THE UNOFFICIAL BUG LIST (patch 1.2, PS3 platform only)

This is a continuation of another topic I already started. I started this new one to better divide up the issues and to have more room

Alright, so I thought I would contribute something productive to these forums in the midst of all the flaming towards Bethesda going on. Believe me, I would like to rage just the same. Instead I decided to be constructive and start this, in hopes they actually look at it and address the new and old issues in the next patch. Post replies with any bugs/glitches you are experiencing and I will update the list accordingly. (be warned there may be slight spoilers on this list)

Also there is a lot of good information from other users in the following replies, they've elaborated more on many of the issues I've outlined - be sure to read what everyone else has to say as well.



MAJORLY REPORTED BUGS (Bugs with greater than 20 reports read)

- Frame rate / performance issues still remain, takes longer to start happening than pre patch

- Shouts stop working, and upon trying to switch to a different one game tells player they are already shouting.

- Textures STILL not fully loading from time to time

- Resistances in general seem to have no effect anymore, Magic, poison and disease (mage type NPC's and dragon breaths damage not being mitigated - vampires now get poisoned, werewolves now get diseased)

- Bookshelves broken, can not take books off them

- Armor stands STILL not displaying armor properly

- Issues with placing and removing weapons from weapon racks and cases.

- Dragons fly backwards on occasion

- Auto saves created at the beginning sequence of the game STILL not labeled AUTO SAVE, causing people to mistakenly overwrite their gamesaves

- Game wide quest problems when getting quest items "too early"

- Many Different quest items not being properly removed from inventory after completing quests (Rjorn's Drum, Pantea's Flute, an Orichalcum Ore, and the Glenmoril Witches heads, Finns Lute, amulet of talos - just to name a few.

- A lot more reports of overall unstable game (more crashing)

- Blessing of Talos not properly giving players 20% reduced shout cooldown. Instead, it gives 0%





FREQUENTLY REPORTED BUGS (Bugs with 5-19 reports read)

- Getting a LOT of reports of overall decrease in graphics. Now I haven't noticed myself, but I'm seeing a lot of reports of it, so I figured it should go on here.

- Shouts causing frame rate issues and brief lock ups (namely ice from)

- Problems finishing quests in the thieves guild if you misplace the armor before having tonilia upgrade it

- Weapon switching times 3x slower on ps3 than on PC

- Memory isn't being reset properly after you load up a save after dying. (shop keepers have same amount of money after reloading)

- Players unable to start the quest (Reunification of Skyrim - regain winterhold hold) when speaking to the npc she does not start the quest and the cursor stays above her head as if you still need to talk to her to start the quest

- Learning Shouts out of order is causing them to bug out for some people.

- The dark brotherhood cowl does not show a face mask, only seems to work for females (Astrid or Initiate) but doesn't show up for males. There's a regular version and a maskless version, and they both have no mask and look the same.

- Lydia cannot be married despite the fact that she should be able to be.

- Sometimes when you load a save inside the whiterun house, ALL furniture dissapears

- Can't complete the Thane of Riften misc quest. The misc quest states I need to speak to the Jarl, but the Jarl has no dialog option for completing the quest. I was getting the dialog option to complete prior to buying a house in Riften. When I bought the house, the option disappeared.

- NUMEROUS problems with the Blood on Ice quest.

- Dragons failing to give up their souls after death.

- Sneak attacks randomly fail even when you are properly hidden and even when an enemy has his back to you.

- Horses constantly get themselves killed by attacking whole camps of enemies when they should flee from combat

- Treasure chests found on treasure maps not spawning

- The Dragonrend shout seems to be completely useless and has no impact on a dragons' behaviour.

- Random dialogue with NPCs will pull them in or out of buildings you're entering or leaving.

- Cannot sleep with spouses. This means we can never get the lovers comfort bonus (even when NOT a werewolf)

- Major troubles when trying to keep a horse. It will ONLY fast travel with the player if they are riding it. It will disappear forever no matter where you go if you do not ride it.

- Merchants in every town and every building won't let me sell/buy items from them, gives me the option to see what good they've got, but then the side bar with the items menu never appears. tried everything to fix it. just wont work. even tried loading earlier files

LESS OFTEN REPORTED BUGS (Bugs I've only seen mentioned once or twice)

- Duel wield weapons don't appear sheathed on character (art glitch)

- My horse 'Frost' keeps detecting me when I'm sneaking

- Dark Brotherhood armor - tumblerbane gloves - for me when equipped my hands are floating on the model.

- Lighting in the game seems to have gotten darker for some reason. even during the day when I'm on shadow mere my toon looks solid black

- Lockpicking - some people reporting the postion of the lock changes each time they break a pick.

- Occasionally get an invisible head when equipping the Arch mage robes and Mask of Morokei

- Game still freezes for me whenever an enemy conjures a frost atronach

- Ragnvald. When I first entered, the skulls were already showing in place on the sarcophogus. I recovered both keys from the gaurdians, placed them in the slots, and nothing happened. I can't get the Word, so I can't get any new Word locations from Arngeir. The dialogue option doesn't even appear.

- Potential problem? With random dragons not spawning

- After the patch, a lot of new areas showed up on my map as "discovered" though I've never been to them.

- Tolfdir doesn't sell alteration spells above Novice Level regardless of players level in alteration

- Sometimes sound effects are not consistent, sometimes when I attack someone or I'm attacked, there's no sound at all or if I shoot an arrow no sound either.Does not seem to be combat related only.

- Standing stones not properly activating.

- Characters getting stuck running

- Issues with clipping in the final room of Dustman's Cairn.

- Frequent Crashes on autosaves

- Frequent Crashes shortly after using WAIT function

- Traversing through doorways spawns character a significant distance farther in than normal (For Whiterun examples, behind Belethors counter, the fireplace in the Bannered Mare, or at the alchemy lab in Arcadia. Corresponding exits ldrop you within the the stall circle of the market). There's several cliffsidedungeons where this could be an instant death fall.

- Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary - The Black Door - telling the door the password, "silence my brother" does not work. It will not let me enter

- Destruction trainers are not letting me train

- Problems buying Home in windhelm

- Ice wraith corpses getting stuck in air

- Markarth guards always try to arrest player

- Invisibility is being undone by the shadow warrior perk.

- Instant freezing 1/4 into Blackreach

- door of obilivion book respawns every time you search the skeleton on the alter at mount anthor

- can't finish the misc bounty kill giant quest says return to skald in dawnstar for the bounty however i have collected it and the option has disappeared.

- I can't absorb some dragon souls (specifically frost dragons, I've only met 1 elder dragon since the patch, which i was able to absorb), their skin remains intact and they don't turn into skeletons

- Sometime's the couriers that deliver messages are nvde

- When I sneak kill sleeping people they sometimes get stuck under the bed

- Unkillable Cicero and DB Initiates (not sure if this is a bug, but doesn't make much sense, since every other follower is killable)

- Not neccisarily a bug but Saarthal cant be entered without being in the mages guild (poses problems for people not playing mage class)

- Sometimes have to press the button multiple times to initiate conversation choices.

- I have been having an issue with my dual wield weapons disappearing from the favorites list. I would select them to be equipped, and they would just disappear from the favorites list, and I have to go back into items to reequip them.

- Followers randomly disappear and cannot be found, must reload a save where they are still present to continue

- When a follower disappears a new one cannot be recruited as the game believes that the follower is still there

- Trying to become Thane of Markarth has left me unavailable to purchase the home there. The option to purchase is in the Misc. Quests, however the Steward does not have the dialogue option to purchase

- In SOME cases the sneak perk "Light Foot" is broken. Pressure plates are still triggered even if you have the perk.

- Daggers do not receive 1h weapon bonuses from enchanted items.

- There are "holes" / "bubbles" in the pool of water at the bottom of Reachwater Rock that if you swim into cause you to fall as if you were in empty air and not water, preventing you from surfacing.

- An occasional "taken" item appears red in a container, as if stolen, but remains white in the inventory, and lacks the stolen tag altogether. If dropped, however, it says steal to pick back up, and either way it cannot be sold to a normal vendor.

- Occasionally unable to wait due to enemies being around when there are, in fact, no enemies around.

- Any time the menu is open (not just auto saves) there's a fifty-fifty chance that my system will crash

- Dragon encounters freezing game

- Favorites activation/deactivation not working. Cannot assign new favorites after patch, or un-favorite "favorited" items/spells assigned prepatch

- When fighting in the world map, if you strike a Summoned Dremora Lord as he's materializing, the load screen is thrown up, and your character is relocated about 1/3rd of the world map away, thousands of feet in midair, locked into place.

- An NPC with the name of Louis Lotrush is getting Stuck outside the whiterun stables (top half of body only visible) and is duplicating - Up to 4 Louis's in one players game

- When fleeing from a town (because you killed someone for example), even when you get out of sight and nobody is displayed on your upper bar (top screen), if you want to fast-travel or wait, you still get the message "Guards are pursuing you". I had almost run from Windhelm to Whiterun withouth getting the option to fast travel or wait even when nobody was around. This is very annoying when going for the trophy/achievement "Master Criminal".

- When buying the house in Windhelm and having completed the quests about the killer of the city, the remains, blood and other items of that quest still appear in the house, even when you bought all the decorations.

- When storing to much items in a chest/commode, when scrolling through the items it goes very slow to the point of storing an item, waiting 10 seconds and then get the option to store another. The same goes for retreiving items. It's like lag but not in the gameworld, but in a chest...

- Some people have the same dialogue as another NPC but this isn't wright. Example: Torbjorn Shatter-Shield of Windhelm says the same dialogue as Embry of Riverwood. "My favorite drinking buddy, let's get some mead" and things like that.

- When changing into a werewolf the game camera zooms in (in 3rd person view) to the point where you see your characters backside, and "some" of the right-hand side of the screen. This camera bug also remains after returning to default form. I realized this was a bug (and not just a choice by the developer) when I saw my werewolf from the proper camera distance. This only worked properly once, though.

- World creatures spawning in and then dropping to their death - at times more than once for the same creature. I understand the game spawns in NPC's when you get close to them (to avoid population lag), or enter a specific area, so this ones a creature spawn bug.

- If in 1st person and wearing Hammerfell Garb without gauntlets/bracers/gloves, the hands are disembodied.

QUEST BUGS

- Dark Brotherhood quest - kill the chef - if you murder him while he's sleeping without talking to him sometimes he will immediately glitch under the bed. making it impossible to drag his body.

- Dark Brotherhood quest - dark brother hood forever. - if you walk up to the mother while ciciro is there he will talk over top of her making it impossible to hear whats going on. Also if you have subtitles on depending how close the jester is to the coffin his subtitles will display instead of the mothers.

- Cragslane cavern. If you've cleared it before taking the skooma quest in Riften, the quest becomes impossible.

- Player cannot go to jail in markarth after completing the "No one escapes cidhna mine" quest, nor pay off your bounty forcing you to kill all of the guards

- Companions side quest - Animal Extermination quest impossible to complete if you've already killed the sabre cat

- Arniel's Endeavor - Troubles powering warped soul gems

- For the Only Cure - Kesh, he takes the 4 items over to the large pot and begins stirring, then he sits there forever and then just leaves the pot and goes about doing his regular rotation of making potions, checking the fire etc.

- No stoned unturned - says 25/24 in the quest indicator thing. Vex doesn't open up a new dialogue when you have all 24 stones.

- Blackreach turns green during the elder scrolls quest and you somehow end up floating or "flying" on water.

- Mercer frey deosnt open puzzle door in snow veil sanctum

- Completing the Jarl Korir's quest to retrieve the helm of Winterhold will prevent the Companions' quest "Purity of Revenge" from starting if the helm was found in Driftshade Ruins.

- I finished the Loud and Clear perfectly, got the key, all items from the safe, and ONLY burned 3 bee nests, yet I CANNOT access Dampened Spirits at all. I am told to talk to Maven, but she's nowhere to be found. Now, I cannot progress through the Thieves Guild missions.

- Red Eagle quest - After taking the sword, unlocking the cave and killing Red Eagle and collecting the now changed Bane sword, when I went back to the Briarheart who had the sword.. he mysteriously spawned 2 more Red Fury swords.. minor... but odd

- On the final Larceny item for the Thieves Guild, I looted both Eyes of the Falmer (left and right) off Mercer Frey, but neither triggered the task to sell it to Delvyn. When I go to him, there's no conversation option to sell it to him, and they are both regular items I can drop, sell, or store instead of one being a quest item

- College of Winterhold quest: Staff of Magnus/Enter Labyrinthian - the ghosts that are supposed to stand near the entrance never appear, therefore, I cannot get in

- Shill Job - stolen flawless ruby missing from inventory

- The Pursuit - Karlaih wont go to ragged flagon

- Number job - Cant talk to delvin because afore mentioned issue with the pursuit

- Forsworn conspiracy - when going back to meet eltry player sometime finds him dead

- Red eagle quest respawns every time i read the book

- Find Hrolfdir's shield for igmund - is no where to be found, it doesn't even exist, i looked in others forums and it appears others have this issue too. (in result i cannot buy the house in Markarth)

- Purity : Cleanse Vilkas of beastblood - he doesn't follow me to the Tomb of Ysgramar to cleanse him, so i can't complete the quest.

- Purity - now i'm not sure about this one, if is a bug or not, so i killed the Glenmoril Witch's about 2-3 weeks in (game time) and they didn't respawn since, and i needed to kill them again for completing the quest Purity, because they didn't respawn i had to look where i dropped those heads to cleanse Farkas, >_< aren't creeps suppose to spawn after a week? or something? again i'm not sure if is a bug or if is intentional.

- Dragon infusion perk gained from Esbern's potion doesn't seem to have any effect, and the quest remains uncompleted.

- In my time of need - If you side with the girl, and kill the Redguard warriors & leader, you'll later find two redguard warriors lurking just inside the entrance to Whiterun. They appear to be the ones that start the quest chain by getting refused entry to the town. They won't respond to chat, never move or leave, and the area starts to lag badly with them present. Conversely, if you choose to side with the Redguards, their leader sometimes shows up alone when you prepare the ambush. All his followers freeze up in their lair and become un-responsive. This can cause the quest to be impossible to complete

- Bounty (Dragon Slaying for Jarl of Dawnstar) - After killing the dragon and 'handing in' the quest to the Jarl, you are given the bounty of 500g but there is no 'quest complete' message, and the quest remains in your log permanently. Apparently you can then receive the quest again multiple times, causing it to 'flood' your quest list with no way to complete/remove it.

- Waking Nightmare - If you enter the ruins with a (paid for) companion, he is forced to stay outside. If you then go back outside and tell him to go home, he tells you he can be re-hired for free, and 'you know where to find me'. However, he does not return home - instead he lurks in the area fighting snowcats, and if you re-hire, you'll be charged again - even though he remembers you.

- Forbidden Legend - Inside one of the three dungeons, I think it was Folgunthur, there is a puzzle with four levers and a series of gates. I believe the combination is generated when you enter the dungeon. It is possible for a 'bad' combination to occur, ie it is impossible to have all the gates open at once and thus you cannot proceed or complete the quest. The only way to fix it is to reload a saved game from before entering the dungeon (the auto-save on entry is 'too late') and hope for the best.

- The companions quests (purity, totems of hircine) are severely glitched, they don't trigger even after you complete a massive amount of the miscellaneous quests they give you.

- The quest purity will complete itself if you accept Vilkas' first, however Farkas doesn't give out quests (mysteriously fixed itself after I went and did another mission)

- Escaped Criminal -Quest doesn't show on map, and after finding a character labeled "criminal" (In the region I'm told they're in) they immediately attack, I kill them but the journal doesn't update.

- There is a well-documented problem concerning the MAIN QUEST. Specifically, the conflict is between "Season Unending" and an unfinished Stormcloaks quest (some encounter this with "The Jagged Crown," while others encounter this with "Joining the Stormcloaks"). You need to ask Ulfric come to the peace council for "Season Unending," but he just tells you to talk to Galmar (about the Stormcloaks quest, presumably). Galmar just tells you "I can't believe you convinced Ulfric to go to the peace council" (about "Season Unending").

- Can't turn in Renanada to Urag gro-Shub at the Mages' College if you found the book before beginning the quest

- Can't complete "Laid to Rest" if you killed Movarth before finding evidence that Alva is a vampire and speaking to the Jarl

- The quest in Solitude where you have to convince the girl's mother, Greta, to go back to Temple is broken if you loot Roggvir's body when you first go to Solitude and he is executed. If you take the Amulet of Talos from him, you can still select to give it to Greta, but if won't work and it won't finish the quest or give you a reward.

- Triniity Restored - Karliah wont show up at the standing stone.

- I completed all the Jarl Rifkin quest and bought a house and when I spoke again to the Jarl she did not bestow the rank of thane on me and I didnt get my servant. Also the bumdass steward ripped me off, I bought all the decorations but he didn't do the down stairs servants quarters. I have been back many time in the hope that it may up date but no joy.

- Another possible bug is that even though I have completed all the thieves quest and appeased Nocturn, there are still unfortunate thieves being rundown and killed in Rifkin. I thought that with their Luck now restored this would have ceased to happen.

- Liberation of Skyrim: Battle of Solitude: Speaking with Galmar to begin the quest gives you the prompt to meet up with the rest of the troops; however, the quest marker stays over Galmar's head, he will no longer talk to you, and the troops never appear outside of Solitude even though the scenery changes to the siege. Solitude also closes and cannot be entered.

- Investigate the Boethian Cultist has never left my quest log, despite having done it and completing the entire Boethia quest line.

- The quest "Forsworn Conspiracy" in Markarth is totally bugged. Many people encounter problems while doing this quest. I myself can't complete it because the questgiver (Eltrys) is dead and the arrow points towards the Shrine of Talos withouth anything ever happening.

- Radiant Story problem: Cannibal on the road acts as though player completed the Namira daedric quest successfully when the quest is either failed (assuming that quest occurs in the Hall of the Dead in Markarth, I don't know. I just killed the cannibal and it said quest failed) or not even started

I can confirm that Disease Resistance isn't working...
I still caught a disease from a trap even though I have werewolf blood.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME. NO ONE HAS MENTIONED THAT THE MAIN STORY LINE IS BROKEN??? HELLO!!!!! BETHESDA ARE YOU EVEN THERE?? i SHOULD NOT have to do quests in a specific, carefully planned order to ensure they do not break the [censored] game! i went to do the main quest line and guess what? can't do the jagged crown, can't do the fallen, can't do season unending...MAIN QUEST LINE IS BROKEN. why put a game out for sale if you seriously don't even have the MAIN STORY FINISHED. oh yeah for our 60 bucks. [censored] you guys.

Elemental resistances not working,dragons going backwards sadly confirmed along with broken bookshelves and companion quests :/ frame rate and freezing issues improved at first now as they were,even restarting helps but minutes after that they show up again

A bug I hate with every fiber of my being.

Shift to walk. I dislike this option, so I try and toggle it to Shift to run. It works. I die, Quickload, and it reverts back to Shift to walk if I was running when I died. WHY?
This is after I edit the .Ini Files. Before you do this, you can't set the option permanently anyway!!

While I, myself haven't really experienced most of these issues, I can't complete the Blood On Ice quest because Viola seems to have died in my game or completely disappeared. Also, the house in Solitude has many glitches such as weapon stands not working like they do in Breezehome.

There is a well-documented problem concerning the MAIN QUEST. Specifically, the conflict is between "Season Unending" and an unfinished Stormcloaks quest (some encounter this with "The Jagged Crown," while others encounter this with "Joining the Stormcloaks"). You need to ask Ulfric come to the peace council for "Season Unending," but he just tells you to talk to Galmar (about the Stormcloaks quest, presumably). Galmar just tells you "I can't believe you convinced Ulfric to go to the peace council" (about "Season Unending").

The sneak perk "Light Foot" is broken. Pressure plates are still triggered even if you have the perk.

That's not true. I believe that may be true for those who have "The Jagged Crown" active because they can go find it and return it, but I can't move forward with either the main quest or "Joining the Stormcloaks". Even Bethesda acknowledges there is no real workaround: http://support.gamesas.com/eng/resolution.asp

To quote gamesas: If the player starts Season Unending and gets to a point where they’ve gotten one side to agree to the peace treaty, then progresses the Joining the Stormcloaks quest, it is possible to get into a state where the player is unable to progress either questline. To resolve this issue, load a save prior to completing any of the Joining the Stormcloaks quest and progress the Season Unending quest instead.

I took this off as someone had said this can be fixed by completing one quest or the other first?

I am having trouble with this "I can't get the Word, so I can't get any new Word locations from Arngeir. The dialogue option doesn't even appear."

Not only can i not learn the last word to complete "The horn of Jurgen Windcaller" But i can not complete "The Throat of the world"

When ever i talk to Arngeir, he just says, " come inside....." So not only can i not complete the main story line but i can not get the final shout. Was there not mean to be a patch to fix this problem?

The sneak perk "Light Foot" is broken. Pressure plates are still triggered even if you have the perk.

Not in all cases, that has to be a random bug. I have that perk on one of my files and I know for a fact it works, there have however been a few rogue plates that I did trigger. I can't remember specifically, but they were in quest related dungeons.

Edit:
After reading I've noticed the arrow bug isn't there. Sometimes when shooting arrows enemies will just slide out the way, they don't dodge they literally slide. This can happen when you're sneaking and they have not detected you, or when you're backing up firing for your life. It takes a lot of the fun out of archery, missing is one thing but... auto evade is kinda lame.

Bumping this thread because it's amazing and for some reason people are still using the previous one.

Please note this is the PS3 forum, PC bugs belong elsewhere (unless they're quest-related as they would still apply)

Please add flipping shadows, blocky shadows to the list. Preferably under the "major" section.

I've had Skyrim since day one and have been loving it, but the game isn't working anymore.

Ever since the last update, when I click the game from my PS3 menu, the game just goes to a black screen and won't load.
Any help or similar problems?

There are a bunch of house decorating bugs that haven't been fixed, which is a big deal for me because getting to display all my 'trophies' and unique items has always been one of my favorite things about these games!

  • Items placed on tables or shelves are scattered all over the floor when returning to your house later. There are only a few very RARE occasions where something actually stayed put.
  • Weapon plaques and racks are unclickable, I don't even see the click x to activate message so I can't use them.
  • When putting any items on a mannequin the whole portion that would be covered by that item becomes invisible instead of showing the item.
  • I filled a bookshelf with books and as soon as I left the menu to 'store' them the books didn't appear on my bookshelf, are no longer in my inventory AND I can no longer 'activate' the bookshelf even though the message is there telling me I can.

And I was sooo excited about the new ways to decorate with the shelves, racks and mannequins but now I can't decorate at ALL! :facepalm:

If you took it to the mage instead of Azura, that's intentional.


Don't know if its a bug, or just quirky logic
