The Unofficial Healthy-Dose-of-Pessimism Thread

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:00 am

It's been suggested that what happened was a trailer-maker broke non-disclosure, got fired, got replaced, and thus the low quality: because it's stiched together between two different designers.

For those wondering how the trailer is "low-quality," I find it a bit dull myself but wouldn't call it low quality. I have however seen discussions by people who work with editing who will point out stuff I haven't even noticed and call it shoddy work. (again, sorry for not linking directly to this. Some of these discussions take place on sites I'm not allowed to link to here)

To my knowledge, Bethesda has never chosen canon when it comes to killable NPCs. AKA, we will likely never see a canon ending for New Vegas because anyone can die and 2 out of 3 factions MUST die off to a degree for the game to end. Lucien Lachance successfully recruiting you in Oblivion is never confirmed, as far as I know.

Too be fair, I wasn't entirely impressed with the Fallout 3 trailers and gameplay footage back in 2008 either. It looks very much like a clunky and dreary game which it technically was but hey it turned out to be awesome.

PLEASE FOR DOGMEAT SAKES! NO BS RADIANT STORY!

I'm also hoping that radiant stuff is lessened in Fallout 4, judging by Dragonborn, that probably is the case.

This actually brings up a way that the second of the two leaks makes me skeptical:

The second leak went so far as to claim Bethesda would attempt backwards compatability, where you could make FO4 recognize your save file from FO3 in order to make it recognize your choices within that game. I'm still very skeptical of this and this could be seen as proof the leak is a fraud, but the leak is also uncomfortably accurate in other areas. (voiced protagonist, the trailer's estimated release, the game's release etc) It also suggested the game would be released for Xbox 360 and PS3, but specifically said development on those was very young at the time it was written, so that may have been scrapped by now, seeing as how you can't pre-order for those.

No Beth game has ever done game sharing between previous games as far as I'm aware :fallout:

Would be kinda cool, but I suppose I'm skeptical cause....well wtf is there to recognize? There's not exactly much. The water purifier activated or not, the Brotherhood destroyed (for no apparent reason) or not...that's it really.

Funny thing? The same link claims the annoying kid running at you outside the Super Duper Market screaming about ants appears in FO4 grown up and working for Talon Company. Anyone's guess if this is true or not. Personally I hope not, because I don't like the other story elements this leak claimed were true.

Actually wasn't there that guy in Dragonborn? I can't remember his name, one of the Telvanni wizards from Morrowind who was killable there.

There's definitely some things I didn't like about the trailer. I don't like the idea of playing as another vault resident because we've already played that role not once, but twice. I also don't like voiced protagonists in my RPGs because I feel this limits the amount of dialogue, and it completely destroys actual role playing. What if the voice provided doesn't fit the type of character I have in mind?

I wouldn't say I'm pessimistic - there's little to be pessimistic about at this point. My feelings towards this teaser trailer are the same as my feelings towards most teaser trailers - mixed. I liked some things, didn't like others. Still, I wouldn't say I'm as excited about Fallout 4 from this teaser, as I was for New Vegas from that game's teaser.

It's a trailer, I wouldn't look at it as an official confirmation of a voiced protagonist just yet.

I personally don't like that idea at all for Fallout. No previous game has shied away from canonizing events where we have a choice, and I'd rather the series have a concrete story and lore than become a post apocalyptic Bioware game where every world is different. And we can never get proper sequels if this is the case. No way another game can be set in the west if it's not set in stone whether House, NCR, or Legion won/lost, for instance.

Yeah well this is Bethesda's Fallout. Who knows how they'll act, I'd say canonisation of good Lone Wanderer - evil Lone Wanderer having no actual motivation after-all.

Of course, I'm just expressing my less positive impressions of the trailer, and its implications.

This thread disgusts me. We get a barely five minute, if that, trailer for Fallout 4 that tells us literally nothing more than this game being in the Boston area and people start talking about how horrible this game is because of unverified 'leaks' or they're reading way too much into a promo trailer character just making a voiced three words to a dog. This board can never for once have an ounce of optimism, geez. Yes, there's concerns Fallout 4 won't live up to the hype, but to judge a game on a trailer as vague as this and to automatically hit the hate button or the constant doubting it'll be any good is just ridiculous. :/

The good Lone Wanderer has a reason, finish their dad's project and help the wasteland
Evil LW? Yea, that's a textbook case of mustache twirling, comic book grade stupid evil.

I know. Doesn't mean I have to like the idea at all. But even Bethesda were willing to canonize some things. And they allowed Obsidian to confirm a lot of stuff in New Vegas.

You're chiding people for going by leaks that so far have been 100% accurate?

Also why would you enter a thread about pessimism and be surprised that there's pessimism?

You seriously made an entire thread to bash a three minute trailer?! "Sigh"

No piss filters this time! Love the colors, I modded past games to be colorful too.

Aerial vehicles. I am pretty sure that ship flies.

Which also means open cities. Also open interiors were everywhere.

Graphically, I noticed volumetric light effects. Not simple godrays.

It has this 90s background renders look to it. I thought it was CG until I zoomed in the first photo! Very dense, insanely dense environments actually.

For healthy dose of pessimism:

Voiced protagonist, that can be restrictive in an RPG. Good thing they make adventure games now. :D I will wait and see on that one.

If you don't like it don't reply to it, simple as that. Complaining about the thread does NOTHING for the topic.

Aside from the Boston leaks, what other leaks are 100% undeniably verified?

@Mujokan- Oh, I know. I just don't like it. :/

I'm excited, as I've voiced elsewhere. But this isn't a thread for that, and being excited doesn't mean that it's not reasonable to be worried about bad things that reasonably could happen. There are lots of other aspects of the trailer that I really liked.
