The Unofficial Future of the Elder Scrolls Poll Part 2

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 10:50 am

For those unfamiliar with the first poll of which more than two hundred people voted below is a link:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1425551-unofficial-future-of-elder-scrolls-poll/

This poll takes the questions that did not get a majority vote of more than 50% and also adds some other questions. These questions are both intended to be fun and also to politely suggest ideas that a majority of people want or desire for future Elder Scrolls games. So without further ado. Please enjoy this poll as much as you enjoyed the last one.

I would love to see Black Marsh (Argonia) and the TES attributes restored. Better journal is a must, whereas no essential NPCs (just protected like in SKyrim) would be nice. Underwater content comes with Black Marsh by default. I would prefer more NPCs, but let's clarify this: I don't want all the NPCs to be more generic just to accomodate more population, I want at least as many fleshed out characters as in Skyrim, plus a big lot of generic NPCs to make the cities feel alive. I like the cities open like Balmora and I think the 8GB ram in the next consoles should be pretty reassuring in this matter.

Once again, I can't answer because some of your questions are poorly worded or are just flat-out wrong.

"Would you rather have leveled area or Morrowind style." This question makes no sense. Morrowind was leveled.

Also, why are so many of these questions "either/or?" Why can't somebody in this forum, just once, frame a question in a way that includes more than primitive this-or-that, either/or choices? How about an option to answer "I want more landmass that is detailed" or "more NPCs that are not generic?"

*sigh* I need to eat lunch, I guess. My patience is not great right now.

Hammerfell
Bug-free (at least better than Bethesda's past games...)
Better journal
More detailed NPCs/landmasses
Morrowind-style leveling
All open cities
Don't care about the character, as long as I'm not forced into the role
More handwritten quests (more interesting than boring radiant quests)

Where's High Rock? I want High Rock the most by far. It's my second favourite.

Also, in Morrowind you're the Nerevar reborn, which is much more godlike than Skyrim. The only game in the latest three where you're not godlike is Oblivion. Please correct this.

The OP is using options from the last Poll that got the most votes, and excluding the ones that didn't get as much votes.
High Rock didn't quite make it into the next round

But in morrowind your powers are not godlike. That is what the question is referring to not wether or not you were a god because all three games you are basically a god or daedric prince or dragonborn.

Also there is an other button for high rock and others etc but the four up there were the most popular choices

Black Marsh
Attributes and improved journal
More npcs and more landmass
All open cities
Unique loot handplaced like Morrowind
More handwritten quests less radiant (the radiant should be used especially for prolonging the guild activity after you become leader)
I am no Bethesda employee (yet )

Being able to shout at people is not godlike. Being a Dragonborn is much less powerful than being the Nerevarine. In my opinion anyway. I prefer the Champion of Cyrodiil because he/she's the only one who isn't special. The Champion of Cyrodiil has no special powers, abilities or heritage. You make your own fame.

Shivering Osles though you become a daedric prince. I do feel more powerful as dragonborn but less at the same time due to missed spells.

Yes, but that's by choice, not heritage or destiny. You have to buy an expansion pack. Without any expansions the Champion of Cyrodiil is a nobody.

True. But you could ignore morrowinds main quest easily as well.

Same with the Skyrim's Main Quest. My dad is level eighty on Skyrim and hasn't touched the Main Quest. You don't even have to become the Dragonborn in Skyrim. It isn't forced upon you.

I wouldn't count on that. Yes, the new platforms will be considerably more powerful. But the devs will naturally try to improve pretty much everything: textures, npc schedules and ai reactions, more interaction with objects, more complex animations, perhaps more npcs in every city.

The open cities and their bigger cells will be just one feature among many others so I don't think it's such a sure thing the cities will be (all) open. Many mid-high end computers in 2011 could have handled open cities already with Skyrim's level of detail, but there's no way to be sure the mid-high end computers of 2016 will be able to handle the open cities of 2016 (with 2016 npcs, 2016 bigger scaled cities, 2016 graphics, etc...).

All cities being open is a bit stupid.
First off, framerate drops will be all too common. Second, some cities will just seem better when walled.

I don't know. There were quite a few Dragon attacks for me that covered both the inside and outside of the city. I could Dragonrend outside of Riften, near the stables and the Dragon decided to land inside Riften. Welp. There went a wasted shout.

Graphics overtaking computing power is to blame here. Why did we lose the ability to wear shirts, pants or skirts, and robes? Because they could not be rendered with any efficiency. The number of NPCs present is also affected poorly by this. I'd rather have poorer graphics and better gaming. While the graphics look pretty and all, that is not why I play Elder Scrolls games...
