The Bug List! v.2

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 7:40 pm

I dont know if its an actual problem but the game acts like I put it in for the first time telling me about the HD and having me press ok to continue than loading trophies every time I start the game. I never had a game ask that every time i start it up but Skyrim, Modern Warfare ask me but that was when I first put it in, now it doesnt Tell me about the autosave and load trophies. But Skyrim seems to do that everytime i start it, not a real bothersome but maybe its related to why the game has framerate issues.

Brilliant! I do believe this is the most comprehensive bug list I've seen so far. I am surprised it still hasn't been stickied.

Not sure if this is on the list, and it's no gamebreaker, but right when you put the game in your PS3 you have to hit (x) now for "push start to continue" to work.

I am experiencing the same thing. I used to be able to press start but I now have to press X first.

My game does the exact same thing. I also have to wait for a couple of minutes staring at the Dragon symbol on the intro screen before I can access the start menu, as if it is busy loading something before it will let me activate the menu.

I saw nothing here about not being able to finish College of Winterhold (Arrow won't go away over Nirya's head I believe). Making it unable to finish the quest at all.

I can't unlock 3 of my learned shouts and the second part of the Firebreath shout won't unlock either. I can slay a dragon and absorb its soul well but no unlock of my shouts: Ethereal, Slow Time, Disarm, and the second part of the Firebreath. It really, really svcks so much that I can't use them at all even absorbing a dragon's soul.

I was thinking below each bug, you could post videos for evidence. I made a lag video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdD2qqdf7RI

You should do it with any bugs that have video proof.

when i bought hijerim the windhelm house i bought it before the patch and unlike many everything in the house worked for me book shelves the racks the lot since updating the game now however I'm finding that i can no longer access my books on my books shelves and i can no longer activate them
the ones i have been able to activate after the patch iv activated once either taken a book or put a book on and boom book shelf no longer works and books are unaccessible, with one book shelf the bottom shelf allowed me to activate it put books on it but when i came out books disappeared into thin air, no where to be see so iv lost my sithis book and the dossiers from the thalmer embassy and i can no longer activate this book shelf, this same issue is now happening to the weapons cases and racks
so now anything that is up on my racks that i can still access is going to have to be removed for fear of loosing my deadric artifacts and dragon armor and other important and wanted items i have found along the way

Have 2 Bugs one Major and one Minor

Major Bug

Can't complete the Quest Boethias Calling because i can't talk to the Medium after Boethia is overtaking the dead Body. He always just says same sentence and repeats it. Tried everything from older Saves to other Fellowers i sacrificed... nothing works. All 7 Boethia Cultists are alive so thats not the problem too.

Minor Bug

I can't mark the "Recieve Bounty from Skalde" Entry in my Quest Book and if i talk to Skalde i have no Option to chose to get my Bounty from him so that minor quest is not finishable too

I am playing with actual 1.2 Patch just for the info

I have the same problems with dragons. Occasionally a dragon will aggro a mob on the ground, like a bear, but after I kill the mob the dragon was targeted on, it continues to fly in endless circles looking for the mob. If I don't kill the mob, the dragon flies in endless circles dive-bombing but never actually killing the mob. No matter how many times I hit the dragons I cannot get aggro, they will not land, and when they do decide to land, they go for my horse.

Does your horse take off across the countryside chasing dragons and such? I have to dismount at stables and run a long way to whatever my objective is just to keep my horse from killing itself. If anything is remotely close enough to attack me, whether it does or not, the horse will immediately take off upon dismount and start a fight with everything in a 10 mile radius. The other day I had to chase my horse across the map from Whiterun, only to find it wanted to kill a Mudcrab I aggrod around Riften.

It would make more sense to let the horse just die, but he was a quest horse and I happen to like him.

Is that Shadowmere by any chance? as i have him and at times he does exactly the same to me at some points iv lost him in the wilderness because hes gone to chase something and iv had to quick travel to a stables to get him back

Finally had the time to play again, removed unnecessary items from my inventory via console (player.removeitem ). Also fixed the whiterun attack. I stole some food at the city market then paid the bounty. I read this somewhere so THX whoever had the idea.

Forgot to mention that lydia (did not have others as follower) does not use bows after a certain level or type. Changed her bow from refined elven to refined ebony (not specced in bs) and she stopped using any custom bows, tried all types enchanted unenchanted refined and basic.

I ran over the replies here in a hurry and saw MBP giving me advice taht q items are weightless. I really didnt try since inventory managing takes enuff time already but i will. Items show weight so maybe if its flagged quest item the engine just ignores it?

I just hope the CS comes asap so we can get started. I read somewhere that the CS will be merged with some online thingy to show off mods. Oh come on don't waste the time just visit nexus. Dedicated people there with skills doing stuff above the level of ANY pc game shipped from factory. Just wonder why such people aren't paid designers. Im a modeler/texturer myself since about 13 years and just wonder how such horse textures can exist in a game in 2011. The engine has so much potential and not even half of it is used.

Im aware of the engine complexity (above 6 months in Fo3 modding it) and certainly a lot of pc gamers don't have the hardware to run it maxxed out - me neither - but after tweaking it its just plain beautiful.

Solbving the reseting hotkeys issue: as with tweaked ini files set it read-only :) Set keys ingame, save it, quit then go to skyrim root dir and set ControlMap_Custom.txt read-only. I start my game with the launcher and it tries to reset graphics every time. I just hit play. After pathing to latest keys did not work for me so i did as above. No problems ever since.

Most of the bugs I've noticed are with the houses.

- I can't place any weapons on the weapon rack or any of the plaques in Breezehome
- The bookshelves don't work anymore in Breezehome. I filled the bookshelves but now I can't read or remove any of the books
- When I place armour/clothes on any of the mannequins in Hjerm, the armour or clothes turns invisible and so does the mannequin
- There is no chest at the end of my bed in Hjerm, and there seem to be other storage containers missing
- Items around the house (i.e food on tables) ends up moving about. Even when I pick up something off the floor and put it back on the table, if I go away and come back to the house, it'll be on the floor again

I don't see it here, but magicka regeneration bonuses don't get applied during combat which is pretty stupid. That's when you want it the most.

My glitches:

- NPC conversation options require you to select them multiple times seemingly decided by whether you've said it before, haven't said it, or if it's now a multiple instance. This seems to repeat a very specific way on a 1-2-3 click cycle depending on aforementioned instances. (sorry kind of hard to explain if you're not doing/looking for it)

- Game freezes/crashes on 8/10 autosaves, wait, travel, enter/exit and 1/2 of not autosave menu opens. This requires manual system shut down, it will not recover - tested for over an hour on all just to see. This does not corrupt the file system or save data unless it is during the autosave.

- Very difficult to play for more than 10-15 minutes without random crashes that automatically shut down the system and restart. This corrupts ps3 file system every time. Of these random crashes 1/3 corrupt ALL data.

- Most of the minor bugs others are experiencing I have noticed, only one quest bug with 'blood on the ice' that I'm ignoring because it doesn't effect anything else.

- Experienced 'Already Shouting' bug but found that (always while I was in combat) R2-R1-L1-R2 fixed it every time. Just thought I'd put it out there for others to try.

- My ash piles from lightning only never go away.

- Crash frequency for me is not dependant on save file size. My main character has a huge 13mb file, 200 plus hours and most of the map activated. My tester characters I've started have files less than 5mb, under 10 hours but most of the map active (level up exploits with lots of stamina so I can 'RUN AWAY!!!'). The more active markers the worse the crashes, I don't explore any indoors/dungeons at all with these guys just activate them. These characters crash just as frequently and in the same manner. I have replicated my results across three characters thousands of times.

Hope that this helps someone in some way.

Thanks to all who have pointed out glitches or found work arounds I really appreciate it, it has helped a lot.

*EDIT - Also I have no lag except for a few seconds before the crash

- Has anyone else noticed a giant hole in the dawnstar sanctuary in the master bedroom between the bed the bookshelf and the weapons rack (right side when looking straight at bed)? You fall through to an otherwise inaccessable part of the sanctuary and if you go through the tunnel you can get svcked into a wall for 10 seconds or so and then emerge on the other side back in the sanctuary in a halfway.

I got a bug south of Windhelm - a dragon was flying around backwards. He was also sitting still for long periods of time spinning. I shot him with fireballs and his health shows zero, but he is still alive. Now he is following me around everywhere and I can't save and can't fast travel.

While he is following me, he also causes other things walking around to go backwards - I saw a giant running backwards as well. :( I can't complete the 'Night to remember' quest now, because anytime I get anywhere near the shack where the hagraven lives this stupid dragon shows up. HELP!

For some reason I have encountered a few caves that when I enter them it causes me to be under the world and also Riften disappears when I try to enter. What is incredibly sad is that this started happening after the patch. I am actually contemplating on just trading my game in. It is rather difficult playing a game where when you enter somewhere that doesn't exist and the only way of escape is a later save.

Another marriage bug - you can't marry Grelka even tho she is on the marriagable list.

According to UESP, this has to due with a quest she isn't giving the player, thus preventing any upgrade in friendship status.

Also, I found a giant hole in the corner of one of the rooms in the bottom of Labrynthian - it is one with two spectral draugr in it with a trapdoor in the ceiling above them. This is probably more of a clipping error than anything. But one corner of the room has a water texture applied where it should just be the normal flooring, and the wall in the corner turns invisible, allowing you to see an endless abyss beyond, the sky, and the moons. Very disturbing.

I also noticed that sneak attacks seem to fail more often with daggers than with other weapons. Usually, it seems that the enemy "detects" me after I strike him (duh), but for some reason, this detection is getting applied before I strike, so the attack fails.

On other occasions, I am well hidden and stationary, and the creature will detect me the moment i click to attack, resulting in him detecting me moments before I strike him. This also happens most with daggers and I think it is related to the above problem.

I have had this happen most with Draugr and Falmer, sometimes multiple times in a row, so much so that it becomes more normal than a successful sneak attack, and this is on a very sneaky character with muffle cast, and as I said, myself and the creature are stationary, his back is in my face, and I'm completely hidden (For comparison, I have had multiple successful sneak attacks with other weapons when I was moving quickly, facing the enemy, and they were on the verge of spotting me anyways).

I will note that I have the assassin's blade perk, and started noticing this problem more after the patch. It seems to happen most on creatures that a sneak attack would kill outright with a dagger equipped.

Another one:

Certain robes that are effectively more valuable than the common "Black Mage Robes" that give 50% faster magicka regen, valued in the game at 153 septims, are worth much less, for example, "Robes of Major Alteration" (17% decreased alteration cost, 50% magicka regen) are only worth 80 septims, "Robes of Recharging" (100% magicka regen bonus) are only worth 80, and "Necromancer's Robes" (75% magicka regen bonus) are only worth around 53 I think.

It's a small thing but it's very silly.

Minor Bug

I can't mark the "Recieve Bounty from Skalde" Entry in my Quest Book and if i talk to Skalde i have no Option to chose to get my Bounty from him so that minor quest is not finishable too

Did this quest involve going to kill a Dragon? I'm pretty sure you've actually claimed the bounty already, the quest just sticks in your quest log.

When I do that quest, I can hand it in and get the money - but the quest stays in my log and the quest marker vanishes. Skalde also stops talking about it. I reported this one a while back and it's in the OP's 'Quest Bugs' list.

I don't see it here, but magicka regeneration bonuses don't get applied during combat which is pretty stupid. That's when you want it the most.

Actually, the bonuses are applied, but then the total magicka regen is reduced by a large percentage. If you remove all your regen items, you'll notice that in combat you regen ever so slightly slower. I tested it with a stopwatch and there was a good 2-3 second difference in regenerating 100 magicka points.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or if they intended Magicka to regen slower in combat to make you use potions. Hopefully Bethesda will clarify this.

I believe something similiar happens with stamina but I'm tired of doing Bethesda's job for them so I'm not going to test it.

This is normal, if annoying, for many PS3 games. Street Fighter does it, all other Bethesda games do it... usually it's badly ported games.

Quest related bugs I have noticed so far:

The Bards College -

Finn's Lute: Return an invaluable lute to the Bards College. Even after retrieving this item it isn't removed from your character's inventory. (no fix)

Pantea's Flute: Find a missing flute for Pantea. Pantea Ateia's flute is not removed from your inventory after retrieving it. (no fix)

Rjorn's Drum: Retrieve a drum for Giraud Gemane. Not removed after turning it in either. (no fix)

Miscellaneous Quests -

Collect bounty from skald - The bounty can be collected, however the completion command doesn't initiate. (no fix)

Confirm Bard's college problems - exactly as you said.

Collect Bounty from Skald - also exactly as you said, my description of it is in the OP and it's been confirmed at least twice by other users. Thanks for further confirmation :)

Regarding Other Bugs People Have Mentioned Here
(Since the Multiquote doesn't work - seriously can Bethesda do anything right?)

* Dropped item locations are indeed remembered where they were 'dropped' from your inventory, not where you 'move' them to, which is why everyone's decorations all fall over.

* Sneak mechanics are broken for me too. My 'perfect stealth' character gets spotted by a rat's backside in the dark from 20 miles away... oh yeah, and my horse notifies enemies of my position too. Genius.

* If you're hidden and order your companion to attack someone, they immediately know where you are - even though you're still hidden.

* Sometimes NPCs come from MILES away to see a dead dragon... like, so far that they couldn't possibly have known it existed. I had an NPC from Dawnstar come to look at a dead dragon at Riften... he was a quest-giver, too.

* Horses are in fact lemmings. They should flee, not fight. This is the easiest fix in the world for anyone that's used the construction kits from previous games.

* NPC followers step on trap switchplates even when you walk around them. If this can't be fixed, just make them not trigger any... it leads to horrendous stuck character situations.

* Conversely, NPS will never risk fall damage, even if the drop is tiny. This leaves them trailing behind you by miles most of the time.

* NPCs forget which weapons they're good with when they level up to a certain point. They'll equip shoddy wooden bows instead of elven etc.

* NPCs cannot ride horses. This is just plain laziness by Bethesda - if I own two horses and have a companion, I expect my companion to USE it. Failing that, make my companion ride 'shotgun' on my horse. Just put a stop to them walking behind me, it's hopeless. I was able to mod the first suggestion into Oblivion, so I'm sure it can be done.

edit:

Note for the people who get crashes on autosave or constant random crashing, even with new characters:

Delete your game data (not your saved games), clean your Skyrim disc and re-install. Then reinstall the patches, and use a LAN cable rather than the wireless when you download them. Occasional crashes are normal, constant ones are usually down to corrupted data.

I will add my problems:

1. Brynjolf doesn't come out of his stall at the market, thus I am unable to join the thieves guild. It says to meet him in the Ragged Flagon but he doesn't go there. (I have tried everything)

2. Because of this I can't start 'no stone unturned' because the guy keeps telling me to 'talk to Brynjolf first, he will explain me everything'

3. The Daedric Quest where you have to offer a companion: when I order ANY COMPANION (I tried 6) to touch the pole, he/she does not complete the order (they say 'ok').

4. Of course the mannequins, weapon racks... are [censored] up.

5. The book of Olaf has sunk into the ground, making it impossible to complete the Bards quest line.

6. The Ancient Shrouded Armor has no cap in front of the mouth when worn by me, with a companion it does. So does the normal Shrouded Armor

This is pretty much all I can think of now. WIll add more if I come across them.

I would really, for once, see these problems resolved as the other gaes Bethesda has released were AWESOME, but BUGGED TO HELL.

Don't even get me started on the broken piece of [censored] FALLOUT: NV was after I purchased ALL the DLC's. I would not like to see this happen to this game as well.

As for the framerate problems, they are gone since the patch (savegame 15MB) but freezes are indeed more common.

I don't know whether this has been reported but i have encountered a bug where if you have spell absorbtion on your character, conjuration spells seem to be absorbed. leading to multiple casts in order to summon a creature. it's annoying at high absorbtion levels especially for a pure-mage (like me). I've also encountered the resistance bug
