The Unofficial Pokemon Thread No. 8

Well I was going to try to power through it with Torterra, but I've decided I'll just train up the usual suspects. Haunter, Kadabra, Pikachu...

I tried to deviate from my "usual" choices this time around, and it's earned me failure at the Elite Four. :P

No Alakazam or Gengar? Also, Raichu is highly underrated, I have been playing around with it in a Fire Red run recently, it's been a lifesaver. Also Lapras. You can never go wrong with a Lapras.

Pikachu, not Raichu. I have a Light Ball, which DOUBLES its Attack and Special Attack both. And Alakazam and Gengar come whenever I find the time to trade them, but traditionally I've never had such luxuries in Pokemon games. My original team in the GBC versions had Kadabra and Haunter. Still, not having ANY Psychic or Ghost in my team is apparently too much of a handicap.

Edit: Just caught a Lapras yesterday though.

You can just do that GTS trading glitch to evolve them I think.

Also, does anyone with HG or SS want to use an event Celebi that triggers the ingame event? It's not even remotely legit, but if you want the event then I don't mind lending it.

While the light ball leaves Pikachu's attack stats slightly higher than Raichu as the stats *almost* double from evolving, it's only slightly, and Raichu's slightly faster and has much better defenses and is then free to use a different hold item. With that being said, Pikachu can still be fun to use. It's a little better with physical moves, because curiously, Pikachu has a better physical attack than special attack (55 versus 50) whereas Raichu's stats are even (90 of each). So that just screams volt tackle Pikachu. :P
