The Bug List! v.2

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 9:56 pm

Maybe not a bug but after your BS skill gets higher you can refine weapons and armor further. But if you get the perk to do 2 enchants on items it can only applied at once when enchanting basic items. Would be nice to upgrade already enchanted items with a 2nd enchantment.

Comment on some replies before me: yes Steam just s*cks. Useless nonsense nothing more. Just like Live. Need to be online to activate/upgrade offline games? Who's brilliant idea was this? Lots of ppl just play pirate version to get rid of all this...

I have a few bugs that I've encountered in my game that I'd like to report. (Was wondering for a while now just 'how" to report them to you guys... I am playing on an xbox 360 elite (bought in december 2009, for console model reference). I had the game installed in the beginning, then removed it. Most of these bugs are post-removal, but I don't think it has any correlation.

Companion Quest Glitch:

I completed "Blood's honor" and got the witch heads, killed all of them, turned the quest in. Moved onto next quest, the white writing flashed across the screen with "Purity of Revenge", but was not in my quest log. I just googled how to do it/where to go. Turns out Farkas is supposed to meet me there, but he doesn't. Go through dungeon, kill everyone, get "Helm of Winterhold", but NO FRAGMENTS OF WUUTHRAD, at all. Went back to Jorrvaskr and Aela and (I can't remember the other companion NPC's name is, but he is a male) are standing with weapons drawn over the dead silver hand, and nobody inside but Vilkas will talk to me, ad he just has his usual dialogue.
tl;dr: Purity of Revenge is bugged. Can't start/complete it.

Some random bugs I've noticed:

-Vendors work days are NOT 8am-8pm, try like 4pm-4am in Whiterun, 1pm-1am in Windhelm, 2/3pm-2/3 am in Riften, and so on, so forth.

-West of Riverwood, half the river is "missing", you can still swim through the "water", but it's not there.

-I've had 1 instance of a dragon soul not being captured after a kill. But this is 1 out of approximately 30 dragons killed.

-I've had a few instances of not being able to use dragon shouts. I know it's not the controller because I got fed up and bought a new controller, and it still happens.

-Unusual Gem/Stone of Barenziah not spawning. (I collected about 7 before I got the quest from Vex to do the stones quest, and looked up the locations on Elder Scrolls Wiki, went to all 24 locations, and I have 23 stones/24. (Yes I have the one from Proudspire manor, yes I got the one from DB original sanctuary, and yes I have the one from Thallmore Embassy, I even glitched my way back in to make sure.). Revisited all the locations to make sure, and nothing.

Help!
Thank you!

Following the 1.2 patch, my brand new 320 GB PS3 now crashes repeatedly whenever it tries to play Skyrim. It crashes during load screens whenever I try to rotate the load screen item, it crashes trying to load textures, it crashes when NPCs try to talk to each other, and it even crashes if I try to turn my character around suddenly. It is also the first PS3 game I have ever had that:

1) Caused a crash to the PS3 "desktop" -- a complete reset crash. Until Skyrim, I did not even know this was possible.

2) Caused a crash so severe that my PS3 actually shut down completely in an attempt to save itself. I had to get up and do a hard restart; it wouldn't even respond to a controller restart. Upon restarting, it informed me that the "file system" had been corrupted and would require 2-3 hours to repair, if possible. I don't even know if it can repair itself. Again, I have never seen another PS3 game do anything remotely like this and in 5 years of PS3 gaming did not even know it was theoretically possible. This crash occurred when I did something crazy: I left Windhelm and walked down the road. Madness, I know.

Usually on a bug spectrum from "minor" to "severe" I would rank these somewhere around "fatally catastrophic." However, I'm still not convinced I've seen the end of Skyrim's bag of tricks. Will it start a fire? Will it flood my game room with hard radiation? Will it start downloading state secrets and then send them to several anonymous servers in Russia while also tipping off the FBI with my home address? Who knows. There is no way to put an upper limit on what this thing can do. And frankly my efforts to try to recategorize and sort every related sub-bug would be like trying to categorize individual burns following the Hindenburg explosion.

Your game is broken. Either fix it or stop selling it.

I can confirm that Disease Resistance isn't working...
I still caught a disease from a trap even though I have werewolf blood.

I can confirm that my dual casting Master Destruction mage is now almost novice after the patch 1.2!!!

Just another minor bugs to report, not sure if it's only effective post-patch, or also pre-, but I've just noticed it.

The weapon 'Keening' obtained via a quest does not allow any recharge, (no option shows in inventory despite having soul gems, etc). Reports around the net suggest this is a bug (Here)... If I'm missing something please let me know!!

Also worthy of note, trainer Gharol of Dushnikh Yol (Heavy Armor Expert) doesn't appear to train beyond journeyman level... not tested this on other saves, and can't find anyone else with the issue as yet.

So, along with backwards flying dragons, and an increase in lag post-12mb save in built up areas, these are a couple of minor ones!

The only show stopper for me involves a glitch that is preventing me from completing the Under Saarthal and Forbidden Legend quests.

When trying to get Saarthal's Amulet, I am prevented from doing so because there are spikes blocking the two entrances to the room with the amulet. My understanding is that those spikes should only appear after picking the amulet up. I believe this glitch occurred because I activated the Forbidden Legend quest before I finished the Under Saarthal quest....but that is only a guess. I thought I was doing something wrong when I was only able to pick up 2 out of the 4 artifacts for the mage there. I figured out how to pick up the 3rd ring by using telekinesis through the spikes, but the tele doesn't appear to reach or recognize the amulet.

Major bummer...seeing that even though I have multiple save files, I didn't realize this was a glitch until I had gone over 20 hours past the last point without a glitch...which is 1/3 rd of the total play time. I want to be able to finish the mage line of quests...but alas.

@ bovrillor

"Note for the people who get crashes on autosave or constant random crashing, even with new characters:[/u]

Delete your game data (not your saved games), clean your Skyrim disc and re-install. Then reinstall the patches, and use a LAN cable rather than the wireless when you download them. Occasional crashes are normal, constant ones are usually down to corrupted data."

Thank you so much for knowing exactly what is causing this 100% of the time for everyone experiencing it! But now that I know that formatting my HD and restoring to factory defaults worked I'm super happy. I was FORCED to do this by the system. My game did not crash as soon as I started one. Thanks for letting me know, I would have assumed my game wasn't working properly...(obviously I was being facetious) My save data for several games is backed up but some things that were on there are not recoverable. Also this is a brand new system that has now experienced so many critical failures on the drive that I would guess it has half the teeny tiny life that a PS3 already has. Oh and new system doesn't mean new user - I have had many PS3's all treated well and all died from the same problems (system defects due to negligence on Sony's part), I'm sure many people here have experienced these fun things and know what I'm talking about. Of all the games I've played I've never seen anything even close to this. I love this game, it is fantastic! It's also a piece of carp. [censored] can excuse Bethesda all they want and say it's a gamers duty to pay extra to get a working copy years later and upgrade their systems so the game is remotely playable. Reasonable, logical, rational people are able to see it for what it is - fraud. This is a standard of practice for this company. I would accept them saying "Yes, upper management forced the release of this game before it had been properly tested. We knew there were major, game breaking flaws and we pushed it through anyway. We announced the date way too soon and our developers were unable to meet the deadline, but we didn't want to lose money. Sorry we tried to steal your money!", unfortunately no lawyer in his right mind would let them say this, unless it was after they lost a class action lawsuit and it might save them money. There are grounds for one and consumer watchdogs are already going after them, if they find means Bethesda is screwed. In Canada when that happens the government sues regardless off whether anyone else is complaining. So just tell everyone, "we know, we are making it number one and will do all in our power to fix it as soon as is reasonable possible", even if that is months. Along with that offer everyone some free little junk DLC and we'll get over it. I don't like being forced to do beta testing. And just in case any [censored] want to attack me, I love this game thats why I'm so ticked off! I have 2 PS3's, I'm getting an X-Box because I want those exclusive games - that's also why I hope to save for the next trillion years to purchase a killer gaming computer, well that and the fact that ps3 and x-box svck when compared to a computer. I am a hater when it comes to Wii though, I just call it "why". But seriously if you heard that a company sold weapons to the military and told them they will work and are reliable, then the soldiers came under fire and were being killed because there aren't any firing pins in the guns but the company still pretends there are even when they are shown evidence, what would you want to happen to this company? Nobody would consider that reasonable even if only 5 of every 10000 soldiers actually died. Hope I'm not too evil sounding but I don't like being effed over or patronized. Let's see if anyone besides SKBlank over on Memory Leaks Thread has any ideas on this that don't involve repeating the same answers over just to insult the intelligence of everyone with crash problems. Really this is all you ever hear if your system crashes, sorry but it is starting to pee me off. Sorry...

Hmm I keep coming across new bugs or remembering bugs I encountered earlier, but now I can't recall anything particularly exciting.

I have been having more and more frequent crashes. 3 today, each about 3 or 4 hours apart, 4 crashes in the last 24 hours. Two of them were on loading screens, one in a conversation, and the last right after fast traveling.

I just reinstalled the game and re-patched, about to copy my save files over from the flash drive. Maybe I'll see some improvements.

And this isn't really a bug but it is stupid game logic. The very FIRST thieves guild quest involves framing Brand-shei and getting him sent to Jail.
1) Brynjolf says he will only go to jail for a few days, yet he's been there for perhaps 6 months in my game, seems permanent . . .
2) One of the "fishing" jobs you get later down the road can involve fishing a sapphire off of Brand-shei, with the explanation that he has picked a fight with a member of the guild or something....
Completing this job involves sneaking into the prison to pickpocket him. Doesn't really make sense, now does it?

Slow menu functions, unresponsive menu actions.
D-pad won't work until anologue stick moved first.
Game won't start past the press ok/x to accept, the warning info once the game is launched from the PS XMB. Have to press the PS button to XMB then back again for the x button to be recognised, irregular occurrence.

WOOHOO!!!
Figured it out!
I read a random post on using the Unrelenting Force shout to drop the spikes...and it actually worked. I have all three words for the shout...so I don't know if it will work with less.

The main bug I've encountered is that my character generally disappears, eek

What I mean by that is, you can't see his hands in first person and in third person he is completely absent.....if you kill someone with a finishing move, all you see is the mob dying.

Occasionally when you load a save, the hands are back, but as soon as the game switches to third person for whatever reason, you disappear and stay disappeared.

Weird and really frustrating.

Anyone else had this?

So I killed a frost dragon outside the Heartwood Mill, watched it burn to crisp and then ravenously absorbed its soul. Of course I also looted the corpse! I left the area to attend to quests, then revisited it a few weeks (in-game) later to discover the corpse was still there. Additionally, the flesh of the dragon actually returned to the bones. So not only did the corpse fail to disappear, it was fully restored to a pre-incineration state. The corpse of the troll I killed at the same time was there, too.

The delay between switching favourite weapons, switching magic, and switching between either, is really annoying.

Also, I noticed a bit of a glitch in Shroud Hearth Barrow, on top of the stairs above the pit area where there are half a dozen skeletons, if you walk through a doorway back into the room, the entire screen goes sky-blue as if you've stepped into midair. Very brief and not game-breaking, but maybe something worth checking out.

Found something annoying odd yesterday. Have a ton of gems I want to use up so I can get my smithing and speech up. Ran out of silver ingots so I went and bought some from the smith in Whiterun, yet when I go to a forge it doesn't see the bars...even though I have 27 in my inventory.

Waiting/Sleeping doesn't help. Putting them in storage then taking them out doesn't work. The only thing I haven't tried is dropping all of them then picking them back up

Found an additional bug with the Forsworn Conspiracy, but it is post-quest. The guards that try to arrest at the Shrine of Talos will still try to arrest you even after you finish the quest, adding an additional 1000 gold bounty.

Another stupid bug. I'm in Geirmund's Hall and have beat the final boss twice with bow/arrow but he disappears each when his health has a tiny bit left. The door behind me opens so I can proceed, but there's no body for me to loot. Note: I have Forbidden Legend as an unfinished quest, but I haven't really started it, the first checkpoint is still 'investigate the Gauldur Legend'.

I'm going to try beating him with magic or sword to see if anything changes.

EDIT: Yep, I used fire magic and this time his body remained. This is a quest-breaking bug, because apparently he has an amulet which I'll need later on for the Forbidden Legend quest.

Alright I have another couple of bugs to report that i have not seen anybody posting about.

- I helped out the Redguard woman and went to kill the assassin leader. talked to him for a min then decided i wanted to kill them. I chose the conversation to kill them and imediately froze everybody with Ice Form. Once i picked off all of the peons I fought the "leader" until his health was low and used unrelenting force to blow him off his little ledge for a finisher! He died but it did not register the kill. I went back to Saadion (excuse the spelling) and she told me to deal with them. the leader still had a quest marker over his head after he was dead.
- I loaded a previous save and killed the leader the regular way finished the quest but now a couple of the guys are standing at the gate in Whiterun. Annoying but not game breaking.

-After completing the Forsworn Liberated quest (or whatever quest is that the guards in Markarth attack you) Now all the guards want to talk to me and take me to jail except when i agree to go with them the conversation restarts. At the conversation point where it is supposed to take me to jail i can exit the conversation and the guard then goes on his merry way. but if i talk to him again it starts the loop. ** this happens even if i have a bounty ** again just annoying.

Not sure if anyone has posted these, but here are some bugs I've found.

A night to remember: I cleared out the dungeon in the Sanguine's Rose quest (A night to remember) and was eventually teleported back to Whiterun. I realized that I hadn't gotten to a couple of the chests in the dungeon, so I fast-traveled back. When I got down into the bottom of the dungeon and tried to grab a chest underneath where the portal appeared to go to Sanguine's Realm, i was teleported back to Sanguine's Realm with no way out.

Warmaiden's not opening: I'm having some weird issues with Warmaiden's. Sometimes it doesn't open at all during the day. I've had a couple instances of Warbear (can't exactly remember his name) doing his salesman schtick from up in the bedroom, and I've also met him coming into Warmaidens from Whiterun immediately after selling him things inside Warmaidens.

Weapon Racks: I know everyone has mentioned bugs with the weapon racks, but I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone. I went to put one of my swords on the weaponrack and it just plain disappeared. I was dual-wielding at the time. When I went to put the weapon that was in my right-hand on the right weapon rack (disappearing weapon was being put on the left weapon rack) it was placed normally.

Two more issues noticed in the dungeon where you have to retrieve books stolen from the College of Winterhold (can't remember name).

1. The Frost Mage that has pet Frostbite Spiders causes a glitch where his dialogue subtitles never leave the screen.

2. This problem is universal rather than locational. The tails of Khajiit corpses move as though they were alive and standing.

Bethesda's fortunate to have so many devoted players helping with reporting bugs and not just returning the store bought beta. Just looking at the alarming list of bugs says the game needs a complete overhaul lol. Top to bottom. It would save time to just repair the entire game rather than go bug by reported bug. Although, if players didn't voice concern and report bugs Bethesda would have been quite content on leaving us with the game - as it is. Anyone else waiting until January to play? Not sure I can play and then upgrade as I go...

As far as a bug to report, just more inconsistencies with dialogue and events happening before the player even gains foreknowledge of it. Which leaves a player a bit confused lol. I'm done beta testing for Bethesda. How about an actual game guys...?

- Cannot start a new save without it overwriting my last one.

- Still lots of freezing and lag after the patch.

- Bookcase is locked cant take or edit what ever is in it.

- Repairing the phial quest cant be finished it says that you still need to find the forsworn heart even though i have already taken it from the leader at sundered towers.

That's all the important ones I have found for now maybe people have found fixes for these if so help would be nice (: ...

- after a certain amount of hours played game starts to lag, made worse with random dragon attacking.sometimes on starting the game of entering towns or when fast traveling

- draw distances seem to pop out later and cause minor lag.

- my saves won't stop getting bigger( level 40, 102 hours, almost 10mb)

- of course the dreaded "rare backwards flying dragon"(gets stuck in sky sometimes) moderate lag when this happens.

- bookshelf, weapon plaque glitch. things disappear when i put them in there, and can't get them back.

- small difference in texture. sometimes they will load after a bit(shadows look degraded, somethings look pixelated eg: peoples faces, water on floor in windhelm)

- horses like to hop on rocks and look like they are floating in the air.
