I just consulted Serebii, and it turns out there are two methods of "producing" a shiny. Neither of them really auto dispense a shiny, but it makes the odds a little less insurmountable. First is a method of breeding them. It didn't specify if it had to be a shiny already, but I'm guessing it doesn't have to be. The trick is to "mate" something from two different regions. Such as sinnoh and hoenn.

The next is probably better known. The poke radar can be used to form "chains" these chains can get long if you do it correctly. And after 40 encounters with the same pokemon (the chain breaks if you encounter a different pokemon, or if you fail to defeat the pokemon you meet) there becomes a huge chance of grass not shaking... but GLOWING, that is a DEFINITE sign that there is a shiny. Of course, its a shiny of the pokemon you've been chaining, so you can even tailor your chain to which pokemon you want a shiny of.

This may old news to some, but I felt like tossing it out there. Also if you use the poke radar, don't go for grass that shakes with a yellowish light. You'll be able to tell. Its basically any grass close to you. Use repels to repel the normal pokemon too. And make sure to defeat your enemies, because it ends if you just run away. Good luck!

Shiny parents don't help lay shiny eggs at all...it's completely random.

The very first time I bred the Red Gyarados in the original Gold version I got a Golden Magikarp from the egg. But I couldn't get one again after that. :(

I got a shiny poochyena (Probably my ideal shiny. Golden with baddass blue eyes.). A shiny Kricetot (raged hard).

And something else...I can't remember. I did see a shiny Salamence at the battle frontier.

Your thinking of the Matursa Method and its from breeding pokemon from two different Pal Regions like US and Japan.

I shinies I have not including ones Ive traded away
Ludocollio (Got in a trade)
Blaziken (Traded for it)
Spiritomb (Again got it in a trade)
Shaymin (Trade)
Dratini (Bred it)
Riolu (Bred it)
Pichu (Bred it)
Eevee (Bred it and still trying to figure out what to evolve it into.)
I have more but I cant remember them atm and Im too lazy to go find my DS.

I don't think Arceus has been officially distributed, so there's no such thing as "legitimate" at this time.

I think there was a Toys R Us giveaway or something. I have one from the Japanese movie event that I got in a trade.

In the very first gold, silver and crystal being shiny is dependant on Iv's. Those can be passed on by breeding meaning it's possible to breed a shiny for that generation, but it's not done like that anymore.

And I have many, inclusing:
  • Most of the starters
  • Mew
  • Dragonite
  • Bronzong
  • Skarmory
  • Scizor
  • Bunch of others

I once got a shiny Ditto through the GTS, but I figured it was probably hacked like 99% of the Pokemon on the GTS, and traded it away as soon as I found a real one (not shiny) in the Trophy Garden.

Also a shiny Krabby, but like I said, nothing is legit on the GTS. :P

Also:

Shiny Mew

The shiny mew-not sure if it's legit or it took a hell of a lot of soft-resetting. Either way I didn't get it cheap, and it was from a reputable trader on PE2K so I'm not entirely sure about it.

I am so glad I kept SmokeScreen on Quilava. That singlehandedly saved me and allowed me to defeat Jasmine's Steelix. :twirl:

What the...did I just do the gyms out of order? I got the Mineral Badge before the Storm Badge...

Got HeartGold yesterday in the mail. Haven't started playing yet, but will start 1st of April. Mainly beacuse I don't have school that day.

And about that shiny discussion earlier, I only have a shiny Gloom in my platinum that I caught myself. I do have the 2:gen starters as shiny too, but I got them from someone on GameFAQs so I doubt they're legit.
