I battled him with a lvl 95 Breloom and all lvl 50s...god, I must have used 30 revives in that battle. I pretty much let the hail kill his Venusaur, lol.

The hail made it worse, I had no ice types with me except for a Walrein, and all he was good for was getting Charizard.

Did you have to bring in old pokemon from previous games that you levelled in say, pearl or diamond? I don't remember Breloom in G/S so I'm just wondering.

And yikes, I really want HG but, the Red fight might warrant a good deal of training for my current pokemon. Oh, and my Umbreon and Porygon are level 56 currently!

100?! It took me 40 to get all 16 badges and to beat Red.

Pfft, I'm not a power gamer. I take my time. Only have 3 badges so far and it's already nearly 9 hours.

Edit: If the friggin' game corner didn't take so long it'd be 8 hours. <_<

Breloom was the only pokemon I brang in from Pearl, and the first time I used him was the fight with Red, the rest of the battles I used the pokemon I raised in SoulSilver.

What do you do, walk everywhere? :P

I usually try to get a team full of pokemon at around the same level before tackling the next gym, that way I don't rely on one pokemon. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally the gym leader has a pokemon uncharacteristic to their type, like in Pearl, one guy had a Lucario, and he wasn't fighting or steel...

Heh, I remember that Gym Leader. A real shame too, my Torterra ended up one-shotting everything with Earthquake, including that Lucario. Infact I never met a Lucario in the game that I didn't one-shot with Earthquake, including Cynthia's.

Reminds me though. I need to get a reliable source of Earthquake goodness in HeartGold...hmm...

Was anyone else disappointed with Torterra? I felt like the first two forms were great, but then Torterra just failed. The look svcks. I mean as a pokemon his appearance has got to be the worst I've seen. Turtwig was my fave starter until it evolved fully...

Yeah. And its funny because I know a few people who hate the newest generation of pokemon and Torterra is pretty much the only one I had problems looking at. Did someone link the Anit-Sinnoh website? Man, I'm so confused if thats a serious website too.

What were you up to?

Firstly, I do walk everywhere and talk to everyone (even on replays). Secondly I am very particular about the pokemon I capture (gender, natures, abilities, etc), thirdly I train EVERYONE, constantly, even oftentimes past their final evolution and when I have no plans of using them.

The problem is I am trapped in the Ruins of Alph trying to get Unknown whose hidden powers do the right damage types :hehe:

Yeah what kind of genders do you guys prefer to capture? I remember way back when I first played Gold on GBC I was obsessed with making sure I caught all males so the little symbols matched, but these days I've become much more progressive and equal opportunity.

Except for Geodude and Slowbro. I refuse to capture a female of either of those. I mean they have "dude" and "bro" in their names, it's just wrong. :P

Also can't decide whether I want to use Paras or Butterfree for a status inflicter. Butterfree is so pretty when it flies behind you, but I've wanted a Paras for months in Platinum and never got one (they're everywhere in HeartGold).

Just beat the 8th gym leader, took me 30:21. Just over 30 hours. Not being able to evolve Vulpix is really killing me in battles. If grinding in this game wasn't so difficult, I'd go ahead and cut him from my team. It's that all the pokemon are low level/unevolved. Grinding is made 10x harder.

Team:
Farfetch'd; lvl 37
Miltank; lvl 38
Pupitar; lvl 37
Onix; lvl 38 (The one you trade for. Onix is garbage without the boosted xp.)
Feraligatr; lvl 38
Vulpix; lvl 39

Do level 50 battles level down your pokemon if they're over the limit? Because otherwise I don't think I could play.

That's fine then. Is everyone using EV trained superpowered pokemon? Because I doubt I'll stand much of a chance then, though I suppose it's worth a go.
