The Unofficial Pokemon Thread #7

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 10:51 am

Oh hey, thanks for reminding me it was gifted today. ^_^

Don't know about getting many Pikachus though. 10000+ steps before you're able to encounter the ones that know Fly, 9500+ for Surf. I'll have to load it up with an advantageous type...

Hey, well I'm being a nice guy and being concerned for your health by encouraging you to run a lot ;)

I don't think it goes away after today though.
Also, yesterday I found this really cool group, I suppose you'd say, who do their own wifi events using the GTS event feature and give away some pretty cool pokemon. I got a flinchsparce, which is a dunsparce designed to annoy the crap outta people.

Yeah but you could just make your own Flinchsparce. Not like it's unique and impossible to do yourself. :P

Anyways I'll load the walker up with Chikorita (grass type lowers requirements to 7500+ steps) and pendulum cheat all day long. Not like I'm exercising today anyways. There's so much pine pollen outside that I can literally see it floating through the air. Even the most mild allergy is a death sentence today.

True :P But it's just kind of cool to see that you can actually do it. (It's done by sending .pkm files to your cart from your DNS, so in theory you could probably trigger events and stuff with it if you had the right files from pokesavs. I think they're also giving away psychic pikachus.

Now see, I wish I had bought HG or SS already because I could have worn the walker to a concert I was at during the week. Lotsa steps to be had there.

Well you have until May 5, 2010 to get the game and receive the Yellow Forest gift. :hehe:

Edit: Bulbapedia has also changed it's name to reflect it's recent performance. It is now http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page.

Edit2: I just got about 11000 steps and used up 250 watts trying to catch Pikachu. All I got were group C and group B Pokemon from the useless piece of junk radar. Not one single solitary !!! encounter, indicating group A pokemon (which are the ones that know Surf or Fly), in nearly 25 attempts.

I did get a Light Ball though, so not a total wash.

I have a surfing Raichu from Battle Revolution. It's a fun surprise because they don't really expect it. The only real problem was that it had a hardy nature, and since I made it a special sweeper, it could really do with modest or timid nature. I suppose I could have tried out mixed sweeper because Raichu's attack and special attack are even, but then I really couldn't max out EVs for both (and speed too) so the damage would be a little underwhelming.

Do the pokewalker ones have different natures?

I don't know, but I just spent over 20,000 steps and almost 1000 watts yesterday trying to get a damned surfing or flying pikachu, and I didn't even so much as get one with volt tackle. <_<

I haven't managed to get one with surf or fly, but the first one I got had volt tackle. :P

I hate voltorb flip more than I've ever hated anything in my life. It cheats. I know it cheats. I loathe it, and I can't stop playing it. :ahhh:

edit: Did the forums change again? I haven't been here in a week or so, and I'm pretty sure they either changed, or I'm crazy. Maybe both?

While looking at the bulbapedia, I found out there was a banned pokemon episode. Apparently it gave 700 Japanese kids a seizure when it was aired and therefore never aired again.

I watched the clip that caused the seizures on youtube and I've gotta say I've seen much more potentially seizure-enducing things on TV in America.

I hate it because you have to sit there and think every game you play. With slots you could just zone out and brute force you way to gains, but I tried that with flip and got 12 voltorbs in a row. I kid you not. It was like some kind of freak anti-luck. Every single game I played, the very first card I pressed was a voltorb.

So if you're not paying attention to the game, and taking like 5 minutes to decide on a row while mathematically working out the various combinations of numbers you could get, you're not getting any coins at all. :P

I also hate that trolling pause they sometimes throw in. "drumroll................was this the card you were expecting.......................BOOM". I get it, it's a voltorb, shut up and let me lose so I can start again.

I've had that happen when it turns out to be a number card. I actually kind of like it. Although I first saw it when I mis-clicked a card wanting to memo it which was annoying.

Did anyone else have trouble catching their legendary mascot pokemon (lugia/ho-oh) here? I did and it kept ended up using struggle when it was on 1 hp... It also didn't help that none of my pokemon were a higher level than it and only one pokemon I had was able to survive Hydro pump and Aeroblast (but not extrasensory...) and that was a lvl28 Lapras. Unfortunately for my brother, he now has to fight Ho-Oh with a lvl30 Meganum.
To make up for it he finally got his first true shiny pokemon which was a Spearow. I've still got to find one though (but I have had pokerus twice).

Also, about that question I asked in an earlier post, I have finally got my eevee to evolve into a Umbreon but it's probably too late for it to get any dark type moves as it is about lvl 26.

I just had Typhlosion spam SmokeScreen until it's accuracy wouldn't go any lower, then paralyzed it with Ampharos' ThunderWave. After that it was only a matter of spamming Ultra Balls until the thing was caught (after properly damaging it first of course). Don't underestimate the effect a good accuracy lowering move can have on these legendaries. Ho-Oh only managed to land maybe three attacks the entire fight.

Teach one of your Pokemon Flash (TM70) if you don't have such a move, and then try it out. ^_^

Edit: And you can still have Umbreon "relearn" any moves it may have missed before level 26 at the move re-learner. I think the cost for each move is a heart scale or something. Although it looks like the only Dark type move before then is Pursuit. It learns Faint Attack at 36 and Assurance at 43. Not exactly the most power packed Dark moves.

Whats a good dark type move to get for my Umbreon, cause now that you mention it, I have Faint Attack, Confuse Ray, Assurance and Last Resort. But Last Resort has kind of been a let down, an not too effective.

Well...I mean it can learn any Dark type move through TMs, but getting those is unreliable. Eevee actually would have learned Bite at level 29, but that's the same power as Faint Attack anyways. Crunch is probably my favorite Dark type move. 80 power, reliable, accurate. Dark Pulse is the special variation of Crunch, and has a 20% chance of causing flinching. Night Slash has a power of 70, but a high critical hit ratio.

Actually just look here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dark_%28type%29#Moves

Umbreon has amazing defenses but terrible attack and special attack. Its best bet for damage is toxic-stalling. Otherwise breed curse onto an Eevee and give Umbreon payback so it can boost its attack and with the hit in speed Payback's power will generally always be doubled not to mention the STAB.

Bit late, but I caught a shiny Ho-Oh! But that's unimportant right now because I have Kanto Badges to collect and a Pokemon Master to defeat...he humiliated me all those years ago when I was young, but I will not loose to Red again!

Yeah, but that's no fun. I decided this run through to stick through with my entire team I've been with my team since the beginning, and I believe a couple of high 40s, mid 50s can beat Red...with some heavy grinding that is. I think once I get them all to 70ish, I might be able to do something. His Snorlax might be the most difficult thing to take down for me, though.
