Chapter 1:
Maximus Jones woke up in a disclosed room, sweating and faint. He began to survey his surroundings, as he began trying to visualize where he was. He couldn’t even remember what happened, one minute he was guarding the caravan the next he was unconscious. He began to scream in agony the throbbing in his leg worsened, he was confined in a dark empty room, suffering with agonizing pain he knew he was going to die. He limped over to the door, punching it with aggression as he began babbling like a mad man demanding he bet let go but it was to no avail.
His legs could no longer withstand the pressure he was putting on them and he collapsed to the ground. He turned his head to the door as he heard it open, a small chubby man entered the room with a vindictive smirk right across his face. The man was attired in a black suit with a red tie and wore sunglasses. He grabbed the weak Maximus and sat him in the chair as he strapped him inside of it.
“Wake up you son of a [censored], you’re essential to this operation when you realize it or not.”
Maximus glared at the man, trying to break his way out of the chair he finally complied with him, but as he began to speak he spat into the face of man. The man felt insulted and humiliated, so he stood up clenched his felt as he began to clobber Maximus into the face showing the young man that he was in fact the superior one. Maximus began to speak in a raspy voice as blood began to trickle from his nose.
“Who are you? What do you want from me? What could you possibly gain from killing me?”
The man shrugged his shoulders, he looked determined to convert Maximus into seeing the truth behind all of this.
“My name is Colonel Johnson, I’m the leader of the Mojave branch of Enclave troopers.”
Those words were like bullets to Maximus, he knew of his father’s. legacy as an Enclave commander and knew one day the Enclave would come for him. His father was branded a traitor by the Enclave and was killed for treason, this was the sole reason Maximus despised the Enclave and their outlook of the Wasteland. He wouldn’t join them, no matter what the reward. He wanted to maintain his dignity.
“You scum gunned down my father, the man that I adored, I considered my idol. He raised me he was the most influential person I ever met and you took him from me, you piece of [censored]! You’re going to pay for this, you and your army of fascists will pay for this.”
The colonel’s smug look remained as he sat back down trying to explain the reason behind the Enclave’s actions.
“Stubborn like his father you foolish, foolish boy. You can’t stop destiny, it’s in your blood to become a member of the Enclave and help put it back in government. Your father was a good man, a defiant leader, but more than any of those he was a good friend. If you think for one minute I had something to do with his death then you’re delusional. I tried to prevent it from happening, but the President wasn’t as diplomatic as I was. I implore you don’t make the same mistake your father did.”
Maximus took heed to the words, although he was disgusted by the actions of the Enclave the overwhelming thought of saving the Wasteland made him think harder about the offer.
“You could call me your President, your leader, your commander it wouldn’t matter I would never sink to the depths you and your army of fiends have. Yes I once respected what you once were, you were once a relevant faction that tried to restore stability but now all you crave for is power, you’re too greedy and that will be your downfall. I’ll never become a part of the army of bandits you’ve created.”
This enraged Colonel Johnson as he stood up once more, pondering at the thought of resorting to the last method of negotiation which was harsh.
“I didn’t want it to come to this Maximus but you haven’t been co-operative. Maybe this will sway your mind.”
The door opened once again as two soldiers wearing Advanced Power Mk.II entered the room with a tall, blond and beautiful women. She screamed for Maximus but was quickly restrained by the soldiers.
“LISA! ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?.”
Maximus shouted with haste, his eyes fixated on his wife hoping she hadn’t been hurt. The colonel grabbed a 10mm Pistol the table as he pointed it at Lisa. Maximus was now desperate, he know it was inevitable to join the Enclave to save his wife.
“Okay, I’ll.. I’ll do it. Just please don’t hurt her, let her go. I will join the Enclave.”
There was no meaning to his words and the Colonel knew this, the guards escorted Lisa away as he felt it was okay to untie Maximus. Maximus wouldn’t jeopardize his wife’s life so he didn’t attack the colonel but he was tempted.
“I know you’re not taking this seriously Maximus, and I know you despise me and the Enclave. But in time you will adapt to our way of life like your father did. We are not the bad guys, we’re always portrayed as the antagonists but we do not kill like those Legion savages, we’re civilized and we’re willing to listen to reason. I will assign you to Moreno’s patrol squad and you will be given a set of Advanced Mark II. Power Armor and your weapons which I will leave up to you.” But I advise you get a good night sleep, you’ll be bestowed the honour of meeting our leader the president tomorrow."
The colonel left the room, as Maximus began to lay back in the bed. He knew there was no turning back now, he knew that to save his life he would have to pretend to be something he was not. But in the back of his mind there was always the prospect that would begin to love the lifestyle of being in the Enclave, that he would become a renowned soldier and that he would actually believe in the hypocrisy the Enclave believe in. He saw an voice recorder on the table, and took the opportunity of picking it up, to sustain at least some form of normality he would record his opinions and beliefs regularly in case something would happen to him.
Maximus Jones – Secret Enclave Bunker, Mojave Wasteland.
Dear audio diary, this is Maximus Jones. Today I devoted my allegiance to the Enclave something I never thought I or even comprehend doing. I did this to provide for my wife, to make sure she is safe because the evil bastards that are behind this are going to pay. Yes, although I despise everything the Enclave believe in its inevitable to disregard the thought of becoming a general. I always wanted to command my own army and maybe the opportunity would arise if I stayed with them. Wait, what am I thinking? I’ve been through so much I’m actually considering become one of them, it just shows mentally [censored] up I am after today’s ordeal. I’m still frightened though, I’m frightened at the prospect of losing my wife, the women I love and everything we’ve worked so hard for. I will remain brave, I will overcome these obstacles and dispose of these vindictive idiots. I’m getting a bit tired so I better get to sleep, I’m a bit nervous about meeting the president of the Enclave, after all he’s the one responsible for all this I don’t know if I can refrain from taking him out. Well that’s about, I’ll add in another entry tomorrow. Maximus Jones out.
Maximus tucked the recorder in his pocket as he lay down, he began to think of how he was going to stop the oppression the Enclave had sustained in the Mojave Wasteland.
