The Ultimate Planning Ahead Thread

Soon as I install Fallout New Vegas, go through character creation and a few starter quests, I'm heading East. screw Vegas, screw the big rollercoaster, I'm going as far out into nowhere as I possibly can. Nothing is more fun than being a low level character lost in a strange place, where the monsters are too big for your skills...and managing to excape by a fraction of your life.

Anybody else know what they'll be doing?

As soon as I start Vegas, I'm going to probably have to install Steam, play with my graphic settings for three hours.. oh, wait...

lol yeah, I know what you mean. I learned my lesson from FO3, rushing into the main questline. Best thing I did in my second runthrough was complete the Wasteland Survival Guide first, before most of the main stuff. I saw much more of the Wasteland that way, places I'd never been to before. I really hope there is some kind of similar scenario in NV, I guess the courier jobs?

I'm not entirely sure yet.. We don't know much about what the area contains, do we? Back in FO3, we knew (at least if we'd keept up with the previews) that Megaton was just outside the Vault, so I first headed there - hoping to sell a thing or two that I picked up in the Vault, maybe buy a thing or two, pick up a quest or two... And of course pick up the first lead on the main quest. After doing that, I spent some time exploring Springvale, heading back to Megaton (to sell any loot) before I headed towards Arefu and the rest is history.

I'll probably follow a similar scheme in New Vegas - Explore Goodsprings, do a few local quests, pick up some leads - and then carefully (as I intend to play hardcoe) do some travelling in the Wasteland to, ah, put on some muscle and fill my pockets somewhat before I tackle New Vegas itself :D .

I'm going to attempt to find the Brotherhood and join up with them as quickly as possible. I also want to find the Brotherhood Scribe companion so those two should dovetail together nicely.

Aside from that, I likely won't be pursuing the main questline for quite some time; I LOVE simply roaming around the wastelands and exploring.

I am going to steal everything that isn't nailed down, then sell it to the first merchant willing to deal with my broke ass. With those caps I'm going to score stims, bullets and a good gun with which to fire those bullets.

Probably go "meh" and start playing a little Borderlands first.
When and if I get around to it I'll pop it in and create a character just for exploring.
After exploring for a few hours I might turn it off and watch Lost while eating dinner.
Then I'm off to consume alcoholic beverages with a bunch of knuckleheads.

Finding Primm, and ED-E, is my first priority. When I find him, I'm doing his quest so I can find out what's going on in the Capital Wasteland. I could technically just go into the NV GECK and find out instantly, but that's no fun.

After that, well, I guess I'll find a way to join the NCR. Though I think you have to join the NCR to get into Primm anyway, so that'd be even better.

Oh damn, completely forgot about that!

I'm definitely going to find ED-E as well, I <3 the East Coast Brotherhood and especially the Outcasts, so I would love to find out what's going on. I just have a weak spot for T-45d, especially T-45d that's painted red.

I hear that. I'm gonna get some cash together (Most likley by dishonest means as it's quicker) to fund afew of my expeditions and buy supplies as i'll be on hardcoe mode then head off into the sunset.
I think a line from the first lord of the rings movie said it best. The one where Bilbo said, and i quote;

"It's a dangerous business frodo...going out your front door. You step out onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet there's no telling where you might be swept off to".

That's pretty much how it'll be with me on my first playthrough

I'm gonna do as i'm told til i reach the first intended location (although i might make small detours to make sure i get any locations i pass on the way added to my auto travel) and then i'm going to do every single side quest possible from there before moving on to the next place i'm told to go.

Then when i figure that i'm about half way through the main story i'll start exploring.

Just ticking all the boxes to make sure i don't miss anything belfore i have to start choosing which town to blow up (althoguh i have to go back to murder and pillage first)

I think I'll load up hard core and see how long it takes to die.

Where I go doesn't much matter. Exploring comes first, then I start the quests.

Well, apart from graphically, gameplay wise, New Vegas, even in nonhardcoe (Which I wont play, on account Im to lazy to be that responsible for my PC  ), is vastly different from Fallout 3, I think I'll lightly mess around the general vacinity of Goodsprings, and then when I'm confident I'm ready to head out into that wild wooly wasteland, I'll go straight to my idol Mr. House. (And he favors me more than Lucky 38 :P)

Well he likes me more on the account that I have told him of your avatar. He is not pleased that you 1. Stole his identity 2. Showed his face to the world.
Also, I promised him that I would use my ridiculously high repair skill to fix his casino and make him even more money :hubbahubba:

He has a NEW favorite Colonel. Get over it :celebration:

I don't know where my path will lead me after Goodsprings. Primm or Novac may be a good idea.

My biggest regret in my first playthrough of F3 was following that damn map marker that led me to Megaton right away. Had I not done that It is entirely possible I would have wandered into that school full of raiders and been destroyed...What fun!!

The point is, This time around I intend to play the game (at least the first time - in hardcoe of course :) ) as I would imagine I would handle the scenario in if it were to occur in real life. So no, just because there is a settlement ahead doesn't mean I'm going in there because they could all be mindless cannibals...I will need to have a reason to go...or do anything for that matter. Not to say I won't explore, but It will be for the purpose of finding survival supplies, not just for the sake of finding new people to kill. I will likely miss a lot of the game doing this, but I'm ok with it for the first play through. Once you take a peek onto the wiki page and see all the spoilers/strategies there is no going back in terms of discovering everything for yourself, so I intend to avoid it at all costs, especially at first. I'm saving that for the second play through when I will be an evil bastard who plunders every settlement for sheer enjoyment, and get a "full" completion of the game with him.
