the Unofficial patches on consoles

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:40 pm

pretty self explanatory

will there be any chance of the unofficial patches finding their way to the xbo and ps4?

I'm a console gamer, so I have no idea what mods will and won't be able to go to consoles

all i know is mega graphics and mega embs likely won't, but the rest is beyond me

but the patches would be nice

that's what i'd like most, honestly

Beth isn't that great at keeping up their patch game, for consoles at least (don't know how the official patches work for the PC), and it'd be nice to get more than like... 4 patch updates before they call it quits on them

always got me jealous seeing a page on the uesp or nukapedia for the arduous task of working around bugs for consoles, then seeing 'this issue is resolved in the unofficial patch' after the 30 bulletin workaround that the official patch ignored XD

please dont bludgeon me to death if it's a dumb question

if the unofficial patches arn't on consoles then it means Microsoft has pulled out of the deal and there is no mods for us, no way would anyone deprive consoles from the most necessary of mods

I hope they do, but I think it would be terribly embarrassing for Bethesda to host the unofficial patches on Bethesda.net and encourage people to download third party fixes because they're going to leave their game in a half-broken state.

Agreed, but I don't think they'll do anything about it to salvage their pride.

Also, the unofficial patches were one of the huge things that made me so adamant against paying for mods. I'm not opposed to giving money to nodders for quality work, but I am against Bethesda potentially profiting off of unofficial patches someone else had to make because they couldn't be bothered to.

I think we will see unofficial patches on Console. Skyrims Unofficial patches were mods themselves, using plugins tweaks and fixed models here and there. So they would have to actually be looking out for it and actively blocking it.

I just don't see them doing that.

This is honestly the only mod I'm interested in. The vanilla game is always more than enough for me, but I am so T-I-R-E-D of fighting stupid bugs. Outside of maybe a few cosmetic mods, bug fixes will be the only thing I download once Xbox One gets access to mods. I salivate thinking about if I had this access when I played Skyrim on 360...

Don't see why not. Even if mods for the consoles are restricted to basic esp/ESM and BSA packages, then there's no reason to suggest the Unofficial patches won't be available.

Only problem. Didn't I read that modded games would always run separately to non-modded playthroughs? Until we know exactly how mods will work on the consoles, I'd advise against getting too hopeful.

wouldn't the console consider the unofficial patch to be a mod though and make that a modded playthorugh? Since it wasn't from beth themselves? wouldn't it view the unofficial as just another mod even if it was the only thing you downloaded?

Even more than this, considering Bethesda's stance on wanting to open up mods for console gamers, any unofficial patches could actually be incorporated into an official update. This way they can save face with regards to fixes that they have not had a chance to address directly (due to sheer size of gameworld and subsequent amount of code), as well as being seen to be embracing the talent of modders whatever their focus or talent.

I don't see why it wouldn't although that also shouldn't give the excuse that Beth shouldn't Patch the game.

That's what I was thinking. I think.

Didn't they something along the lines of it would be a separate set of saves so your unmodded save wouldn't get affected? In which case, cue lots of threads and complaints about 'Having this problem from day one and the unofficial patch still hasn't fixed it'

But the Unofficial patches are constantly updated long after the games release (Skyrim ones got updates quite recently). And here's the problem. Developers are charged a fee for each patch on the consoles.

So in order to incorporate the unofficial patches they'd have to be doing a lot of patching, which would be at massive cost to them.

So they won't.

They don't do that. The only major change I can think of that I don't consider a bugfix was the Necromage situation, but it's easily reversible with another plugin. To give up on the wealth of fixes the USKP team gave us because of this one thing... Nope, no way. :)

The only other one, at least in my opinion, might be adding a voice to Mirmulnir. But that's trivial, and is easily removed. Like you, I would never give up the USKP just for these little things.

yeah i never heard anything about the unofficial patches altering things 'just because the makers didn't like it'

i mean obviously i'm just a console user so i don't have a ton to go on, but i check out the mods a good bit for fun and never saw mention of the UP doing anything but fixes and optimizations

I wonder how it will work without official support and since they'll have to create a patch for all three platforms and update the patches for all three platforms since they'll have different bugs :/

I would think that unless making a mod console compatible is automatic most mods will be PC only as modders use PC not consoles.

I am not sure who would go to great lengths to produce mods for consoles if they require a great deal more effort than making the mod just for the PC.

But I honestly do not know how any of this will pan out so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Pretty much my thought, most modders will stick to PC IMO. And honestly that's how it should be, I don't want the big modders even thinking about modding for console if it takes away from PC. They're not going to support 3 different platforms even if they're all based around PC hardware.

I don't mod but almost 20 years in IT I know enough to know that some people are thinking it's this simple process when that's far from reality.

In the end it'll be modding lite for consoles. UI,weapon textures. Quests very doubtful, don't expect the larger quest modders to be doing 3 versions especially quest mods like schoolhouse/bounties etc.

Back on topic, if there's a cert process that M$/Sony have a say in consoles are f'd...That's why personally I think it's a waste.

Wouldn't count on it, the PC is always the best platform for Bethesda games because of the sheer amount of bugs left in any game after release.

Some mods will probably also require the script extender, which is extremely unlikely to work one a console.

I'd like some unofficial patch treatment. You know what I'd like more? Gimme the damn console editor on my console Bethesda! I'll fix what irritates me on my own. Rockstar and others have been doing lite versions for years. It's not difficult. Make it happen!

you mean I shouldn't count on it making it to consoles because PCs are better? i'm lost

I get things needing the SI not being on the consoles, but that first part sounded weirdish

unless you mean the UP uses the SI?

The Skyrim Unofficial Patches change MANY things that are not really bugs just for the sake of change. They changed Farkas's armor for one just because. They changed how the game interacts with some spawns without really understanding what they were doing. They changed inventory for various merchants because they felt certain items were to rare. To top it all off the current mod developers for the Unofficial Skyrim patch are very insulting to anyone who's opinion differs from theirs. I have had their mod break my game WAYYY more often then vanilla ever thought to do. I would not touch it with a 12 foot cattle prod. YUP's on the other hand is a very good mod that I never had any trouble with.

The restoration loop for enchanting/alchemy was removed. Granted, it was considered a 'glitch', but...... in Morrowind, you could make potions right out of the gate that would do stupid things to your intelligence, which would then make your potions uber powerful.
