Sup people, we are going to start a BGSF pokemon tournament! If you are interested, just say so, and I will put your name down.
We will start to set it up once we get enough people, so there is no set time as of yet.

Tell me how you like these rules...these are just suggestions, I wouldn't mind changing a few if they are unpopular.

No Hacks
No Duplicate Pokemon
D/Cing(disconnecting) is automatic disqualification.
All battles are level 50 wifi.
These Pokemon are banned: Arceus, Darkrai, Deoxys(all forms), Dialga, Giratina(both forms), Groudon, Ho-oh, Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mew, Mewtwo, Palkia, Rayquaza, Shaymin(both forms), Wobbuffet, Wynaut.

Sure I'll train up a Haunter real quick like so you can get a Gengar from it. If you have a ditto and can breed a Totodile for me I'd appreciate it, but if not then just use any rattata or hoothoot or something.

I ran into Red twice. The first time I was just poking around Mt. Silver. TBH I didn't think it'd be that easy to get to him. It was harder to get to the Team Galactic boss at Spear Pillar or peak.... Well the first time, I saved and just checked it out. By then I had my team at around the low 70's. Needless to say, it wasn't too good. I shut it off though, since my battery was almost dead, and I wasn't at home. But I came back for round two. And I kicked ass.

My view on the fight: Strongly influenced by a web article I read, that suggested having a good team of around 77-78, I worked myself up to that point and went to confront Red. The article suggested having a pokemon with strong physical attacks. Thank the Pokegods I had decided to level a Machamp. He pulverized his Snorlax, which I will solemnly swear can make or break the fight. It has too much health to be fair, and its defense is scary high. But fighting type hits put it in its place. The rest were easy, Porygon Z with Zap cannon for Blastoise... Ice Beam for Venusaur... Walrein toyed with Charizard, lol. My Umbreon absorbed the worst of Pikachus Volt Tackle (thank god for the high Sp. D.) and Lapras was taken down by the zap cannon too.

I caught a shiny Raticate on my way to the pokemon league in my Crystal game today! Only my third shiny ever, first one was a shiny Sandshrew, second was a shiny Caterpie, both in my Leafgreen. I was a little disappointed that shiny Butterfree isn't pink like that one in the anime though.

Gold and Silver were awesome. Particularly how they screwed the city order around so you start in Vermillion and have to backtrack backwards to Viridian in the end from Cinnibar.

That confused me the first time and it confused me the second time. I'm the kind of person that has to do things in order damnit!

Also I just got the GB Sounds item. I don't know what to think about it. It's not the original music from the gameboy, but sort of remixed music in the style. Battle theme is lame too.

Still need to man up and go catch the rest of the legendaries...but I just can't decide on a team I want to commit to for 80 levels so I can beat Red. I'm already considering losing the starter (something I've never done before), but the rest is just totally unsure.

Something incredible happened to me playing Pokemon, I have to share it.

Back when I played Pokemon Crystal, I encountered and captured a male shiny Quagsire. Now, skip ahead a few years.

Today, playing Pokemon Soul Silver, I encountered, again, a shiny male Quagsire. And I am not ashamed to say I caught it with a Love Ball and squealed like a little girl when it was caught.

Just thinking of the chances of getting the same shiny pokemon (not including the Lake of Rage Red Gyarados) in both a Pokemon game and it's remake blows me away.

Edit: And both times it was completely accidental.

So what are y'all's opinion on Platinum? I haven't played any of the fourth gen, and was thinking of picking up one of the Sinnoh games along with Heart Gold. Amazon has Platinum and Diamond/Pearl all at the same price, but I don't know which version I should get.

Platinum is definitely the best of those 3, it's more refined and it's engine is smoother than Diamond/Pearl...I found battles on those games to be too slow sometimes. Plus, Origin Forme Giratina is really cool.

I have bad luck with my shinys' natures and abilities. I was however lucky on getting a Jolly red Gyarados in HeartGold.

Using a Synchronize pokemon when using the poke-radar method would be my best bet, but the red Gyarados is still my only usable shiny.
