talked to and what I've learned, I'll let my moral compass steer me in the right direction. As I'll be playing on hardcoe mode I'll want to search for some decent places to stash surplus ammo and rations early on. Incidentally, I'll play an oldschool conservative character based on some of Clint Eastwood's characters, and will aim to bring law and order to the wasteland while also dealing out some vengeance to the ones responsible for the attempt on my life.

is it odd that i intend to not use the map marker at all?

i remember when my friend rented F3 and i went over to play it for the first time. i got there about as he was running to the vault exit. as soon as he stepped outside we just wandered instead of going to the main quest. it was so much fun i dont even want to use the map marker anymore.

was it possible to turn it off completely inf F3 or will have to use it

I wish they would just add the option in Main Menu to let us set it off completely while still having a quest active. <_<

Ah but the problem with that is, because New Vegas was built with quest markers, NPCs will give us terrible directions, if they give us any at all. So, as you said, we're pretty much forced too.

The best thing we can do is completely ignore the quest marker only after we've found the location we have to go to.

I'll just settle in Goodsprings for a few days, training and getting stronger before heading towards the next destination, Vegas can wait.

I will complete the tutorial and then I'll just wander the wastes. Of course I will do quests, but I will go anyplace that looks interesting. If it happens to be the place to do the quest, I will do the quest related objective, but mostly I will be walking, looking for a place of interest, and a place to stay during the night. It's hardcoe mode after all.

Doesn't it switch off after you finish a quest? Correct me if i'm wrong but i thought that if you set it to a side quest and then finish said quest then you have no map marker until you pick a new active quest. Which i suppose is no help if you are wanting no map marker during missions but if you just wanna wander and explore the wastes in your own time without one then it could be handy

After I create my character,I'll be doing every quest I could in Goodsprings and then I'll be heading towards the city of lights...New Vegas! I'll try to work my way around while doing the quests.

Burn through the MQ once to get it out of the way and see if/when any particular points alter world spawns (i.e. Enclave in FO3) so I know where to go to before stopping on the many, many, many playthroughs I'm sure to do where I just wander, explore, kill and loot, adding more and more mods as good ones become available.

That's a beefy sentence right there.

first ill establish my own clan (The Sons of Darkness, for fun) other faction in which to ally with hopefully NCR and work with them for a bit to gain weapons and such then find a follower and change their outfit too suit my faction then clear out an abandoned building and establish that as a base.

Spend my time in good springs and take it slow and maybe complete some of the tutorials just for the hell of it and any other small details.

Then take my time to Primm pickup a follower and a certain item while I'm there :).

Then I'll just do whatever suits my fancy.

Make my character, do the tutorials (even though I'll probably have a handle on it already)

after I finish up in Goodsprings I'll probably head towards Primm, after watching the demos that seems to be the place where the imaginary finger is pointing

When I get enough of the main quest I think I'm gonna go search for the Brotherhood when I'm ready.

Also, gonna keep an eye on some Raider hunting grounds if you catch my drift :hubbahubba:

I'm not entirely sure yet.. We don't know much about what the area contains, do we? Back in FO3, we knew (at least if we'd keept up with the previews) that Megaton was just outside the Vault, so I first headed there - hoping to sell a thing or two that I picked up in the Vault, maybe buy a thing or two, pick up a quest or two... And of course pick up the first lead on the main quest. After doing that, I spent some time exploring Springvale, heading back to Megaton (to sell any loot) before I headed towards Arefu and the rest is history.

I'll probably follow a similar scheme in New Vegas - Explore Goodsprings, do a few local quests, pick up some leads - and then carefully (as I intend to play hardcoe) do some travelling in the Wasteland to, ah, put on some muscle and fill my pockets somewhat before I tackle New Vegas itself :D .

yeah that is what i am gonna do as well it sounds logic.
i shall master the way of new vegas and once i am the highest rank i will explore and get every achievment in the game prepeared for the DLC's to come. :celebration:
