The Bug List! v.2

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 4:41 pm

Okay, here's something I just noticed. I have sneak skill of 100, and I'm wearing boots enchanted with muffle (which is supposed to make the wearer silent.) Yet I'm still being detected when I'm in sneak mode, it's night and I'm out of line-of-sight from the enemy. Are they smelling me? Also, my post on the previous version of this topic was premature. Played again last night, game started to lag, my save files went up to 11 mb. I've had arrows miss even though I was right beside the enemy and neither of us are moving. This happens mostly with bears.

Quest bugs:
Can't turn in Renanada to Urag gro-Shub at the Mages' College if you found the book before beginning the quest
Can't complete "Laid to Rest" if you killed Movarth before finding evidence that Alva is a vampire and speaking to the Jarl

Other bugs:
Daggers do not receive 1h weapon bonuses from enchanted items.

Sneak attacks randomly fail even when you are properly hidden and even when an enemy has his back to you.

There are "holes" / "bubbles" in the pool of water at the bottom of Reachwater Rock that if you swim into cause you to fall as if you were in empty air and not water, preventing you from surfacing.

Horses constantly get themselves killed by attacking whole camps of enemies when they should flee from combat

Here's a major one for me - the game froze, we had to hard power off. PS3 pops up saying the file system may be corrupted. [censored] great. Honestly I wish they would have given us 50% of the content for the bugs to be fixed.

EDIT: Lost all game saves. Fourth time I'll have to restart. Kind of want my money back now. Note that this doesn't happen with any other game.

to make this simpler I'm going to just copy and paste all the issues I've found that you've reported on here to confirm the problems with my own game... I'll elaborate if I feel it necessary... I'll also add any I don't see on here that I've found personally...

- Frame rate / performance issues still remain, takes longer to start happening than pre patch but still there... Most are saying this is due to file size so I'll point out mine is over 13mb and growing quite fast since I'm a completionist and I usually do everything else before I'll complete the main campaign of any Elder Scrolls game...

- Resistances in general seem to have no effect anymore, Magic, poison and disease (mage type NPC's and dragon breaths damage not being mitigated - vampires now get poisoned, werewolves now get poisoned) Not supposed to have poison resistance as a werewolf or vampire anyway but I've got 100% fire and frost resistance and I'm still getting destroyed by dragons breath...

- Armor stands STILL not displaying armor properly... I've yet to be able to choose which armors to have displayed on them either mainly due to the item duplication bug on mannequins...

- Issues with placing and removing weapons from weapon racks and cases. I've been unable to place weapons and shields on any of the racks or plaques in proudspire manor and I've got quite a few I made with the sole purpose of mounting on my walls and making my house look nicer...

- A lot more reports of overall unstable game (more crashing) Point of fact my game started crashing more often after the 1.02 patch and now after the 4.00 system software update it's completely unplayable because it crashes every 5 minutes... Before these updates the crashes were more a nuisance after many hours of play that happen once in a while on any game, but now I can still play MW3 and any other game I own without any issues and can't play Skyrim which is the only think I really want to play right now...

- Can't complete the Thane of Riften misc quest. The misc quest states I need to speak to the Jarl, but the Jarl has no dialog option for completing the quest. I was getting the dialog option to complete prior to buying a house in Riften. When I bought the house, the option disappeared. I'm not sure if this started after the newest update or on the last one but I'd like to be able to complete the quest...

- Dragons failing to give up their souls after death. Supposedly this was fixed with the 1.02 patch but I didn't even encounter the problem until this patch... I want that soul... Killing an ancient dragon only to be rewarded with no soul is a serious annoyance, especially when that's the whole reason I went off to find a dragon...

- Duel wield weapons don't appear sheathed on character (art glitch)

- Frequent Crashes on autosaves... I just had to go through my save files and clear out over 40 corrupted data files from my system's hard drive...

- Frequent Crashes shortly after using WAIT function... If I'm lucky enough to not have the game crash within 2 minutes of starting it it crashes about 75% of the time if I use the wait function...

- door of obilivion book respawns every time you search the skeleton on the alter above sightless pit... I don't deny I used this to my advantage to make a bit of quick cash before I figured out how to make the most out of enchanting and smithing... Still a glitch that should probably be fixed...

- When I sneak kill sleeping people they sometimes get stuck under the bed... Not a huge issue but it does make it a bit tougher to loot the corpse and find out if I actually want to pick up any of their stuff...

- Sometimes have to press the button multiple times to initiate conversation choices... I believe this one is mainly due to lag issues but it is still an issue...

- I have been having an issue with my dual wield weapons disappearing from the favorites list. I would select them to be equipped, and they would just disappear from the favorites list, and I have to go back into items to reequip them... Mainly happens when the weapons are both the exact same weapon since it tries to place them as the same name in the favorites list... I enchanted my swords and named them differently to prevent this problem but I'd still like the issue fixed since I see no reason to enchant my daggers but I want to favorite them when I feel like making an assassination...

Also another problem I'm having is the weight of the Elder Scroll... I received it from the Daedric quest but I'm not going to do the quest any time soon because I've got other things I'm working on instead and it weighs 20 pounds but since it's a quest item I can't place it in a chest at my houses or anything... I'd be quite grateful if the weight of it could either be reduced or if it could be placed in a container in my house until I need it because 20 pounds for something I can't even drop is ridiculous... I know it's not a but or a glitch but it's still quite annoying...

And in relation to being able to be poisoned with werewolf blood or as a vampire, you are only supposed to be immune to diseases with these statuses... They aren't supposed to make you immune to poison... However if people are getting diseases with these statuses then it is a problem but I've not encountered it yet...

For those complaining about
Hope this helps...

Sneak attacks randomly fail even when you are properly hidden and even when an enemy has his back to you.

I can confirm this as it happens to me all the time with perfect sneak attacks and I'm forced to fight the enemy that I felt like backstabbing... Not like I can't kill them in a straight up brawl but if I wanted to do that I wouldn't have been sneaking up on them in the first place...

This is mostly what's happening to me with trying to play... I've got most of my saves offloaded to a flash drive and uploaded to online storage but definitely not pleasant...

Bugs I have on the PS3 after the patch.

The bookcase bug that is mentioned several times, I can activate the bookcase and it will let me 'store' items but they then do not appear in the bookcase inventory, and I can't take items that are in it out.

The other big one I have had is really odd. It happened in two different areas last night. One was in the Saarathel(not sure on spelling, its the first dungeon in the mages college quest and one of the 3 with the medallion quest) there is an area just inside after the mage sends you ahead, shortly after the door, when I enter it I vanish, not invisible, no shimmering and when going to first person I can still see my hands just fine, and the NPC Druagr would vanish when defeated, though I could still loot them if I looked around at the right spot. After going far enough down the hall, I reappeared and suffered no ill effects.

The second instance it happened was in the Dwemer ruins under Markath, Narsomething Zsomething, on the catwalk/ramp in the main chamber. The area that I had the effect happen was smaller, but an active non-defeated Falmer walked into the area after I aggroed it and it vanished also, but still attached, and I could still hurt it.

In both cases it seems that the model just wasnt there to be seen, but everything else worked, collision detection seemed just fine.

I have had issues with using 'Continue' for a load method. When I select continue it appears to load, but will never leave the splash screen, music cycles, and so do the tips, but the game never loads. If I go and use 'load' to load the same save file, it loads just fine.

The bug mentioned earlier in the thread with Bard instruments not leaving inventory after had in happened to me pre-patch with Finn's lute, so it does not appear related to 1.02.

[list=1]
[*]Items placed on tables or shelves are scattered all over the floor when returning to your house later. There are only a few very RARE occasions where something actually stayed put.

More specifically, they appear where you 'dropped' them rather than where you 'moved' them to - i.e. it doesn't remember the last position of items, just the position you were when you removed them from your inventory... which is strange, because other 'moved' objects (corpses etc) seem to stay where you put them.

From the old list:

- Completing the Jarl Korir's quest to retrieve the helm of Winterhold will prevent the Companions' quest "Purity of Revenge" from starting if the helm was found in Driftshade Ruins.

I can confirm that this is still happening. Returning to Jorvaskr from the previous quest (Blood's Honour) will trigger all the neccessary steps (silver hand corpses appear, various Companions are standing around or tending to the dead), and Vilkas will start his conversation as usual. However, the quest will not be added to your journal/map, and talking to Vilkas only brings up his non-quest dialogue options.

I heard of that quest bug. I heard it was related to if you cleared Driftshade Refuge - before actually receiving the quest "Purity of Revenge". It apparently is very easy to clear out Driftshade Refuge before getting the quest because either the Helm of Winterhold is there, or it's on the way to Fellsomething Mines, where another Companion quest might be. That's what happened to me: I was on the way to an Assassination quest for the Companions when I noticed Driftshade Refuge VERY near where the dungeon I was supposed to go was, and out of curioisity I went in and cleared the dungeon - and thus I screwed up the Companion Questline for good.

In any case, the fix is to either wait 30 days for the dungeon to reset and hopefully you can clear it out properly, or there's no fix at all. Lesson learned: don't enter any dungeon from now one unless I'm sent there until they fix these bugs.

Wow, I did this exact same, thing, exactly!
And likewise, the quest is broken. I may have made it worse, because I tried to fix it by attacking them to snap them out of their "busy" state, and I can receive generic side quests from both Farkas and Vilkas, but Vilkas will still not give me the Purity of Revenge quest no matter what I do.

For clarity's sake, the 'broken' quest i mentioned earlier (Bounty for the Jarl of Dawnstar) was a dragon-slaying quest, which asked me to go to 'Shearpoint'. I killed the dragon, the area is marked as 'cleared' and I am able to collect the bounty (only once) as intended. The quest stays in the misc. log and does not move to 'completed quests' as it should.

Also, again for clarity's sake - my bookshelves and weapon racks all work as intended, so this problem does not affect everyone. Some people have also mentioned changes in the graphics - my texture resolution, AA, Bloom, distance rendering etc. are all unchanged.

The magic reistance thing, though... sigh. So broken. Between that and broken quests, I've given up playing.

The quest in Solitude where you have to convince the girl's mother, Greta, to go back to Temple or something along those lines, is broken if you loot Roggvir's body when you first go to Solitude and he is executed. If you take the Amulet of Talos from him, you can still select to give it to Greta, but if won't work and it won't finish the quest or give you a reward.

PC (I know that's ps3 topic, but mods seem to close every other topic, so i'll write here)

So Pre-Patch i used to get some decent fps (30 indoors, about 25 outdoors with some drops) on ultra with my reeeeally weak pc without any tweaking whatsoever.

After-Patch - Even indoors i'm getting like 15 fps and it's really unplayable, but the joke is that it looks like it has been soaped even more! I mean the textures are now look really lo-res and the DOF effect works even on pretty close objects (Exited markath, was looking at the tower near the stables, it's all blurry). and the shadows indoors now look awful too, they are now like your character has creepy rectangles all over him (I saw this even pre-patch sometimes, but now it's in every building =\)
- Also don't know if that's a bug, or a balance tweak, but if i'll press down my sprint button (while in sneak) to do a silent roll, it will not continue to do it over and over and will just do it once. Click again to repeat.
- And still have the bug with quest items not being removed from inventory after completion (I have The Elder Scroll + lute + flute and some other stuff, resulting in 10% of my total weight being totally useless)
- Control remapping still doesnt work properly. I have changed my unsheath key to F as i used to. In my inventory it's still written (F - Favorite) and when i'm pressing it, it drops, instead of favoring. same with Pressing R to Take All not only taking all, but switches my camera to 3rd person
- still have the bug with two similar enhacned/enchanted weapon being favorite and equipping one of them results into the other one disappearing from list.

And there is a veeeery bad bug, but AFAIK only in Russian version (at least my buddies told me so), don't sure if it's Bethesda miss, or our mean translators, but Fast Travel/Map Marking dosn't work there anymore.

Signed-up just so I could add my two cents here.

Major bugs I've noticed post-1.2 patch:

- Resistances are completely gone. Frost dragons completely destroy me now and playing as a Nord with high resistances has no impact on the amount of damage I take.

- Buying the house in Windhelm is completely bugged and the Blood on the Ice quest never triggers.

- Dragons act entirely crazy now. They fly away (sometimes backwards) or they will start a fight and then fly off into the distance. More often than not they will start a fight and then find the nearest bear to bother leaving me feeling somewhat rejected.

- The Dragonrend shout seems to be completely useless and has no impact on a dragons' behaviour.

- Load times have nearly doubled from loading a saved game. Load times between rooms seems about the same.

- Overall feel of the game is less tight. I've noticed more discolouration and "glitchy" looking scenery (especially around water).

Also, my first save after the patch installed knocked my file size down to 9MB from 11MB. Not sure if anyone else experienced something similar, but it was quite a drop.

I still have all the usual issues (followers not progressing, being unable to turn in bounties at Dawnstar, etc), but since the patch I've come across these ones:

1. Random stall in mining ore that sometimes leads to the deposit being inaccessible.
2. The game sometimes crashes when turning around, or walking backwards.
3. An occasional "taken" item appears red in a container, as if stolen, but remains white in the inventory, and lacks the stolen tag altogether. If dropped, however, it says steal to pick back up, and either way it cannot be sold to a normal vendor.
4. Shopkeeper money occasionally failing to reset from one day to the next.
5. A minor glitch of the character getting hung up on the top step of the Whiterun house. Have to jump, or run in place to get through it.
6. Notable lag before and in dialogue with NPCs.
7. A minor hiccup with doors opening, then closing without loading the area beyond. Have to open a second time to proceed.
8. Occasionally unable to wait due to enemies being around when there are, in fact, no enemies around.
9. Random dialogue with NPCs will pull them in or out of buildings you're entering or leaving.

Most of these aren't game breaking and there are workarounds, but I figure they still deserve some mention for future reference.

First off, I want to thank the OP for this thread. Great job. I can live with alot of these minor glitches but today for the first time since I bought the game I turned off the game because I didn't feel like dealing with some of these issues. My overall experience has been a good one playing this game and I have very much enjoyed playing Skyrim. However, as I progress further and further, its becoming more and more unenjoyable due to the lag issues. For me personally, the glitch with the bookshelves in my Whiterun home is what caused me to shut off my game today. I had just finished collecting some rare books I had been looking for some time and now I can no longer "activate" my bookshelf. I realize this is such a stupid thing to gripe about but for me it was largely gratifying working on my book collection for my home. I really hope this is fixed.

just curious,

do these bugs happen when you start a new game or load a previous save file?

or both?

anyone tried starting a new game with the 1.02 patch and the bugs still appear?

C'mon, this is ridiculous. They've only gone and made it worse, my game was perfectly playable until that patch. Why haven't dealt with this yet?! Or even told us what they're doing, or even plan on doing. Radio silence. :shakehead:
It's not like this are small minor things that'll vanish if we reloaded or something; these are game breaking bugs!

Oh my gosh! Reading what other people have posted, I've just discovered more bugs that were present in my game, like the bookshelf thing. At first I thought nothing of it, I thought it was meant to happen. Wow, Bethesda, you guys have had some buggy PS3 games in the pat, but c'mon!
And now we can't start new games lest we lose our previous saves? What the hell is this?!

There are a bunch of house decorating bugs that haven't been fixed, which is a big deal for me because getting to display all my 'trophies' and unique items has always been one of my favorite things about these games!

1. Items placed on tables or shelves are scattered all over the floor when returning to your house later. There are only a few very RARE occasions where something actually stayed put.
2. Weapon plaques and racks are unclickable, I don't even see the click x to activate message so I can't use them.
3. When putting any items on a mannequin the whole portion that would be covered by that item becomes invisible instead of showing the item.
4. I filled a bookshelf with books and as soon as I left the menu to 'store' them the books didn't appear on my bookshelf, are no longer in my inventory AND I can no longer 'activate' the bookshelf even though the message is there telling me I can.

And I was sooo excited about the new ways to decorate with the shelves, racks and mannequins but now I can't decorate at ALL!

I blamed Lydia for this! Lydia! I'm sorry, I was such a fool! I didn't know this was a glitch! :shakehead:
Damn, I just keep finding more, ugh. I think I'm gonna be sick...
