[WIP] The Unique Landscapes Project

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 5:32 am

I remember seeing screenshots of a WIP UL project that had amazing rivers and rocks and ledges all around it. It might have been Silverfish River, but I wish I could see those screenshots again. They were in a past thread that probably doesn't exist anymore. Heh.

Might have been Silverfish, or it might have been Cheydinhal Falls, which does contain a fantastic new river and waterfalls with rocks and ledges curving back and forth down a hillside from Cheydinhal's south walls to the Reed River.

I'm positive it wasn't Cheydinhal Falls, and I have a better memory of it being Silverfish River though I'm not positive 100%.

Wasn't that. It's still a WIP project. I remember distinctly the UL having many levels of rocks surrounding some rivers. It was an awesome sight. I'm pretty sure now it was Silverfish River, though the screenshots were in a past thread that probably doesn't exist anymore.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Strid River one. There was a very nice video of it in the last thread.

Wasn't that, although that does look good. Yeah, I'm pretty positive now it was Silverfish River.

Any mod that changes even a little tiny fraction of boring vanilla landscape deserves to be called a UL.

River Strid looks amazing, btw. Though, I must wonder, will it even be remotely patchable with Elsweyr DOA? If someone ever does make a patch, it'll have to be quite a hefty one... Either way, amazing work here.

I think it will slot in nicely with Elsweyr without needing too much patching. The UL grid map and one of the screeen shots shows that it ends at the top of the Elsweyr/Valenwood border mountains (correct me if I'm wrong!) and my mod begins on the opposite side of that ridge. The UL also has its own roads through Valenwood so my one in that area will no longer be necessary. I think I add about four or five wooden bridges in the area but that's about it, and those can easily be removed in a patch.

Is there any news on Strid River? I've not seen any posts on it for a while.

...but does the Strid River mod need SI expansion or does work on Oblivion vanilla?

The progress is slow but steady; Carel already did three UL mods and each of them took its time, but since all his mods are outstanding, I think we can live with some waiting ;).

It is one of our rules to not use SI data for UL mods, so it will work with vanilla Oblivion.

I'm dropping in a little report on progress here.. Although it is not a good work of progress! :P
Apparently, when I switched to a new computer, my most recent file of the Skingrad Outskirts disappeared! :/
BUT, only the most recent stuff. Most of it is still there! So I'm gonna start working on it again. Shouldn't take too long before it can be ready for a release!! :D

Can I troubleshoot a bit here? I've installed all the UL mods, sorted em with BOSS, bashed em as necessary; but, the landscapes aren't showing any water. Just dry riverbeds, though the only reason I realised water was supposed to be there was because waterfalls flow from empty space. Is that a common problem?

Remove C Water tag from Unofficial Oblivion Patch, or even better, download this http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710

Remove C Water tag from Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Can anyone explain exactly what this does, technically? Do you need Wrye Bash to remove it?

If you don't have Wrye Bash and a bashed patch it has absolutely no effect. What it does, is to tell Wrye Bash that the water level of this mod shall override the water level of later-loading mods - which it should not in the case of the UOP.

But without a Bashed Patch, the later-loading mod always wins, so such tags has no effect.

Ah, I think you might be on to it. I'll update the patch (which by the looks of it removed the water tag) and report my findings!

Ah, thanks for the info. I get no water in Cheydinhal Falls, but I don't have Wrye Bash installed so UOP is not the issue. I'll go through and disable all the mods that load after to see which is the culprit.

Don't forget to update your Bash Patch after installing the UOP update.

Ok apologies to everyone I posted the latest update for Silverfish River Valley in the release thread not in this thread where it belongs. Call it old age, must be losing my mind. So for anyone who missed it here are the links.

The WIP video on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUH0LbcsTK8

Links to downloads of new screenshots: http://www.mediafire.com/?ikaja4m22zd

Work is going very well so more updates within a week.
