The Unofficial World reTexture Thread

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 10:35 pm

Thanks for making this, just found some awesome textures I never knew existed.

How does one make new textures? Is Adobe Photoshop enough to make anything decent looking? Does it open TGAs and does it save DDSs?

Yeah PS opens up tga files. I have PS CS2 and it opens up tga files. for DDS files, i have nVidia plugins to open it. Look for it http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html

there are lots of tutorials out there. Here's some:
http://tommyshideout.net/files/srikandi/SkinTut/skintut.htm
http://tommyshideout.net/files/srikandi/SkinTut/skintut2.htm
This is a tutorial on reskinning or retexturing objects using Dave Humphrey's utility, NifTexture. There are several good tutorials out there which were written before reskinning utilities were available, but there seems to be a need for a tutorial which covers how the process works with a utility.

Good resource. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

It could just be that I missed it, but I didn't see Blue Dwemer Retex by VampyrPrince. It can be found http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3031.

Calvis's Stronghold retex: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5272.

Lady Rae's blue Redoran retex: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3542.

You have a couple of links that direct to http://detritus.silgrad.com/ that do not work; they are above the links to Faylynn's retex. It's a Redoran Link and its screenshots link.

Oh wups.lol i totally didn't see your edited post(updated)...but those links to http://detritus.silgrad.com/ work for me.

Is this list hosted anywhere in it's entirety? It would make it easier to see if one didn't have to search the forums everytime (though I suppose I could bookmark the thread).

The good news is people are making more textures now then ever. So Yes if you want to keep up bookmark.
Heres a link for a free program it will let you open dds textures. So you can view what's in the packs.

http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm

Now you'll be able to trade textures back and forth so you'll have your own change texture world.

Thanks! Great list.

I'm playing morrowind again, and I can't seem to remember.... which replacer has the best quality-to-fps-hit ratio?

I really don't think it matters, but http://ltm.ufrealms.net/textpacks/ are the only resource I know showing FPS.

I wanted to start playing Morrowind again since i got a computer that doesn't sound like a turbine. Before even touching it i have been adding graphic and official mods.
Anyway I will use vibrant Morrowind (couldn't find it last night, thanks!)
But i was wondering about it and/or better looking Morrowind. What does vibrant do for the ashlands? I was thinking about also using better looking morrowind because it makes it less fields of gray. But im a little worried it takes away from the feel when your strolling down beautiful fields and npcs talk about the latest ash storm. It would be nice if it only made less gray and still left some, i guess i might just do that manually. <_<

Mostly i just want to know what vibrant does to the ashlands/grayness of the landscape.

You should add Connarys bestiary creature retextures to the list.

Thanks, but I'm trying to stick to only world retextures. If I added one creature retexture, then I would have to add all the others and keep up with updates and new ones.

Thanks.

Mhhh,
don't know, so many choices....
At least, on the D/L sites like PES, for the golden oldies, one can see the popularity index from both, votes and the number of downloads vs. time since published....

But, one could argue... someone needs to make a start, somewhere, for the just released....
Meh, still learning, no front-runner, me

Cheers,
J.M.

Yes, this topic helped immesnely. I'm just coming back to Morrowind, and it was pretty convenient. I still chose my original texture replacer(Vibrant Morrowind), but my decision was educated. This thread is pin-worthy.
