The unbearable lightness of being Bosmer

Post » Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:13 pm

Who would have thought that looking more hardcoe and warpainty would have robbed the Bosmer of their 'hook'; these tiny, irritating blokes whose irredeemable nuisance would keep in-check the ego's of many a Nerevarine, Shezzarines?

You know, I just genuinely miss hating them. I miss the http://images.uesp.net/3/3c/OB-npc-Adoring_Fan.jpg, theirhttp://images.uesp.net/5/5f/OB-npc-Glarthir.jpg, the weird, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwNb53uuSVcof strange new lands!

Really? Because I rather like how they are now. They look as if they can be taken seriously for once. Not the smaller folk walking around that everyone seems to pick on. And I can finally bear playing as a Bosmer if I ever wished to.

I'm totally fine with them never being like Morrowind or Oblivion Bosmer again.

I agree. Though I do miss the huge height difference between male and females.

I really hated the way they got such a bad rap in previous games.

They're better in many ways, of course, a bit too alien looking for my tastes, but I like them fine. I'm playing one right now.

But the point is this; in Skyrim they are very innocuous as a race, not much of a racial 'thing' or niche at all. Previously, they were comedians, or infuriating nuisances, they brought comedy and entertainment! If there is one thing that Skyrim lacks, it is a sense of lightness and comedy that was always there in TES before.

The Bosmer were so important to that. You don't know what you got till it's gone.

Skyrim is a grim place, because it is infested with genocidal snow-demon incarnates.

Yeah, it does miss a bit of that. If there were some stupid wood elves to pick on in a bar, it'd probably make Skyrim a much merrier place.

I think the Bosmer look fantastic. The way they look in Skyrim was how I always imagined them in my head. If you know how, you can make some very intimidating looking Bosmer in Skyrim.

Lol they're still pathetic little skinny things running about with odd heads and eyes. They can't even fight well.

I too love the way Bosmer look in Skyrim. They seem so much more believable in Skyrim. The comparitively tiny Bosmer of Oblivion and the high-pitched voices of Morrowind always felt so out of place, and I could never really take them seriously. They're still short in Skyrim, but in a realistic way - it's not like they're old men in children's bodies. I feel as if I can respect them more in Skyrim.

I think the post was referring to old games rather than old Bosmer ;)

Bosmer can fight I'll have you know. Watch out for those arrows from the shadow. :D :gun:

OT though... thank goodness we don't have any remnants of OB's cartoonish characters in Skyrim. Bosmer as well as Orsimer along with eveyone else are far superior here. Now if only I hadn't known that Bosmer had a rep as cannibals. I might have changed the race of my starting character.

They are a race of cannibalistic guerrillas that live in the woods, shoot animals with bows, and theorize that the majority of monsters in Tamriel are descended from them.

They should look a little intimidating. Of course, looking all innocent and comedic just makes them scarier when you learn the truth.

that said, if you're referring to the tone of our tree hugging nekkid breathren, be it skin or posture. take note that they hail from towering forests of old that blot out the very shine of Magnus on the earth. as for those who've come to Skyrim (foolishly) one couldn't possibly expect any dark pigmentation to persist for long within such a frosted bleak landscape of ever-snow.

You know, I never really got excited about any of the races looking "better" in Skyrim. That's the case with all new games when compared with older ones. GTA IV looks graphically better than San Andreas and I didn't [censored] my pants the first time I started the game.

That said, I do think Skyrim does a better job characterizing some of the races, and Bosmer are a great example of this. Their culture is actually pretty badass if you think about it.
